Eluveitie - (Do)minion Lyrics

This song is about the only Gallic Druid whose name is known, an Aedui (Celtic tribe) named Diviciacus, who was a friend of Caesar's who supported his tribe's alliance with Rome, to his brother Dumnorix, who hated Rome with a passion and led the anti-Roman party of the Aedui. (btw all of this was BEFORE the unified Gallic revolt against Rome. That came later, and the Aedui allied themselves w/ the rest of Gaul).

I'm consistently blown away about how Eluveitie is able to make their music soaked in celtic history.

I think it is from Diviciacus' point of view. Diviciacus was the one who tried to make peace with Caesar, while Dumnorix was the one who kept pushing back against Rome. Plus he addresses Dunmorix directly towards the end.

By far one of the best songs i've ever heard.

@VoidKeeper Actually, I think it's about Diviciacus, the brother of Dumnorix, chief of the Aedui: "Brother, I shall not weep when you meet your doom", "Dumnorix, I did quite weep when I betrayed us all". Dumnorix was against allying with Rome, whereas Diviciacus was on friendly terms with Caesar, and felt an alliance was necessary: "This nation is moribund, you just can't see
We have to align with the mighty". Vercingetorix rose to power a couple years after the death of Dumnorix.

Does any one know the name of the tune or dance for the flute/hurdy gurdy bit that starts around 0:18? It has to be Breton in some way but no Idea.

This song is so powerful, it's unbelievable. I guess I'm right to assume this song is about Vercigetorix surrendering to the Romans. It really conveys the burden and feelings he must've felt in doing what he did. It's amazing. I also love the play on words, "I became the minion" with Dominion, because he surrendered to the romans he was dominated by them, in consequence the Gauls were dominated.

It's just amazing, love it.
