Elton John - Susie (Dramas) Lyrics

I got frostbitten in the winter
Ice skating on the river
With my pretty little black-eyed girl
She'd make your darn toes curl just to see her

I got a fringe front on my buggy
I got a frisky little colt in a hurry
And a pretty little black-eyed Suzie by my side

Well she sure knows how to use me
Pretty little black-eyed Suzie
Playing hooky with my heart all the time
Living with her funky family
In a derelict old alley
Down by the river where we share a little loving in the moonshine

I'm an old hayseed harp player
I'm the hit of the county fair
With my pretty little black-eyed girl
Living proof as she swirls
She's a dancer

People need to stop sleeping on this song

I think it’s the best on the album to be honest

I rode ten miles from a little country town in Illinois with my mom went to the grocery store in a bigger town. Walked to the record store with $10 of paperboy money in my pocket and bought this album. That year I recited the lyrics to Mona Lisa’s and Mad Hatters in English class and our teacher made everyone really listen. I’m a writer now.

    That's a hilarious (near ) coincidence.
This was the first ej album I ever heard. On 8-track. And I think the 3rd or 4th I bought.
Bro had the 8, I didn't have to buy.
I may have bought it with paperboy money. And I recited rocket man in 8th grade English class in 1976. I'm a amateur musician and singer, but not a writer.
Hey more thing to note. In my humble opinion, Taupin was not a fantastic lyricist although many of these lyrics I've known almost 50 years, EJ was definitely the prevailing, driving force of their combined talent.
Elton would still have been an incredible success, I believe, as demonstrated by continuing to make hits without BT. But I'm not so sure if the same could be said Taupin.
BUT it is what it is.
Sort of like a solid marriage. The love makes it work and if you take it apart and look at it, then it's all apart!
Anyway, good luck with your writing career!
    Peace out.

@Greg Goslin From what I know of Bernie, he is a brilliant lyricist. Certainly, Elton is a genius on a level with McCartney and other in terms of composing music and interpreting lyrics in song. When I listen to Tumbleweed Connection and realize Bernie took all that Americana and turned it into a thematic narrative, it is pretty cool to consider how he adopted and adapted all that. But Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (album) and Captain Fantastic (album) took it in all new directions.

I appreciate that the aspect ratio of this video actually allows the album to take the entire space on the screen. No more accidentally pausing when you think you're clicking outside the video!
