I was a kid, and loved this song. Always takes me back to this girl, and the break up-First love kind of break up. I also loved Blue Moves. I must have been a pretty screwed up kid. LOL

In my humble opinion I think the album "A Single Man" is much better then what critics said about it...

Well, Elton himself never plays anything live off the album (except maybe song for guy)
also Gary Osborne wrote all the lyrics.
I have mix feelings on the lp with big dipper, shooting star, reverie and song for guy being the exception.
Still it beats the next record he did by leaps and bounds, the infamous victim of love !!
can't listen to that lp to this day.

And the "A Single Man" tour was amazing. I will never forget it.

I have the Album "a Single man" and i Listen to it Every day. A beautifull song

I live in the States, but I KNOW I saw this on TV here -- I watched the whole show just so I could see Elton. But I can't remember under what circumstances I saw it! I had never seen M&W before and thought they were quite weird! Incidentally, there's another, VERY long version of the song on "The Thom Bell Sessions" EP that was actually recorded before" ASM".

You forgot about Amoreena, and Razor Face. And there were some decent tracks off The One (1992). Check out Runaway Train. Duet with Eric Clapton. It's pretty good.

@John Vargo technically, both are correct. Originally, it was released in 77 on A Single Man, then later with an alternate end on The Complete Thom Bell Sessions

+Tom Markel  Yes it was on the Thom Bell Session. I got the cassette. Blew me away.

The Thom Bell version was recorded first wasn't it? Always preferred the Single Man version. More reflective.

It's from Elton's, "A Single Man" album from 1978. This is one of the few times he has performed this song live.

this was after he and bernie split as a songwriting team. i think it was gary osbourne who wrote the lyrics.

This was the start of the bad times for Elton

I bought the Morecambe and Wise Christmas Specials DVD just so I could see the full performance of this! The album version doesn't do this song justice.

Thanks for this one! One of my all-time favorite songs, along with Tonight and Rocketman. I'd love to hear him do those two just like this one. I love the purity of Elton alone with his piano. This could have been the official release as far as I am concerned.
