Elton John - Philadelphia Freedom Lyrics
I used to be a rolling stone
You know if the cause was right
I'd leave to find the answer on the road
I used to be a heart beating for someone
But the times have changed
`Cause I live and breathe this Philadelphia freedom
From the day that I was born I've waved the flag
Philadelphia freedom took me knee-high to a man
Yeah gave me peace of mind my daddy never had
Oh Philadelphia freedom shine on me, I love you
Shine a light through the eyes of the ones left behind
Shine a light shine a light
Shine a light won't you shine a light
If you choose to you can live your life alone
Some people choose the city
Some others choose the good old family home
I like living easy without family ties
Till the whippoorwill of freedom zapped me
Right between the eyes

About 20 years ago got stopped for speeding while listening to this. About 3am on a Sunday morning in my V8 SD1, engine sounding wonderful on a hot balmy july morning, and this came on the radio. And foot went down! And blue lights behind me. Whoops!
All songs great from 75, especially Philadelphia freedom
When this song came out I had a terrible crush on Billy Jean King the tennis player. Elton John made song for her and her professional tennis team. One of the best songs ever.
Thought it was after a soccer team in England?
"Shine the light, shine the light, shine the light, won't you shine the light, Philidelpia freedom, don't you know I love you, yes I do!"
One of my favorite Elton songs..."Cause I'm living free this Philidelpia freedom, from the day when I was born to wave the flag!"
Philly Sound, Great Tune!
Sir Elton John👏👏👏my favorite artist💯💯💯
I grew up listening to this kind of music and I still my doses every now and again. I love it. It takes me back to good days!
I REMEMBER BEGGING MY MOTHER TO BUY ME THIS ALBUM
In 1975 I was 4 years old, my mom and dad split up, my mom moved to Houston, Tx to live with her mom, I stayed in Lake Charles with my dad, it was a confusing time for me then, one weekend I went to stay with my mom, I vaguely remember a few details of that weekend with her. One memory stands out loud and clear tho, on our way back to bring me home, we're flyin down I-10(or so it feels like it), the windows down, my long hair flyin around like medusa in the hot humid balmy Louisiana weather, the radio cranked up, and then I hear it, Phi- la- delphia Freedom, and I was hooked, I've loved Sir Elton John ever since I was 4 years old, I love all of his music, it awakens a deep happiness in me that I don't even care to try to figure out, I just go with it. Thank you Sir Elton John for a lifetime of awesome tunes
As a philly native this song is fantastic hype song for celebration of wins of our Phillies eagles sixers and the flyers PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM!!!
THIS HAS TO BE AT THE TOP OF MY 1970s PLAY LIST THE 70S HAD SO MANY GREAT KICK ASS SONG THIS IS ONE THAT KICKS SO HARD WELL PUT IT THIS WAY A 99 YARD FIELD GOAL WOULD WIN THE SUPER BOWL
The bass part is so good
And I love America
Thanks for American soldiers keep Freedom alive
Love this song.....
Ha! "Captain Fantastic"! I didn't know Elton had this as an album title. That's cool. So just like all the other hip young Londoners back in 1967/68, young Reg must have been a fan of "kids" comedy show "Do Not Adjust Your Set". It had a recurring segment about a mac-wearing superhero named "Captain Fantastic" that became its own show after DNAYS was cancelled (and Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam went on to join John Cleese and Graham Chapman to create Monty Python).
That bassline is liquid.
Just saw his final ever show in Philadelphia! God bless this man
Powerful.
I saw you in the pot shot, I saw you as cute, I am 63. Does that disappoint you? I Love you.

Exile On Main Street ?
Abbey Road ?
Physical Graffiti ?
Impossible to decide
When I was a teen this song came out. I thought the skies had opened and here comes jesus. During it's run at the top of the charts I became head grocery bagger at the Kroger I worked at, because I fast-bag-jammed when the song came on the store speakers.
This is Elton John doing what he was great at.
I love this song and it is great 2019

the musicianship in this one song is a very good example of how creative everyone in a band can be, playing one tune together
uma das músicas mais bonitas de elton

Honestly, even after all these years I've never been able to figure out how Elton John got knighted by the Queen of England after this song became public.
His best in my opinion yet grossly underrated

Leo Poveda Not One! Peace my friend.
I love that Elton made this song! It shows that America is a very special place! Notice Elton lives here.
Awesome 🙂
I look at a DEEPER meaning in this song. Philadelphia, where the longest lasting Constitution was born. FREEDOM! ALL colors, ALL sexes, ALL religions, ALL people, ALL beliefs, ALL cultures, ALL inclusive, ALL ideas. Elton John is a "soundboard" sent from peoples "God's". He is a true DIAMOND!
As a straight male I can say I love this song and all gays
And when this song came out, nobody cared who was gay or straight. We just liked good music.
PHILLY ROCKS👍🏈☺
