This a masterpice. It reminds my childhood, my teenage and my hole life. A classical song to reflect in where's I was wrong and right. By the way, I'm 55 and listenig him since 1972. It only could be Elton John.

America 2 of my favorite Elton john songs written by Bernie taupin are ticking and home again.

I think the best of have times in our lives when we wish we could take that preverbrial path back home again - where life was simple and full of wonder. There are times when I'd give anything to feel those floor boards under my feet and to be given the chance to view the world from the perspective of that young man beginning his journey in that small town from Eastern Ontario Canada. This one is one of my favorites from Elton in a long time.

As a writer, and a poet, I have to say that the beautiful imagery of the video goes along with the lyrics...and it is so beautiful...but it also has special meaning for me, b/c I interpret what he says about going home again about coming home to yourself in many ways, and I believe in many ways he is talking about himself too. This song to this day still gives me such hard feelings and reactions. I lost my "home" a long time ago and have felt a void ever since. Nothing i can return to just memories, its a really tough thing to deal with and i just hope one day to have that "home" i can return to.

If it wasn't for Bernie taupin Elton john would be playing in nite clubs doing other people's songs. Just listen to come back baby and that should end the discussion. About who is who and what is what. Elton john has to wait for Bernie taupin to send him lyrics not the other way around.

When I heard the diving board I didn't think it was a very good album they haven't put out a good album since the one. It just seems like Bernie will write a fantastic song or two on the album and then fill in the rest with anything to complete an album

Elton john must wait for Bernie taupin to give him songs to record. Elton john can say whatever he wants. he needs Bernie taupin to give him lyrics to record and that will never change. Because Elton john can't write song lyrics but he does have the talent to take his lyrics and put the music with the lyrics and make beautiful songs

Isn't it sad but true? The older we get the more we want to go back to that small town. We've seen the world and found it wanting. But maybe part of it is that as times change what we were looking for comes to the places we came from because others from these were looking for it too. And also they're looking to avoid the things that we decided we wanted to avoid, after the bright lights of the world got obnoxious and it's change went so far that it threatened to obliterate us.

Beautiful song, lyrics and video. Video shot in my beautiful country, Iceland. The boy is also Icelandic, very talented kid on many levels, I actually used to know him personally. I can get emotional when listening to this song and watching the video since I live abroad now and sometimes miss my country and family.

During the recording of The Diving Board album. Elton wrote 6 songs in just 2 days. On average it takes him 10-20 mins to write a song. He just writes as he plays the piano.

Michael Langley just remember if Bernie writes the lyrics then Elton john has the songs to work on. If Bernie taupin doesn't give him any songs to work on then Elton john just sits at home waiting for Bernie taupin to send him the lyrics for the songs.

Bernie's lyrics have been excellent but Elton would have been a big star anyway; his extraordinary talent would still have been expressed.

I'm interested in an Elton John song I heard only once but I know it was him, I don't know the name of the song, but it had the word "Gay" in it.   I know Sir Elton John is gay so a lot of his songs might reflect that, but if you know the song I am talking about, where it definitely has the word "Gay" in the lyrics, I really would appreciate it.


I want to hear the song again.

@Michael Labine , don't know any off hand because Bernie Taupin writes the words to Elton songs and he is not gay but a few songs by Elton john do have gay themes like the last song, american triangle, and the ballad of the boy in red shoes and possibly Elton's song ...all great songs..

It could be the song street kids it says I'm in the east end gang ... But I always thought it said but I'm east and gay

+Michael Labine Totally out gives good suggestions on Elton songs with a gay theme; "Elton's Song" is one of them (lyrics written by Tom Robinson if memory serves), but despite knowing Elton's catalogue very well, I can't think of one with the word gay in it, at the moment :( You can ask at the  Crazy Water forum (an Elton fan site) online

@Phil Williams He doesn't hide his faults but has helped save countless lives, set up centres for rape victims in Africa, supported various disadvantaged groups, spoken out against wars, bigotry and imperialism, he's generous, has been supportive of many young musicians, has befriended suffering children, has lots of good friends. Read his book Love is the Cure. Morrissey wanted Elton's head bringing on a platter but when he met him thought he was lovely. Elton is a mix of good and bad like us all.

I've been an Elton fan since 1972 and I must say this is one of his best ever.

If one can compose a song like One More Arrow in bad times. Good gracious ....Nothing better. 

I have every Elton John record from Empty Sky to The Diving Board. The Diving Board is not his worst record, but close. It's dreadfully boring and somewhat depressing. There are no hidden gems such as All Quiet on the Western Front, One More Arrow, And The House Fell Down, The Fox (entire record is underrated), Sartorial Eloquence, Answer in the Sky, Dark Diamond, Amneris' Letter (performed by Shania Twain), Cold, Runaway Train, Amazes Me, Hoop of Fire (yes from Leather Jackets), and Shoot Down The Moon.
These are just a VERY few of the beautiful songs that made so many of his records great. I left out the 1970's for brevity.
I love Elton John's music but I hope on his next record he teams up again with the producer of Songs from The West Coast or Made in England.       

It was well thought of by critics, and is also liked by most Elton fans. Fans who are not so keen seem to include a high proportion of people who like his 80s and 90s pop, generally regarded as inferior to his early-mid 70s work. This album may suit fans of his early albums before he became a megastar; it's musically fine, several tracks are growers and not intended to be commercial pop. I'm far from alone in rating it much more highly than The Fox, which was in one of his weaker periods i.m.o. Home Again is much preferable to Dark Diamond, Answer in the Sky, Hoop of Fire, Cold..

He has just recorded his next album with his band, and T Bone Burnett producing. It's apparently much more of a rocker, and Davey Johnstone the guitarist has been raving and saying it's amazed the record company. We shall see.

T Bone Burnett is obviously one of the best producers/song writers in the industry but I wish Elton had chosen someone else. 
I think we both agree a new record is always exciting and I will be in line on the first day it's released. 

I agree, I have just about every release also, but just didn't have much interest in the diving board

Funny how opinions differ. I thought The Diving Board was Elton's best album for 30 years; proper musicians, proper backing singers and a top producer certainly raised the bar IMO.

@Don't knock the rock I thought it was excellent too, as 4 of his last 5 albums have been (Peachtree Road weaker than Songs from the West Coast, Captain and the Kid, the Union, The Diving Board).
