Elton John - Did He Shoot Her? Lyrics
Sling your hook in with him baby
He's a real sharp-shooter now
If he's out there hiding in the tall grass
Tell him I said he was a coward
It's the twentieth century now
But if he thinks he's some kind of tough cowboy
And he's hurt her then I want to know how
Did he shoot her with his compromise
Like a heart attack he can paralyse
Or did he hang her in a noose
On the telephone line
Did he shoot her with a 45
Oh did he shoot that girl
That used to be mine
Tell him I'm ready any time he chooses
The pay-off for the things, for the things he's done
He ain't messing with no two-bit bandit
Armed with a couple of guns
If he wants to see it as a two reel movie
He's living in the head of someone else
But better take him down and dust him honey
I want to hear the truth for myself
Did he shoot her
Did he shoot her

Elton John Did He Shoot Her? Comments
This song and the Breaking Hearts LP were made available to the public 35 years ago. It is 4 August, 2019, and this song comes to mind in the aftermath of the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton.
Is that a picture of Ricardo Montauban that comes in during the first chorus?
Ha, ha - the pictures are of Elton & Bernie (the songwriters)
I wasn’t sure,
EJ and BT´s music is simply beyond magic!
Such a great, upbeat album! "Breaking Hearts" and "Too Low for Zero" were back-to-back masterpieces. Some of Elton's best songs were never released as singles, such as this gem "Did He Shoot Her"? and "Princess" from the Jump Up album. Also, "Teacher, I Need You" from "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player." Thank you, Elton and Bernie for writing such a beautiful soundtrack to my life!
'Princess' was released as a single.
Quite a good album actually. Well it was in the spring of 1984 I first had the fortune to see and hear Elton live, in Copenhagen and this year 2015 it´s Elton time for me again at Tivoli, Copenhagen in July!! My hmm..fifth Elton concert. :-)
Wonderful! 84 must have been a great show! Actually I have some recordings from that show.... And I will also see Elton in July, in Stockholm!
Well, I saw Elton in May 1984 in Bröndbyhallen in the southwest of Copenhagen. He sang well but he was stoned, unfortunately. Then I didn´t know but now I know of course about his then drug addiction. It was really awful, he often threw his piano stool backwards and dear Nigel Olson had to look out. But I have loved Elton and his music since early 70´s. Actually you accidentally filmed me last time I saw Elton live, in Malmö Arena the 10th of December 2010 and it was a wonderful concert. The last three songs I was able to come close to the stage and I heard and saw Elton sing "Candle in the wind" and two more songs close up front and to the Arena. It was simply marvellous and therefore I have always thought that I can´t see Elton live no more, because of the wonderful experience in Malmö Arena 2010. But this year, with a live concert in Tivoli, an open-air concert in the middle of Copenhagen. I just can´t resist. :-) Funny enough, two days later I will see Lady Gaga & Tony Bennet at the same place. Goody -goody! :-)
