I dont know why this song makes me sad. If suicide was a song for me it would be this one.

For some reason, this particular song makes me extremely sad. I usually skip it. But not today. Idk. Strange thing. I guess 'cause I never had this kind of thing when I was a kid. I wanted it so badly. I'm just looking for reasons to wallow in self-pity and isolation. It's not that bad.

I don't know why but this song reminds me the beginning of Nirvana's song "all apologies"

Except Thirteen was written in 1971 or earlier (The original was recorded by Big Star in late 1971. It was reportedly written before Alex Chilton joined the band). Hey Hey, My My wasnt written until 1977. So either Young was influenced by Big Star or it is purely coincidental. I believe it is the latter.
