Elliott Smith - Satellite Lyrics
While the hands are pointing up midnight
You're a question mark coming after people you watched collide
You can ask what you want to the satellite
Cos the names you drop put ice in my veins
And for all you know, you're the only one who finds it strange
The satellite
Cos it acts just like lovers do
The satellite
A burned-out world you know
Staying up all night
The satellite

Elliott Smith Satellite Comments
I don't listen to this song as much as his others - now I remember why.
Things just makes sense when I listen to this masterpiece
This song is very beautiful and emotionally provocative like many of his songs. It does not matter that I cant understand his lyrics; the melody and his voice pierce my heart.
consigo perceber aqui idéias melódicas parecidas com ''Clair de Lune'' do Debussy, ambas muito evocativas, é uma belíssima aproximação sonora, como sempre.
I used to like to shoot up and listen to this. Very relaxing. Goes with the mood
Thanks for your input Kelly..elly..ly..y..
i feel suicidal when i listen to this because it makes me so sad.
As a 29 year old who's never been in a relationship, I can honestly say that this is the only song I've ever heard that perfectly captures those feelings.
I view this has related to a psychedelic experience but I could be totally of the mark.
I wish I could call you right now
While the hands are pointing up midnight
You're a question mark coming
After people you watched collide
You can ask what you want to the satellite
‘Cause the names you drop put ice in my veins
And for all you know you're the only one who finds it strange
When they call it a lover's moon
The satellite
‘Cause it acts just like lovers do
The satellite
A burned out world you know
Staying up all night

Re: everyone's pontificating about the song meaning. He spells it out at the end. It's about a love that comes and goes; an on-and-off relationship. "They call it a lover's moon/cause it acts just like lovers do".
Waxes and wanes
God, what a strange, beautiful mood this song has. It is something dreamy, and darkly lovely, like nighttime itself.
he looked so depressed and soft at the same time damn each time i listen to his songs i wish i could have hug him and just said thank you..
How do you write something as beautiful and mesmerizing as this? I literally have no idea.
subterreanhighrise lots of pain and talent.
Might be my favorite
I can feel this song down to my bones.
Eric Lindgren this song hits your fucking left lung
thank god music exists in my life...idk if I'd have made it this far without it
Victor Melloni Music is our only saving grace as a species. I can live with the fact that we have caused and are perpetuating one of this planet’s largest extinction events, just as long as music is still beautiful.
this song can either be a metaphor for a failed relationship or a failing relationship.
failed relationship where they broke up and the one whose heart is broken is up all night thinking about a life with that person that no longer exists
or one where they're still in the relationship but its cold and loveless
it's a cool song though because it doesn't really tell a story.. it's just a metaphor, the only story in it is that someone asked someone else why they call it a lovers moon and elliott gives them an answer, albeit a sad one
This is the one that makes me cry when I need some crying. I don't even have to listen, I just have to remember it.
The emotion is immense. It makes me tear up not only cuz it takes me there, but that's what Elliott experienced all the time.
this is one of my favorite songs to listen to by myself in the dark
the most peaceful song I know
Brings to mind some of Nirvana's unplugged stuff (in a very good way).
