As a songwriter I’m continually blown away by him every time I go back to these songs. Seriously who comes up with that chord progression? What key is this in? Is it d major or d minor? God dammit he was great! RIP Elliott Smith.

I photographed Elliott for Option mag upon the release of this album. What a beautiful man... he was so kind and, after breaking through his shyness, incredibly funny. God, I loved his smile.

He must have been a unique individual. A genius, I would say.

Still have yet to find someone who matches the nuances in his music. While his song structure resembles that of the Beatles (and perhaps Nirvana too), it is without question that his knowledge of musical theory adds almost a jazzy touch to his work. This music has helped me so much in the last year of my life. I owe you one, Elliott. Thank you for inspiring me.

Love the Beatles influence on his songs but he is able to make it his own and so original. A true genius, to say the least. Just like the ones you mentioned and ahead of his time and gone before it too.
