Elliott Smith - I Don't Think I'm Ever Gonna Figure It Out Lyrics
I can wait
I can wait
I can sit wondering what in world you think about
I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out
After all the alcohol
I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out
It's like some wild last frontier
You never know what kind of fight's gonna appear
That once begun can't be won
Started out losing already and go all ten rounds
I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out
I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out
The tired hits that fall below
I can wait
I can wait
I can sit wondering what in the world you think about
I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out
I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out
I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out

these comments are so old, a handfull of the people who posted them could be death by now.
CAN'T CONNECT-- YEAH, YEAH, I KNOW
Miss you Elliot.
I don't I'm ever gonna figure out this song's guitar fingerpicking.
It's really tough to nail his pattern because he loosely alternates between a precise pattern and sweeping flicks that are like a hybrid pick/strum with his fingertips.
I haven't figured out...but I am not holding my breath....
I don't think a song has better encapsulated my feelings about dating.
The best of all time.
After all the alcohol, the pretty words have devolved down to slurs and drunken shouts.... I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out....
fuck. it's too good!
i've listened to this song countless times, it's healing!
please turn off the advertising; I know it happens automatically, but that's not what this is for.
A tantalizing individual. Gnar on the chords.
Absolute brilliance.
What a lovely little song. Lovin' it!
I can see why Mim likes this song
"Perhaps there is nothing to figure out after all" -Thomas Merton
An Elliott Smith song I HAVEN'T heard?!
Always a great feeling ;)
There's a song by him I've looking for for years called "a song about you" and I can't find it anywhere.
This guy was a RIDICULOUS guitar player. I would consider myself to be decent....but damn Elliott truly had his own unique style. I never stop being floored by his brillance...
yeah let's make this playing sound REAL EASY and natural while I sing my heart out... pfffftttt
WTH..? PERFECT
Ridiculous is not the right word.
You forgot to put the Word gifted or good after ridiculous-ly but yeah i get your point, i d give a lot to play like that
you are "decent " until someone loves you for your music!
Seriously. People don’t even realize how complex and difficult his songs are until you try and them and go. Ohhh shit maybe I can’t play it. And that’s not even with singing it. Lol
I sing this song to my computer screen everyday.
+Daniel Teer haha
Lol theres a song in the suggestions by him called "I Figured You Out"
+Brody Z Akira Q LOL Yeah I always get those two songs confused.
+Brody Z Akira There's also Figure 8.
they follow each other on his remastered release of Either/Or.. always makes me chuckle
check out my cover
Take that fucking advertisement off of this video right now. What the fuck is wrong with you?
perfection the reasons life keeps me getting up after I fall down

Who put that fucking advertisement on this. You piece of shit, go fuck yourself. Great song though.
I'm _definitely_ never gonna figure it out
What's that weird scraping noise occurring in this song? Sounds like it was ripped from vinyl maybe? Every version of this one heard has it.
@Nate- Dogg no. listen closely.
Oh do you mean the kind of "ghost wind" in the background. That's probably a vinyl setup.
@Nate- Dogg
yes! i was thinking that too, the only version i have ever heard has that weird noise.
hey it's a reel to reel recorder scraping in the background, i have one too and it makes the same noise.
alright, mystery solved, thanks! thought i had a bum recording all these years.
love the guitar tracks...blah
Very much like "Somebody That I Used to Know." Sounds like an extremely early version of it.
Happy Birthday Elliott!!!!!
u thought? whatdyou mean
The chord structure is not that complicated... the speedy little riffs are another story. Very hard to play with fluidity.
wow omg forrealz huh
I'll never figure it out, and I guess that's ok
the intro's picking style is similar. there's also a similar solo in it (elliott rarely did solos). so that's probably why.
hey Hey HEY - watch the mouth. Don't make me turn this car around. ;-)
One of my favorite songs by Smith, and its a b side.
I know it from Georgia Rule ;)
I love when he balances bounciness of music and heaviness of lyrics. It makes me feel bad for tapping my foot.
Hey fuck lil wayne. Fuck him and his stupid fucking face.
reminds me so much of 'somebody that i used to know'
Oh, Miss Mary Lou must be missin' him today..
some shitty eagles pop song, huh (look it up)
sounds like the fucking eagles man ..haha..hardcore fan reference right there.
He was the last dj that said what he wants to say and plays what he wants to play, hey hey hey.
Happy Birthday Elliott. We're still here.
He was the last human being.
me neither, mr.smith
i'm not trying to do comparisons or anything, but it's quite obvious Elliott Smith was a major influence for Conor Oberst. i was a bit young for Elliott's music so i'm just starting to really get into his stuff, but i can definitely tell he was very influential for Conor.
Douchebag ruining a metaphor.
That used to be a meeningfull comment, dont ruin it :p
mention of records nice
Im moving out freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Dear Elliott, we all miss you. You will never be forgotten. Your music is always with me.
I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out....
@mrbungs Stupid me, I don't use Itunes very often. You can buy the song itself for 99 cents!
Oh cool, hey guys if you don't have this song in particular, which I didn't have in my collection, check itunes. They have this ep for 3 bucks. Why not? This song's worth more than 3 bucks.
Rest in peace Elliott! Thanks for being there for me!
elliott's music is soul food. He would not boss anyone into his spiritual position, that wasn't his way. He was trying to lead us to an understanding of spirit by signposting his journey with music. He could have been a bit more explicit about this IMO.
@corett1109
énis!!
@Affinitia Well, he figured you out too, so he's probably doing ok
He might have figured it out had he not cut his life so short. He knew himself better than anyone else though. It's his honesty that really gets to me. Elliott is the largest inspiration to my music, try to write new songs every day and upload as many as I can to my channel.
@AnnaTunnels Nobody cares, bro. Take your sob story somewhere else.
soo amazing on the movie georgia rule:D this song reminds me of 2008. good times good times.
sounds like simon and garfunkle
