Ella Fitzgerald - Why Can't You Behave? Lyrics
Why can't you behave?
Oh, why can't you behave?
After all the things you told me,
And the promises that you gave,
Oh, why can't you behave?
Why can't you be good?
And do just as you should?
Won't you turn that new leaf over,
So your baby can be your slave?
Oh, why can't you behave?
There's a farm I know near my old home town,
Where we two can go and try settling down.
There I'll care for you forever,
'Cause you're all in the world I crave.
There's a farm I know near my old home town,
Where we two can go and try settling down.
There I'll care for you forever,
'Cause you're all in the world I crave.
But why can't you, oh why can't you,
Oh why can't you behave?

Ella Fitzgerald Why Can't You Behave? Comments
To all men in " committed" relationship's who can't keep it in their pant's.
Fuck you...it's not ALL men. Women stray too . Incredibly sexist comment to be honest.
Delicious. Incomparable. Ella & Cole Porter spell's heaven for music-lovers. Marylin Monroes favorite singer.
Do please identify the composers of these great songs, by this greatest singer of all.

Best version out there, slow and smooth...Ella is perfection.
There's only one ELLA. She can hold a note beautifully. And long.
if there is a more sublime and beautiful song in the world, I don't know what it could be.
This version is so beautiful, I love the calm and slow jazzy twist. Very well done
What a discovery for me!! First heard it in "Morse's car (BBC) eighties)
Just watched that episode on Apple TV. Gorgeous song - I had never heard it before either!
Watching that episode of Morse on YouTube tonight brought me here!
je naam Me too! Love Ella, love Morse! ❤️❤️
Yep! It was called "Driven to Distraction". This song was played again and again throughout the film inside a certain individual's car. That he loved this song was a bizarre secret that only the audience knew. And you know what, that episode and all the entire series 4 episodes of Morse is about to become 30 years old next January!
C I I have the "Essential Ella" CD, this song is not on it, so I’m wondering if that’s why it came as such a happy surprise to so many of us.
I've listened to several versions of this catchy song, this is too drawn out and slow -- it's the least appealing version I've heard.
@Mick Kennedy I must agree with you , there are really good versions of this song! don't be shy to share a link ;)
+Mick Kennedy It may very well be slow, but the tempo allows Riddle to insert the most luxurious harmonies through the elegant string section. This rendition is one of the most exquisite of Ella's works, in my opinion.
Wait until you're cheated on, this is the right speed then I assure you. It has a mournful tone, rather than a playful one from the show.
A thing's appeal is quite inextricably contingent upon one's perception, thus... I must thank you for your opinion, Mick.
The intro is a bit gooey, I agree. I think I'll look for a livelier version.
