Ella Fitzgerald - Stars Fell On Alabama Lyrics

We lived our little drama
We kissed in a field of white
And stars fell on Alabama
Last night

I can't forget the glamour
Your eyes held a tender light
While (And) stars fell on Alabama (fractured 'Bama)
Last night

I never planned in my imagination
A situation - so heavenly
A fairy land where no one else could enter
And in the center - just you and me

My heart beat (just) like a hammer
(My) Arms wound around you tight
And (While) stars fell on Alabama
Last night

  21. k.... ....

This is a gorgeous version, but did Ella's voice ever overpower Louis. I have to say it though, I think Daniela Andrade and Hanbyul Kang did a much more harmonious version of it. But that Ella, what a powerful woman.

  22. B.... S....

    PAPER TOWNS 💕

Assim que vi a música no livro “Cidades de papel” coloquei para tocar enquanto lia a parte em que eles dançam no SeaWorld, e PTQP casou perfeitamente

  25. M.... ....

Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong should be in the dictionaries as synonyms with "genius".

I'm 17 and I discovered this song 2 years ago and I'm the only one in my age that knows this song. It breaks my heart that this beautiful song is underrated.

  29. M.... M....

First time i heard this late version. I was totally surprised because of their class. Louis is not so perfect with his tp and the voice is almost broken, the voice of Ella is not the usual silk.... but the deepness they reach in this take is simply unbelivable. My favourite!

  30. K.... B....

    this exists???!!!

perfect late AM....and perfect to try and learn.

This might be the best album ever recorded by human beings.

  41. T.... ....

The funny thing is, I am the only person my age that I know that loves this music. It's sad.... this genre was filled with little love songs and very enriching stories, how it pains me to see such a good style be forgotten with my generation, the true mellineals....

    T.... ....

Spy Chicken Have faith friend :) I’m young and I LOVE this music! I play it and share it with my friends! This genre will never be forgotten :)

    T.... ....

    G.... D....

You won't get trolled because this is the best ever version of this song.

  44. G.... D....

I'm here because I read "I still dream about you" by Fannie Flagg.

  45. A.... W....

I had this on a 78 disc and it was my favourite. On my first visit home from University in 1970, my sisters had made it into a flower pot holder by melting it over a flower pot with boiling water and a spoon!

    J.... T....

Honestly, I believe you should sing it yourself if you believe that is so. You obviously need to be informed on the time period this music was made. Jazz possesses specialties only some can appreciate.

    -------------

    From Wickepedia:
"Stars Fell on Alabama" is the title of a 1934 jazz standard composed by Frank Perkins with lyrics by Mitchell Parish. ... The title appears to have been borrowed from the title of the 1934 book of the same name by Carl Carmer [NY: Farrar & Rinehart, 1934].  It refers to a spectacular occurrence of the Leonid meteor shower
that had been observed in Alabama in November of 1833, "the night the stars fell." As reported by the Florence Gazette: "[There were] thousands of luminous bodies shooting across the firmament in every direction. There was little wind and not a trace of clouds, and the meteors succeeded each other in quick succession."

(I have just read this intelligently and sensitively-written book & recommend it to anyone with a psychoanthropological interest in the circa 1920's American deep South.)
Incidentally, I came across a comment to another vid of this same recording in
which the commenter recalled another "better" version of Ella singing solo.  Why better?  "I love Satchmo just as much as the next jazz fan," he loyally delares,
"but he's just all wrong for this duet."  Why, exactly, one wonders?  Listen and
learn: "The velvety quality of the song itself and Ella's smoothness conflicts and is drowned out by Louis' legendary raspiness."  *sigh*  Where to begin.

I absolutely adore Louis Armstrong....always and forever - haven't ever heard anything that I wouldn't say - "Bravo" and "more, please...." Thank you for sharing.
