Ella Fitzgerald - Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me Lyrics

Do nothing till you hear from me
Pay no attention to what's said
Why one should tear the seam of anyone's dream
Is over my head

Do nothing till you hear from me
At least consider our romance
If you should take the word of others you've heard
I haven't a chance

True, I've been seen with someone new
But does that mean that I'm untrue?
While we're apart, the words in my heart
Reveal how I feel about you

Some kiss may cloud my memory
And other arms may hold a thrill
But please do nothing till you hear it from me
And you never will!

  1. M.... J....

    Some-one told some-one and some-one told you
But they wouldn't hurt you, not much,
    Since ev'ryone spread the story
With his own little personal touch.
Do nothin' till you hear from me
Pay no attention to what's said
Why people tear the seam of anyone's dream is over my head.
Do nothin' till you hear from me
    At least consider our romance

i remember first hearing this at some public jazz performance in Reno, Nevada (July 20-something, 2012). It has taken me 7 years to finally find the song, and it's worth searching for it. And to the lady i heard this from in 2012, thank you! Thank you for introducing me to this song!

Whoever added the reverb needs a throat-punch. If ever there was a singer that needed NO reverb or any other added effects it's Ella Fitzgerald.

  11. J.... B....

I think Stefan Grapelli on violin.

    J.... B....

    Sure sounds like it.

  12. D.... M....

    My favorite singer

  13. T.... M....

This is gorgeous. The original great Ellington 1940 band version of this, Concerto for Cootie, is well worth a listen. The lyrics were added a wee bit later, and the mood changed.

  14. g.... ....

Love Ella's version of this song! Of course, I love Ella's version of EVERY song. She could take any song and, with that elegant voice and perfect phrasing, make it sound as though she was the only one who'd ever sung it. This sounds like one side of a conversation. It's perfect!

  15. E.... S....

    Aww perfect

  16. R.... W....

This is music with perfect words, great arrangement and solo's along with the best female voice ever.

  17. f.... ....

My jaw is on the floor. This is absolute perfection.

  18. K.... K....

Interesting that she takes this in a romantic, sincere tone, and a very slow but sumptuous tempo.

Of course, she "sells" it but the words can also be taken in a mischievous way. They imply that the singer is cheating but not going to admit it.

    K.... K....

    That's a good observation

  19. J.... R....

After hearing Ms Ella's arrangement of this song, I get the true meaning of the melody. This one is by far one of her greatest songs.

  20. S.... T....

Total perfection in every syllable. The queen!

  21. T.... A....

    who's on guitar?

    T.... A....

    The Accolades Music Barney Kessel

  22. A.... M....

    Simplemente elegante.

  23. 4.... ....

    Beautiful Ben Webster solo.

  29. R.... S....

My absolute favorite Ella song. The perfect one.

    R.... S....

    +Richard Stokes.
How on earth are you capable of differentiating?

    R.... S....

I know! There are so many. I think this one perhaps because when I hear it I get a little teary eyed, and that's not always a bad thing.

  30. T.... C....

My Favorite Version of an incredibly beautiful Song....Webster is insanely good here, too...

  31. B.... K....

    An unbelievably beautiful voice ...

  32. B.... K....

I think that the marvelous violin solo was performed by Mr. Stuff Smith, a jazz violin master! Is that correct?  Thoughts, please.

    B.... K....

    +Bob King Yes, Stuff Smith.

    B.... K....

Just re-playing today....great song and arrangement.

  33. T.... ....

    Fabulous, great instrumentals.

  34. R.... ....

Etta James version in Ellas tribute is also AMAZING!!

  35. R.... S....

Thank you for letting me know. The sax is superb.

  36. j.... ....

Its from the Duke Ellington Songbook. Duke on piano, Ben Webster on tenor.

    j.... ....

Duke isn't on piano. Paul Smith.

  37. e.... ....

Great to hear this Ella song in high quality, wonderful!

  38. R.... S....
