Electric Light Orchestra - Showdown Lyrics

She cried to the southern wind
About a love that was sure to end
Every dream in her heart was gone
Headin' for a Showdown

Bad dreamer, what's your name
Looks like we're ridin' on the same train
Looks as though there'll be more pain
There's gonna be a Showdown

And it's rainin' all over the world
It's raining all over the world
Tonight, the longest night

She came to me like a friend
She blew in on a southern wind
Now my heart is turned to stone again
There's gonna be a Showdown

Save me, oh save me
It's unreal, the suffering
There's gonna be a Showdown

And it's rainin' all over the world
It's raining all over the world
Tonight, the longest night

Takes me back to the 70s. Cruise main Street hanging out on the street with everybody else MUSCLE CARS EVERYWHERE. I MISS IT.

  9. Joel Anthony

Yes, ACDC, PFloyd, STYX, etc were at their height when I graduated high school in 81'. And yes, ELO was rolling as well. I never liked them and had a friend who played them all the time. But now at 56, I appreciate the sheer talent and gift this group had. I can't stand todays copycat, rap or same sounding music.

It's a shame that remembrances of a great song is a movie scene. It is to be expected for most people may not be 50 or older when the song actually came out.

  46. Grizzie.heine

    um som maravilhoso!

  47. Jon Farmen

One of the best songs ever, and a favorite of mine since the late 90's.

I know it's not a very complicated guitar solo, but it fits so well, and its one of mye all time favorite solos. (A good solo doesn't always need to so damn fast/technical and complicated)

Jeff Lynne is a true genius and a master of great tunes.

    Steven Connell

A solo doesn't have to be complex to induce a feeling. It's better that it fits the composition.

  48. Simple Jack Jr

I don’t care about John Lennon liking this song. Kingpin is a good movieand all but ELO is one of the best to do it

  49. Cliff Herren

I just thankful for YouTube that we all can listen to any song, any decade we want to, all in 1 place.

  50. Solar Flare [Who likes uploading SSBU replays]

    Slowdown anyone? (Console Wars)

  51. David Lee

At around 2:44 I can imagine some movie scene where the star of the show is out in the desert, maybe driving, but still sweating all the same. But they're driving, with nowhere in sight, slowly thirsting to death, maybe starting to see things, and they're desperate to find water or shelter. This part of the song just sounds like a desperate moment type of song. Anyone else think the same? Also this could be my favorite song by these guys.

  52. Ryan Daniel

Buying a Chevy because of the Ford AD

  53. sandy casey

  54. Ezekiel Deitrick

Jeff Lynne is a great song artist

  55. Cliff Herren

In my opinion one of the best songs ELO did. Part of a great decade of 70's music.

On this day in 1976 {September 17th} Electric Light Orchestra performed "Showdown" on the NBC-TV late-night musical variety program, 'The Midnight Special'...
At the time "Showdown" was at position #98 on Billboard's Top 100 chart and was also in it's seventh and final week on the chart, three weeks earlier it had peaked at #59 {for 1 week}...
Three years earlier on November 25th, 1973 "Showdown" entered the Top 100 for the first time, it peaked at #53 and stayed on the chart for eleven weeks...
Between 1973 and 1986 the British group had twenty-six records on the Top 100 chart; seven made the Top 10 with their biggest hit being "Don't Bring Me Down", it peaked at #4 {for 2 weeks} on September 2nd, 1979...
One of their seven Top 10 records was a duet with Olivia Newton-John, "Xanadu", it peaked at #8 {for 2 weeks} on October 5th, 1980...
Band co-founder Jeff Lynne will celebrate his 72nd birthday in three months on December 30th, 2019...

    Kenny Murphy

Have you considered the possibility that "Telephone Line" was a bigger hit than "Don't Bring Me Down" since it spent more weeks in the top 40?

  90. Music Lover

From 1972 to 1986 Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other groups in the world. 50 years later they still play in sold out Arenas and Stadiums. I just saw them in Toronto July 18 2019 ( Best Concert of my life) All the reviews agree they are the best live act in the world and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius. They are in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Song Writer award ( ASCAP ) 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Long live Jeff Lynne’s ELO!

  91. Roland Deschain

How did MF DOOM or Subrock never use this beat! It's a shame! Jeff is a world class songwriter and singer! I mean, he and Roy Orbison are the best range singers bare none. No disrespect to Marty Robins.

  92. Im Jerkish

Fauni and cuz i already knew this song.

Recently we have had some problems with getting my PC fixed it cost £950 and it could end with a legal battle so I can just see my family me and a lawyer walking into a court in slow motion to this song XD

  95. TheMaster974

Hi everyone, hope you enjoyed the song. This is a cookie-cutter comment that will be posted on all ELO videos on this channel. I recently received a copyright strike for 3 of the ELO videos on this channel, resulting in those videos being deleted. I fear the same thing may happen to other similar videos on this channel, which may result in the channel's deletion. Therefore, this video may get deleted either due to a copyright claim or by myself to prevent another copyright strike from affecting the channel. Obviously I don't want this to happen, so your thoughts about what to do will be helpful. Linked video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YLtYSOrH9o
