Electric Light Orchestra - Mr. Kingdom Lyrics

Daylight comes to those who live
But those who die they never see the sun come
Shining through their window pane they pass away.
Silly girl to be a fool, you didn't play the golden rule,
'Cos once you're through with one world,
There's another waiting there.

[CHORUS]
Help me such a lonely soul,
In dreams to leave behind the world.
Mr. Kingdom help me please, to find the rainbow's end.

Looking from this empty room,
The corridors of endless gloom go crawling through the night,
To meet the dawn that's on its way.
Oh to sleep, per-chance to dream,
To live again those joyous scenes,
The laughter and the follies that are locked inside my head.

[CHORUS]
Help me such a lonely soul,
In dreams to leave behind the world.
Mr. Kingdom help me please, to find the rainbow's end.

I can dream of flying high,
above the city's cares and never be afraid of anyone
'Cos there ain't no one there.

[CHORUS]
Help me such a lonely soul,
In dreams to leave behind the world.
Mr. Kingdom help me please, to find the rainbow's end.

Help me such a lonely soul,
In dreams to leave behind the world.
Mr. Kingdom help me please, to find the rainbow's end.

Better than the Beatles but obviously like Paul, John and Jeff have said in interviews there is an inspiration. Paul and John said they wished they would have sounded as good as ELO. They added ELO "Son of the Beatles" have done great things the Beatles never did. ELO has become one of the best and most versatile live Band in the world.

b-side of "Turn To Stone". pretty good track.

  9. S.... ....

Why do ELO sound to much Like the Beatles far to many times. This is obviously a reworking of “Across The Universe”.

    S.... ....

Shspurs1 the Beatles are their main inspiration and I’m pretty sure Jeff Lynne is trying to sound like Paul McCartney

    S.... ....

How to be rainbow operators That could be one of the reason why Mr Wood did a Runner.

    S.... ....

Music Lover Actually i heard that the band. That Paul McCartney was most jealous of was Pink Floyd. When they were making Sgt Peppers Lonely Hart Club Band. Pink Floyd were in the very next room making there debut album. Paul McCartney used have dreams that he was a member of Pink Floyd.

  14. c.... f....

Love this melancholy song. It's sad yet that amazing ending crescendo always lifts my spirits.

  15. J.... T....

ths single Turn to Stone / Mister Kingdom showed perfectly how the style of the ELOmusic changed those days. Neither one is bettter or worse but different

  16. J.... T....

I learnt to know this song as a B- side of the single Turn to Stone.Later I got to know the whole Eldorado album

  17. R.... S....

This album is a complete concerto. So glad that Jeff Lynn is still with us. I will buy anything that he has a hand in. His integrity is spotless. His mind is pure genius. To create an album like this, in any time period, is a true gift to the world.

    R.... S....

Wow Roger! Very well said! Long live Jeff Lynne's ELO saw them in concert last Thursday in Toronto...Best Live Band In The World!

  20. l.... m....

This song is taken on by the strings section.....A recognition to it......

  21. l.... m....

The " El Dorado" album is way better than all the other ELO's albums.....And this is much to say....

  22. O.... ....

ELO is like the cult classic of music.

  23. R.... B....

Return to Oz with me.... El Dorado- beyond brilliant. Sublime.

  24. B.... S....

  28. S.... ....

10 people whose musical tastes totally suck.

  29. M.... D....

It's amazing how they had already developed their all-time sound from their 1st album and just kept adding layers of new sounds from every album on.. and on.. Jeff Lynne is the non- familial cousin of John Lennon

  30. D.... P....

Pure masterclass. This man is a genius . ELO and Jeff Lynne loved his music from day 1

    D.... P....

Loved ELO Since the mid 70s 👍😊

  32. I.... ....

The Beatles really ran deep and influenced a great deal of Jeff's work around this period. This is another of those classic ELO tracks that most, including myself, found on the b-sides of singles released in the late 70s - this one I think was the b-side of 'Turn To Stone' single released in the Autumn of 1977.

  33. J.... T....

the B- side of the single Turn to Stoneit is nice to compare these songs. B side was more art side, A- side commercial ELObut not the worst in that  group

  34. t.... l....

God damn...That intro is sooo.. Lennon. The mood from The White Album. Love Elo since the '70.

  35. b.... s....

Maybe the most underrated band, and one of their best. I believe it was cut short here, but a joy to hear! Astute comment by Ziggy Stardust. Good call! Completely different, yet the same!!!

  36. A.... B....

    get it on big speakers.!

    A.... B....

& boy, I had 12" woofers, when I started working in 1981. In the store & Blondies Rapture, making the huge speakers pump back & forth ( something young men like to do) sold the powerful shit to me & I went out & bought every ELO Mr Kingdom was one of the songs I shook the concrete floor with.

  37. M.... T....

my dad brought me here was listening to these song when I was very young.

    M.... T....

    Then, he's a cool cat.

  38. w.... ....

what I love about this song is the main chorus. it sounds like something Bowie would do

  39. T.... U....

Mr Kingdom flying Across The Universe.

  40. R.... R....

    sheer brilliance.

  41. M.... M....

man that ending its mid-blowing and when you hear the next track in the album is connected i love it !

    M.... M....

The passage is clearly inspired by Jeremy Clarks Trumpet Voluntary & is an interesting part. Like a cross between Baroque & the heavier classical with big orchestras of the mid 19th century onwards & long after Baroque. Sweet have a couple of tracks (Anthem number 1 & 2) based on this piece.
Funny, I like them all better as I prefer heavier ( for the time) Baroque fanfares ( Chapentier Te Deum or Jean Jo's Rondeau . Then ELP comes along & does one from the 40s, for Christ sake ( & boy, it was good, like the original).
Anyone wanting Chaps Te Deum, do yourself a favour (says Molly) & listen to a fast version. Must be Bev Beven on those Timpanies?

Then ELO progresses from interesting, low budget experiments to Eldorado? Wood, if only you stayed with em?

  42. T.... T....

Thank you Madlib to get me to this masterpiece

  43. m.... b....

nothing like the Beatles elo are top the Beatles are and was shit

    m.... b....

ELO proudly bragged that they carried on The Beatles sound only more electrical!

    m.... b....

You are so wrong....ELO proudly bragged that they carried on The Beatles sound only a little more electrical!

    m.... b....

You realize Jeff Lynne got tons of inspiration from the Beatles, right?

  44. F.... ....

This song was written for me.
    EDIT: this album*

  45. B.... R....

I fell in LOVE with ELO almost 40yrs ago, after my Sister Lori bought this album! She played it over and over along with the other big groups of the mid to late,70's. Since that time, I've had the album, three cassettes and two CD's! I've just about worn my second CD out! Eldorado has ALWAYS been my FAVORITE!!! Especially now as my Sister is no longer with me!😥 it brings back WONDERFUL MEMORIES of our teenage year's laying across her bed talking about all kind of things while ELO played on the turntable!

  46. .... ....

    Высший класс!

  47. N.... R....

I remember when this 1st came out in 74! I wasnt a big ELO fan till I heard this LP! Ive been a fan ever since!

  48. T.... ....

    Hyptmotyzing!

  49. Z.... S....

sounds like a mix of the beatle's Across the universe and I am the walrus

    Z.... S....

This great ELO song reminded my sister and I of the Monkees' "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" on the chorus.

    Z.... S....

throatgorge2: "Nilsen"? His name was Harry Nilsson.

    Z.... S....

I've always seen similarities between this, the Beatle's Dear Prudence, and Led Zeppelin's Ten Years Gone.

    Z.... S....

It sounds like Mister Kingdom of ELO.....

    Z.... S....

luis marcelo inostroza bidart best comparison so far...

  50. l.... ....

    vinnie paz madlib!

  51. g.... w....

    This album is a masterpiece

    g.... w....

    I agree.

    g.... w....

    completely agree.

    g.... w....

    A sadly underrated one.

    g.... w....

Sadly it is often overlooked and it is quite good

  52. S.... O....

    Very "Across The Universe" inspired.....

    S.... O....

I think eldorado was released first 🤪

  53. S.... M....

    Masterpiece!

    G.... R....

    Gordon Ritchie just right.

  55. b.... ....

should have been a double kick on verses.. but still awesome

  56. d.... ....

    Mister Kingdom is still awesome!

  57. C.... ....

This was the song that made me an ELO fan. I had bought the "Sweet Talking Woman" single and flipped it over and played "Mr. Kingdom" and from then on, I was a fan. Thanks, Jeff Lynne!

    C.... ....

That's funny because my 1st ELO single was Shine a Little Love with Jungle on the flip side, which made me discover MY favorite ELO album Out Of The Blue!

  58. M.... ....

Their BEST album. Always loved 'Mister Kingdom' 'Nobody's Child', 'Illusions in G Major'. 'Eldorado' is a tour-de-force of blending Classical Music and Rock! Thanks for making 1974 such a memorable year!

  59. M.... K....

    Look at my username.

    M.... K....

    Must be your favourite song

Mozart, Schubert, Verdi, Chopin, Jeff Lynne....................................

    L.... M....

    Jeff Lynne..........................................

    L.... M....

....and Wagner, Tchaikovsky and Roger Waters!

  61. B.... K....

This is one of my all-time fav old school ELO tracks. Eldorado I would say is my favorite ELO album. For some reason, the main motif going into the chorus is so spiritually enriching. And then the climax in the end with the high cello strings really hits my heart where just like the lyric 'I can dream of flying high'. And the 'laughter and the follies that are all inside my head', that is me lol.  Beautiful, magical piece. It's hard to beat the first 4 ELO albums any day of the week.

    B.... K....

    beautifully said

    B.... K....

Spiritually enriching... Ain't it just 😊👍

  62. A.... S....

So very beautiful. Jeff Lynne and the guys at their finest. : )

    A.... S....

+Al Scarbrough That's right Al. This is my favorite song of theirs.

  63. F.... ....

I was always annoyed by this song's similarity to Across the Universe. I could never understand if that was intentional or not.

    F.... ....

But as John Lennon said ( 1973) ELO were doing things they ( Beatles) never did. Musical progress = hearing loss
& Classical music progressed too, till orchestras became huge

  64. R.... D....

Do the songs on this album run together or is it just me?

  65. H.... T....

That is exactly what i said, i like across the universe a little better though

  66. J.... C....

Great, another copy of this song, that has the end cut off before its over. Thanks

    J.... C....

Joan C. Then buy the album.

  67. N.... h....

That fleetingly serendipitous moment at 3:00 with the violins-does anybody know songs with a similar melody?

  68. J.... ....

"I can dream of flying high above the citys cares and never afraid of anyone cos there ain't no one there." My favorite line of the song cos I feel that way sometimes, plus its just so cool.

"Help me such a lonely soul in dreams to leave behind the world. Mister Kingdom help me please to find the rainbows end." Also great lines, this hole song is great Jeff Lynne really is a genius I wish we had more song writers like Jeff.

    J.... ....

u left out the word "be" redux

  69. D.... S....

Eldorado is a magical album. I really can't think of anything that comes close to it. Even though the strings sound very "orchestral", here (as opposed to earlier albums), I love the way they're used...so lush at times, and other times there to punctuate a phrase.

    D.... S....

The earlier albums were low budget, but very interesting, no orchestras or choirs hired Just Hue, Kaminski & Wilfred sawing hard on their strings & overdubbing till the cows come home & very early, Bill Hunt hammering the piano & horns (Move & ELO). The in between pieces on Eldorado are a tribute to Clarks trumpet Voluntary & Sweet have a couple of tracks ( Anthem 1 & 2) that are clearly inspired by Clarks piece from centuries ago. I'm atheist because God didn't give us renewable hearing.

  70. K.... ....

    Grandaddy's "Levitz"!

  71. M.... A....

Masterpiece...nothing more to say than that. !

  72. H.... T....

This is my favorite song of theirs. It's a masterpiece. Should be in a movie.

  73. l.... ....

I have quarelled with a good old friend of mine being young in the 70ies, I always thought BJH was better than ELO :-) Where are the times, just 25% understanding what they were singing :-))

  74. p.... ....

The imagination that went into music of that period leaves today's Simon Cowell brigade eating dust. Just look at the album cover for instance, its awesome.

  75. h.... ....

More than an hommage to "Across The Universe" though like the Bowie version of said song it has equal power touching on the Magical Mystery Tour era of The Beatles..My favourite ELO album..Cohesively brilliant

  76. b.... ....

@anddaz Yes indeed, sure sounds like it.

  77. b.... ....

    @shogunblade You lucky sod!!!

  78. S.... F....

excelente cancion muy al estilo de lennon en plastic ono band

  79. A.... K....

@RaggedTiger70 but not cut off too badly. Just enough to know it all again.

  80. A.... K....

Oh how I love this and ELO..thanks for so much!

  81. A.... ....

The greatest ELO song in my opinion. It is just beautiful every time I listen to it. And special. ELO have many great songs and this is one of the best.

This is soooo much better and deeper than anything the beatles have done!

  82. L.... H....

The first time I heard this, I know it would always be special in my life.

  83. w.... ....

Jeff Lynne has so much talent, it is just astonishing. This is the point where ELO had enough experience to really showcase how original they were. Hypnotic....

  84. t.... ....

    eldorado, my favourite elo album

  85. A.... D....

    singing in John Lennon style?

  86. s.... ....

    1:34 to 2:07 -- sublime

  87. P.... W....

    A true , Total , Classic Masterpiece.

  88. M.... ....

Nope, it just continues into the next song on the album.

Listen to "Nobody's Child" right after this and they will fit together!

  89. T.... ....

    AWESOME Love It!

  90. s.... ....

You are a hero... You put one of my favorite songs from the Eldorado album on here, and on my Birthday, no less. Awesome.
