Electric Light Orchestra - Getting To The Point Lyrics

And there's nothing I can do now
Out of control (out of control)
Swimming softly through the blue now
And look beyond these walls
As the meaning starts to dawn
It's getting to the point
Getting to the point.

It's out of control (nothing I can do)
Like a fire that keeps on burning
And nobody knows (what I'm going through)
And the thoughts just keep returning
And all you had to say
Was that you were gonna stay
It's getting to the point
Getting to the point.

[CHORUS:]
It's getting to the point
Where nobody can stop it now
It's getting to the point
Of no return
And all that I can do
Is stand and watch it now
Watch it burn, burn, burn
It's getting to the point
Where reasons are forgotten
It's getting to the point
Where no one knows
And all that I can do
Is say I'm sorry
But that's the way it goes...

Getting to the point.

Forever
Is a long, long way
Forever
Takes your breath away
I'd like to talk about it, try to understand
It's getting to the point
Getting to the point.

[REPEAT CHORUS]

It's getting to the point (getting to the point)
Getting to the point (getting to the point)
It's getting to the point (getting to the point)
Getting to the point.

Electric Light Orchestra Getting To The Point Comments
  1. Oh Bugger

Its weird, i only got this last week on cassette. I had heard that it was the worst elo album hence why it took me so long to hear it, but listening through the album i see that isn't really an insult, being the worst elo album is like being the worst beatle, you're still a bloody beatle!

  2. Paul Outdoors

Forever takes your breath away... I'd liked to talk about it, try to understand...

  3. Stephen Welford

My dad had this album, beautiful album, passed down to me.

    Hermosa melodia para mi vida

  5. kornelk2007

Definitely one of their best songs ever

  6. TheMarrification

If there was ever a song that so accurately describes what years of depression feels like (for me at least), this is it.

  7. Timo Kuusisto

    "It's it's it's it's..."

  8. Moises Monroy

So much Gilmoure era in this song, it could be in The Division Bell withot any problem

  10. William León

Getting to the poing ,great master piece , l love forever e.l.o!!!

  11. Wochenend-Kid

This is easily in my top 10 Elo songs even though there are so many amazing ones!
The sax solo and the outro vocals are what really stand out to me in this song!! Everything is so well placed in ELO songs, both vocally and instrumentally.

  12. Steven Botcher

Forgotten how good this album was...

  13. premier4 6

A beautiful song, with heart felt lyrics. The album stayed under the radar of many fans, but this song is right up there with the best Jeff Lynne ever wrote. Between 1.06 - 1.15 the song is so so sad, enough to bring tears every time I hear it. And that sax solo near the end is fantastic (and I'm not even a sax fan). The whole thing is a wonderful piece of music.

  14. Marcos Adriano Chicatto

    *Great song... 10/10*

  15. Анатолий Кузьмин

Самые лучшие воспоминания связаны с ними Electric Light Orchestra

  16. amatteroffact1

  17. Jolie 841

My beloved song. But always i cry with her.

  18. João Mauricio

    Awsome!

  19. ILOVE musikk

I am just now discovering this album. I have  a strange nostalgia when I hear music from 1986 and I find a lot of my favorites in that year and to find ELO has this album from 86~ Electric Light Orchestra~BALANCE OF POWER! I just keep finding gold!

    Lone Wanderer

To me it's one of their finest albums :) Every song is perfect on this album

  20. Susan Brown

If I'm not mistaken, this song is about the breakup of ELO...even the album cover shows the split...such a difficult time and yet Jeff Lynne was still able to create songs that years later are as meaningful as they were when I first heard them. Jeff Lynne is a genius and in my opinion, he has not received the recognition he deserves.

    Hans Raage

Susan Brown His participation in Travelling Wilburys is more worth than the Nobel Price! But your'e right! Overall underrated as hell!

    Kat Fontaine

Oh man, all I can think about when I hear this song is the ELO split....my 17 year old stepdaughter Stella heard this song and said, Omg, Bev!!!,when I played it for her last weekend, she insists,it is about him and Jeff's(ELO) split 🙁 And my husband is a graphic artist and he says, Kudos because I totally missed that split reference in the picture!!🖒🖒🖒🎧🎧🎧🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶

Just behind Queen (the group) to be the best group.

  24. FX2 Mark VIII

I always hear Roy Orbison at 3:30.

    Sarah Kinsey

I hear it too during some songs where Jeff goes for those big notes Roy was famous for. I like to think Jeff wears sunglasses to be like his idol.

  25. Henry Stanley

    Such an underrated album.

  26. Deborah P

    Steffan Pila

This song "Getting To The Point" reminds me of the song "Strange Magic" because of the melodic structure in this song.

  27. Natalia Ivanovna

My dream is to meet Jeff Lynn before I die.

    Theresa Ruble

    My dream as well  <3

    Julie Underwood

    you and me both :)

Same. I fell in love with him when I found The Traveling Wilburys, and even more since I saw him love this past July. I am seriously considering writing him a letter.
