Electric Light Orchestra - Eldorado Overture Lyrics

The dreamer, the unwoken fool
In dreams, no pain will kiss the brow
The love of ages fills the head
The days that linger there in prey of emptiness
Of burned out dreams
The minutes calling through the years
The universal dreamer rises up above his earthly burden
Journey to the dead of night
High on a hill in Eldorado

I listened to this song many years ago while driving my 1948 Dodge truck on a stormy day and when the overture ends and the lyrics begin the sky opened and there were sun rays, it was a magical and unforgettable moment. It is a masterpiece of music thanks for posting

  9. Music Lover

From 1972 to 1986 Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other groups in the world. 50 years later they still play in sold out Arenas and Stadiums. I just saw them in Toronto July 18 2019 ( Best Concert of my life) All the reviews agree they are the best live act in the world and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius. They are in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Song Writer award ( ASCAP ) 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Long live Jeff Lynne’s ELO!

It’s difficult to say any ELO is any better/worse than any other ELO album .My favorite is still New World Record but every album was just like waiting for the next Beatles album -amazing -no one has really done this since -certainly not nowadays.

  12. Chris avilla

Mom and Dad played this, got me started on the right foot ❤️ my kids love it 😊

  13. Music Lover

Best concept album ever! Long Live Jeff Lynne's ELO the best on this planet!

  14. Matthew S. O'Brian

This was their best album. Way before the commercialization of their brand when they were musicians not pop artists. Man this is good!!!!!!!!!

The dreamer. The un-woken fool. In dreams, no pain will kiss the brow.
The love of ages fills the head. The days that linger there in prey of emptiness.
Of burned-out dreams. The minutes, calling through the years.
The universal dreamer rises, up above his Earthly burden.
Journey to the dead of night. High on a hill, in Eldorado. Eldorado.
Eldorado. Eldorado. ‘Dorado. ‘Dorado. ‘Dorado. ‘Dorado. ‘Dorado.
‘Dorado. ‘Dorado. ‘Dorado. ‘Dorado. ‘Dorado. ‘Dorado. ‘Dorado.

Midnight. On the water. I saw the ocean's daughter.
Walking on a wave, she came. Staring, as she called my name.

And, I can't get it out of my head. No, I can't get it out of my head.
Now, my whole world is gone for dead. 'Cause I can't get it out of my head.

Break down, on the shore line. Can't move. It's an ebb tide.
Morning, don't get here ‘til night. Searching for her silver light.

And, I can't get it out of my head. No, I can't get it out of my head.
Now, my whole world is gone for dead. 'Cause I can't get it out of my head, no how.

Bank job, in the city. Robin Hood, and William Tell, and Ivanhoe, and Lancelot.
They don't envy me. Yeah. Sitting 'til the sun goes down.
In dreams, the world keeps going 'round and 'round.

And, I can't get it out of my head. No, I can't get it out of my head.
Now, my whole world is gone for dead. 'Cause I can't get it out of my head.

Oh, no. Oh, I can't get it out of my head. No, I can't get it out of my head.
Now, my whole world is gone for dead. 'Cause I can't get it out of my head.
    No how, no how.

    Come to America Jeff Lynne...........................

    Richard Smith

20 dates in the USA starting in June 2019.

    Kenny Murphy

@Richard Smith Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those 20 dates include Amy and Rosie Langley.

  18. Norty Moo

It's no coincidence that from 1974 this album, and then Face the Music, A New World Record, Out of the Blue and Discovery that Jeff Lynne worked with Louis Clark and produced so many hits. Brilliant collaboration (and Tandy of course).

  21. Sound the Shofar Ministries

The dreamer the un-woken fool..... I grew will ELO in the 70’s, pure class

  22. Michael Fitzgerald

I bought this album as soon as it came out in '74. I was just crazy for this particular track off the album. It was good, but this really hit me. I do miss the 70's. We had some great music but by the same token all we had were vinyl, cassettes, and 8 track--nothing like the way we can listen to almost any music we want online. Guess you can't have it all.

  23. Max Perdue

Someone has to get ELO to play in NYC during New Year’s Eve. That would be nice

  24. Karolina Ka

  36. Patrick Stafford

With my girlfriend,Lucy, driving my old Meteor 63 in the streets of Montreal,no money in pocket, but so happy with the most beautiful girl in the City..and Eldorado playing in loop in Car all and all.

  37. Peter Kroll

The Overture and the transition to the first song are epic.

I would not mind if Mr. Lynne re-recorded it, skipped the speaking part but extended the orchestral part from 1:22. Generally it's astonishing how well the album has held up against the time. I think his voice is still pretty good, he could do it.

  38. Edwin Vaske

    Magnificent!

  39. Harold Mackie

I heard a touch of jealously from Sir Paul McCartney when asked about Jef Lynne and ELO

  50. Gary Johnston

I remember seeing them as a second act (warm up band) for Deep Purple at Long Beach Arena, ca. 1973. I had heard the album, but seeing them live, blew me away!
Along with everyone else there! They lit the place on fire! We were still chanting ELO! ELO! ELO! as they set up for DP.We were all so drained after ELO, that when DP came on, a lot of us walked out.Have loved Electric Light Orchestra ever since, even after the strings section departed!

  84. Jeff Lynne's ELO 2020 Tour

Jeff Lynne's ELO was the best band in the 1970's No doubt. They invented real classical Rock...Way ahead of their time...

  85. Jeff Lynne's ELO 2020 Tour

Jeff Lynne is the best and most talented Producer, Composer, Singer and Pop-Rock Musician Ever. He plays all the instruments and has recorded his latest album Alone In The Universe all by himself in his Home Studio In California.

    Kenny Murphy

Does he have more than one home studio? Because I watched the documentary Mr. Blue Sky at least three times, and I'm pretty sure his home studio in that was in England with London visible at the horizon.

  86. Lawrence Davis

absolute favorite Jeff Lynne song and ELO album. I was 14 when I first heard it. 40 years later still get chills.

Probably ELO's Signature Album…..Jeff Lynne's first collaborating with Louis Clark.

    Kenny Murphy

Pardon my ignorance, but who is Louis Clark?
