Electric Light Orchestra - Boy Blue Lyrics
Hey Boy Blue, can't you hear all the noise, it's for you.
All the town's waiting there, let us go.
There's a show like you ain't seen before.
Weclome home, where you been all these years, look around.
All the crowd is in tears,
[CHORUS:]
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
I've seen bold knights, dropping down like flies,
I've seen God, point the finger of doom to our foes.
I have fought in the holiest wars,
I have smashed, some of the holiest jaws.
I've been jailed, been impaled, and been dragged through the world.
One thing, I have learned through these years,
Is that no man, should be stricken with fear.
It should be that he walks with no care in the world.
So my friends, who are gathered today,
Hear this clear, for I'll not further say.
That no man, shall cause me to take up arms again.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.

I think Eldorado is a masterpiece and possibly their finest work. Definitely one of the finest records ever made.
You people think to much, it's just fantastic music
Este album por lo general no es recordado entre los grandes exitos que ha creado ELO. Sin embargo, este álbum es una belleza, diferente a los demas álbumes, cierto, pero es una genialidad.
OKay but like the sudden change to triplets on the cellos is like the best thing ever
The ultimate song to get you through a breakup! And once again I need this shot in the arm of a song!! My friends will be glad to see me back to my normal self just as the song says!
No song will ever make me as happy as this. This is simple, uncontainable joy.
Exact same with me. First time I heard it I couldn't stop smiling!
I like the long orchestral intro into and throughout the song.... Great!
I loved back spinning the "secret messages" on this LP as a kid.
Increíble, la escuche una vez y hoy desperté con la melodía dándome vueltas en la cabeza.

whose here simply because you love elo?
Lisa zagha
Would we be here for anything else? :P
I had in my childhood memory that this was an Bob Dylan tune pioneering what would one day be the sound of the Traveling Wilburys... Of course, I now remember that Jeff Lynne was in that group too {facepalm}.
Hay que ser zoquete para poner un no me gusta a esta canción
Best album cover of all time.
I bought it while in college and still have it!
Barbaric!
Beautiful man
Protecting everyone. As always.
The one and only D A.
Beautiful
Pocket concerto; see 'Good Vibrations' Beach Boys. The whole album. Brian Wilson is all over it.
Let's see a fraud like the beyonce make something this lush analog.
Heroes and villains. It's insane.
I teach 10th grade history. I played this song between classes today. Three students came to my desk and took a picture of the screen. They liked the song so much they wanted to know what is was so they could listen to it later on.
Eric Corona AP World History is a great class
Good taste
Theme song for myself on the way to work, blue as a boy can be and walking in Memphis.
Definitely about a knight who returns from the crusades a changed man and therefore he tells his home village about the carnage of war and that he will never participate again

This a great song, beginning with a very regal-sounding classical introduction. Jeff Lynne and Louis Clark are musical geniuses.
ELO is a gift that keeps giving. My favorite songs are always changing. You relisten to songs you've heard
before and fall in love. This is one of those songs. Hidden little gems. So many amazing songs in their discography. This song is so beautiful
Floyd Brennan, I was a might big ELO until 1977's Out of the Blue - way to commercial. I bailed. 1972-1975 I am in.
The Beatles' "It's All Too Much," written by George Harrison, also incorporated fragments of Jeremiah Clarke's "Prince of Denmark's March" (also called "Trumpet Voluntary," the song you hear at the beginning), in that case it was played on trumpet by David Mason.
ClassicTVMan1981X the Beatles and ELO... such wonderful bands
That beginning, holy shit that was beatiful
Thank you Jeff. ELO for ever.
Can't stop listening to this song
Can't stop singing it either
Can’t get it out of my head 😂
oh hi old me. you are stinky
@MattChats yes
@znvorz quite indeed
President Trump for sure!
¿? No.
Maybe if it was called “Boy Orange”...
I wonder if there are any other young people who like this :p I do^^
And a huge prog fan
Hope so -you have great taste !
17 almost 18 right here 🤙🏻
I'm 14, and started listening to elo when I was 13. Gotta say, this song is my favorite so far!
A good band and good songs talk you places still......years back......
2 years exactly, lol
I have days that I just turn on ELO and just listen to them for hours.
No one ever mentions it, but both 'Boy Blue' and 'Sweet Talkin' Woman' start with the fanfare from 'The Prince of Denmark's March'.
I really like this song, I have not heard anything else quite like it. From the cheery and happy beginning with Jeff saluting an old friend back to home, and asking him where he has been, to this very friend berating his fellow citizens of the horrors he has witnessed and how he never wishes to experience it again. Still with the same tone and melody which the song had in the beginning. I get chills from this piece, just like I do with many of the other songs Lynne has made.
Only Lynne and his team could make such a masterpiece, for it to only fall into pseudo-fame, a real shame that is... But lets not dwell on that, lets be happy that Lynne graced our presence at all with his unique and even outlandish style of melodic work.
Lorkhanable I agree a very underrated and underappreciated song
Lorkhanable holy shit you made this song from nice to listen to to god tier for me
yeah man, understanding the lyrics make this song so much better!
'Sir Jeff' 2017 pleeeeeze! pretty pleeeeeeeeze! <3
Saw them in person in Atlanta. This was in the 70s in the old auditorium.
I saw them March 1975/76? Cobo Hall Detroit - Impressive!
Dee Donner Ramone they held concerts at the cobo hall?
ELO to be never duplicated, the greatest band everrrrrrrrrrrrr
Yes is better, but I love ELO
Jeff Lynne............Simply a Genius......ELO The Greatest Band everrrrrrrrrrrrrr
ELO and Pink Floyd are the two greatest bands in the music world!
M.G. N and the beatles ❤️, without them probably ELO wouldn’t exist
"Boy Blue", in my opinion, is THE ELO song that was the very turning point in their entire music career. This very song was the perfect example of how the typical awesome ELO song was to sound like. Starting off with a very formal, classical beginning and then breaking out into an orgy of electric power with Jeff Lynne's vocals sounding like he was singing in front of a huge crowd at a beach party or some other outdoor event. "Boy Blue" deserves to be heralded as one of ELO's greatests songs ever produced.
@mike mostad Jeff literally does it all, writes, produces, sings, and plays a ton of instruments! What can't he do!
@Sarah Kinsey I have to agree Sarah.. One thing he can't do? Write music that is not killer!!
@Pascal Leclair mine too lol
@Sarah Kinsey no this is when elo was a group
JENNY COOPER I know, but it seems like he does everything
Underrated ELO song.
Pocket concerto; see 'Good Vibrations' Beach Boys.
any live versions out there?
What a happy, awesome jam
What a stud
Mr Lynne, I must credit you with writing an amazing song.
Jeff Lynne was such a better lyricist back then. Don't get me wrong, his music is still great, but his lyrics now, sheesh.
He still makes music???
@A.J Javia Uh...yeah he does.
@charadeq Musically it's good.
Brandon Haygood listen to when I was a boy from alone in the universe. That might change your opinion slightly. The rest of his recent songs aren't as great lyrically though, I would agree.
Basically my theme song for my life. I looked at this album cover for days/weeks/months/years. Jeff Lynne, thanks.
I've seen bold knights, dropping down like flies,
I've seen kings, rolling in the mire,
I've seen God, point the finger of doom to our foes.
My friend introduced me to this song! I love it <3
cool tune eh
