i know im late to this but the thing some people doesnt understand is someone thinking your there son cause they have memory loss is a honor. God brought you into there life because they needed help can comfort. Like he said he will fill in the best he can thats all you can do make them your second mom or dad be there for them do stuff for them and make what time they got left on earth the best you can. you may learn something about them and there kid that might help you. If i was the one in the story i would be honored and i would be who ever they wanted me to be there son there brother ect. god brought you into there life for a reason and he brought them into your life for a reason.

I have watched so many loved ones lose their reality of who they are and who I was,this song hits home for alot of us.

I didnt know this song till last night when I watched Brett at a concert at the O2 empire at shephards Bush, when he was explained the song and then he starting singing it, I instantly had a tear rolling down my face because my nan has dementia and the last time i saw her she struggled to remember i who i was. When she was first diagnosed with dementia I was sad but it hadn't sunk in till now, it hurts so much, and this song I could not listen to without crying. Brett your an amazing guy and were great in concert, I will definitely have to get tickets again when you come back to the UK.

Im so thankful for my grandpa's nurses in his memory care unit. He still recognizes every one but I know this will change in time.

Just found this, it's an amazing song.. Taking my son to see Brett live in Birmingham uk on Saturday. I know if he sings this I'm gonna bawl my eyes out.. It reminds me of my step grandmother.. Out of all her grandchildren, it was only me she recognised at the end. She didn't recognise her children or step children, just me.. I would sit with her for hours and we would talk about when I was little as that was all she could remember.. I'm crying my eyes out now, 30 years on I still miss her and the things we did.. Working in a nursing home the last 10 years has opened my eyes and changed my heart so much. Ppl around me ask if I'm even the same person. I'm not. I live so much harder, love so much easier, and smile like its going to be my last. <3 Elderly and children have thought me more about the world and myself than I ever thought was possible.

This song gets me, not because I worked at a nursing home, but because it's more personal. I was very close to my grandma, I saw her everyday. Growing up, I came to her house, high school I'd stop by after class, as an adult, I had to take care of her. She eventually got to where she didn't know who I was. But before that, she confused me with some of my other family. I lost her right after I lost my great grandma, and before I lost my son (he was a foster kid, who happened to be my cousin's kid, I was told I'd be able to adopt. But he was givin to the dad, thankfully he's good to him.) Then I got a divorce. I've finally got my head on straight, but I've always wondered what advice my grandma would've givin me. Sorry for the life story.

I love older folks, it’s the reason that when I finish school I will be working in the Social Work field for the elderly.

Warning to those who are thinking about a career in Long Term Health Care. You will fall in love with your patients and when they pass it will rip your heart out of your chest. I know because I did it for seven years. My job was to make'em happy, flirt with the women and hang with the men. I have since retired from Fire/ Rescue but THAT job in Long Term Care was the most rewarding of all! I had my favorites of course. There was Ray, Josephine, Emily, Vivian (Otis the Drunks Wife) Raymond from the Chairioteers, Ginny, and many others. Then last year it hit home when Momma died from this horrible disease called Alzheimer's. It's the longest good-bye, it took years to run its course.

Exactly never correct them go along with it they already are old and a lot of times they're in dilutional States in trying to correct them just antagonize them. And needlessly upsets them let it go and just go with it.

Remind me of when I was a dietary aide at this nursing home for 3 years. Everyday after work I’d go sit outside and there was this old man that would be outside waiting to see if his wife would come see him. I would sit and talk to him. He’d start crying saying I reminded him of his wife. I met so many great people. Sad to see some of them go.

This touched my heart. Im a caregiver and love my clients. Sweet song.

My Nana was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer a few months ago and has lost almost all her memories of the last 30 years, but somehow still remembers people. Every time I walk into her room I have a moment of "oh god what if today is the day she forgets." Thought I was dealing with it OK but just spent 5 minutes crying over this song so I guess not.
