Elastica - Line Up Lyrics
Drivelhead wears her glad rags
She's got her keys, money and fags
I know that her mind is made up
To get rocked
As only a drivelhead can
He's a hormonal nightmare
So beware
Another victim of line up in line
Line up in line is all I remember
Oh how their favors change
You could have been kinder
Yes, yes, line up in line
Line up in line is all I remember
You could have been mine
Drivelhead knows all the stars
Loves to suck their shining guitars
They've all been right up her stairs
Do you care?
(No)
Drivelhead knows all the bands
Knows them like the back of her hands
You can't see the wood for the trees
On your knees
Another victim of line up in line
Line up in line is all I remember
Oh how your favors change
You could have been kinder
Yes, yes, line up in line
Line up in line is all I remember
Oh how your favors change
You could have been mine

fucking love the bassline
Did Blur cover tis as "Boyz and Girlz" or did Elastica cover it from BLUR?
Sitting in Good Mixer right now; WHERE IS EVERYONE?? Oh yeah....it’s 2019 😒
The only worse Wire rip-off outfit in the mid nineties was a band named Menswear. And they were just...terrible.
2019👍👍👍👍👍🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆
Still sounds savage A.F 24 years on! To be played no quieter than a decibel level worthy of receiving an ASBO, it really would be worth it!
Everyone stutters at good feet.
Very Good Bassline
Big Day Out Melbourne Jan 1996 - Great show!
It's really frustrating that this group ripped off Wire twice, and one of those songs happened to be their biggest. Glad Elastica got sued. I'm sure the fact that this chorus is a blatant rip off of I am the Fly added to Wire's case
@fuzzydunlop45 plagarization occurs regularly in music. If someone stole my stuff, I'd be pissed though not surprised because of the reason stated above. Now if plagiarism was such a problem, then we'd be busy suing every goth band for stealing it from kraftwerk, think on it.
And onto wire. I am fully aware on how good was wire as I've been listening to post punk music all my life(I'm 17 btw and I used to listen to alot of post punk stuff thanks to the video games I've played haha). When I talked on wire being generic, I was referring to on how they sound lackluster and weak as compared to the other bands from the time. And what do you expect from the media anyways, they do always push the generic stuff onto the peoples view?. The Smith's were supposedly the best new wave band to exist when that's untrue, for example!. Now when musicians go for variety especially in post punk, they have to be very careful with their compositions. Wire couldn't implement their beats well as compared to other post punk band and that's why I despise them for their undeserved fame.
The other bands that did better than them and were NOT influenced by wire would be the band I just mentioned, red zebra, danse society, cassandra complex, faith no man(yes, they're faith no more) and gang of four
@Anonymous Duckling Come on now, using a similar aesthetic is different than plagiarizing literal riffs. Especially when a riff is so quirky, as Three Girl Rhumba's is. Kraftwerk may be an influence on Goth Rock but not to the point where you could sue? Kraftwerk hadn't used guitars since autobahn so I have no clue where you're getting that idea. Wire had nowhere close to the same level of notoriety and exposure as The Smiths did. It's also worth mentioning that I agree, The Smiths are overrated. But man we're arguing over opinions, so we should just leave it at that. In my opinion, Wire deserves the acclaim, and in yours they don't, that's cool. I recently have listened to red zebra's 80's tape it's really good. Gang of Four is also one of my favorite bands. I'll check out those other two bands. Have you heard of This Heat or The Momes? Both insanely original. This Heat's one of my favs and The Momes album spiraling has been constantly on repeat
@fuzzydunlop45I gave the kraftwerk example as darkwave music(UK based new wave) and Coldwave music(French new wave), is completely based on synthesizers. If I had to be more accurate, then I'd say that 90% of the goth bands took a lot from "The Screamers", more specifically, their song called "122 hours of fear". And it's not the aesthetic, literally the whole synth pattern is stolen by hundreds of goth bands ranging from Danse society to more popular ones like she past away(a modern day goth band).
Ah and if we talk on guitar riffs, the post punk bands of today and beforehand stole a lot from a song called "A Forest" and "Disintegration" by "The Cure", with a bit of "Song Of Liberty" by "Faith no Man). And on the side note, if Robert Smith(the cure) had started suing these goth bands for plagiarism, he'd win countless times. So yes, plagiarism has been going on for a long time and there's really no reason to sue a band for that, unless that the whole band is a COMPLETE ripoff of another band from start to finish, which elastica weren't since they had an original album called "The Menace"(did you know that some member from wire actually said that he wouldn't have cared about the whole plagiarism thing as it was all a method of the media to rile in the heat between the two bands, elastica and wire).
I'll check out "This Heat" and "The Momes" a while later. I've actually been busy listening to French coldwave music that I didn't have time to check on the more obscure post punk artists like the ones you've mentioned. And that's that.
@fuzzydunlop45 My god, "The Momes" were incredible haha!. I honestly didn't expect them to be nice but they actually were. They kinda reminded me of "Taxi Girl", more specifically, their song called "Bloodsucking babies" reminded me of "V2 sur mes souvenir" by taxi girl. I'll check on the other band later on. Cheers!.
@Anonymous Duckling Glad we came together at the end lol. I'll check those bands out for sure, including Taxi Girl if they're anything like The Momes
where are they right now in 2019?
Pretty much dead honestly. Justine's an artist now and she's married to some guy who works as a professor. Justin, the drummer, played for another unknown band for a while, and he may be still in that band. Dunno what happened to Annie, and Donna is living a peaceful life elsewhere....and that's it...
Memories of cheap cider and student house parties.... ah, the mid 90s.
LOL, I just wanted to be 50 in the dislike....Da.
Not another teen movie.
Que buen rollo transmitían estas chicas!!!
They were so cool even more than their music
..... OINTMENT.....
Posh rip off merchants.
They're far better anyways mate.
Sounds like It's no game by David bowie
love it
Athough this song was (relatively,) massively popular, it is, oddly, the song that people will remember Elastica by because it is such a blatant lift from Wire ( I am the Fly). Of course they were abviously big fans of Wire from the beginning, and of course they were original artists in their own right, and of course it isn't fair. But, as the philosophers say, tha's life.
There's nothing wrong with "plagarising" music. For instance, the breeders(cannonball) took it from fugazi(waiting room). Killing joke(eighties) stole it from the damned(life goes on). Besides,it's not who does it first that counts it's about who does it better.
Sure if you prefer the original then it's on you but plagarising is something that happens all the time in music.
Sounds like Blur stealing from David Bowie´s berlin trilogy
It's nice to hear Blur b-sides
These b sides sound so much better than the tracks on blur's album too!
Too bad that Justine doesn't sing anymore, but she makes wonderful artwork so I'm happy for her.
killer riff right there
Pure non-jewished yet Avalon.
Śliczności. Lubię to. Bardzo.
Excellent morceau
For me, this is the best song of Elastica. Its sooo fucking cool.
This sounds like Blur

I played this CD nonstop in 1995. What a great year. What a great fucking decade, in fact.
Such an Underrated song here in America! I only heard about their song, Connection, until I stumbled upon this! Elastica is So Underrated!
About time you guys did the honorable thing and apologized for all that plagarism, don't you think?
Plagarisim happens all the time,so what if they did the same?
Best of the Britpop. No doubt.
bloody tune
OINTMENT
Soooo *good !!!!* ....
The band became subject to controversy when several bands sued them for plagiarism. Specifically, the post-punk band Wire (whom Elastica counted as one of their main influences) claimed that many of the band's melodies were taken from Wire compositions, as well as by The Stranglers. Notably, Wire's "I Am the Fly" has a chorus similar to Elastica's "Line Up" and the intro synthesizer part in Elastica's "Connection" (later also repeated on guitar) is lifted from the guitar riff in Wire's "Three Girl Rhumba" and transposed a semitone, and The Stranglers also passed comment that Elastica's "Waking Up" bore a marked resemblance to their song "No More Heroes". The disputes were resolved by out-of-court settlements.
reminds me of "hardest button to button" by the white stripes.
¡¡uuuaaa aa uuuaaaa!!! great
Esa Justine .¿eh?
They were a brilliant band ...
It's very..... Blur...
i think so. to much blur.
Stereotype
Except better.
Liam Martin — you’re insane!
Just one problem, both bands were influenced by Wire.
"I am the fly" seems to have inspired Girls and Boys, and this one.
Even the album 154 is much better
this song is pretty badass.
this is my favourite song from elastica classic
my favorites band
They broke up in 2001 . . . will never reunite. Sad sad sad.
i saw a picture in Facebook
3 members excluding Justine and it's says reunion.
sorry for my bad English 😊🙏
even now...the decade of reunions...
where did Elastica go?
Justin Pollock justine became an artist
it seems blur, girls and boys.
"I Liked Them a Lot"
To już 20 lat a płyta zabija jak zabijała
Herrliche monotone Punk-Mugge im Stile der Stranglers.

Lord, these Yids get everywhere !
It's no game by Bowie. Surprised he didn't want a cut.
+Russell Wharton
Damn, you're absolutely right. I've been on a Bowie and Bowie-influenced kick the last few days, and I always heard his influence in this song, but the connection was never made. (Pun absolutely intended.)
I don't see it at all, and I think that Bowie song is possibly the best song ever written.
AND I'D STILL LINE UP ALL THE GIRLS & LICK THEIR NICE PERFECT LITTLE ASSHOLES....
They would kick your teeth out.
😜😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am the fly, I am the fly, fly in the ointment...
which song do you enjoy more?
@startervisions I Am The Fly. It's so obvious...
@mookie2637 and three girl rhumba
Massively underrated group
Although excellent music is underrated, everyone always says it sound familiar... like hits. Salutes.
I don't know mate, their debut album was class but everything else wasn't that good
@Kev M what are you talking about mate?. The menace was an incredible album of theirs!. It consisted of underappreciated tracks like "Mad dog", "Love like ours" and "Miami nice". Maybe you should check those out yeah?.
@Anonymous Duckling maybe I should
Wire ........... Wire............. Wire.......... Wire...........
i thought elastica were supposed to be good :/
Good beat. Boring video.
Esses filhos da puta de anúncios de You Tube.... pqp
um brasileiro por aqui 😜 pois é, chato isso...
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
reminds me of Wire's I am the fly.
O wait, Elastica were sued over that.
Actually they were sued over that other song that ripped off Three Girl Rhumba, iirc.
They were also sued by the Stranglers which they settled with a payment.
Sorry for Justine but Elastica where shameless plagiarists, maybe 3 o 4 songs are original, all the others are copied
They were not sued BY the Stranglers, read more carefully !
Girls and Boys of Blur, was influenced by I Am the Fly
Even i prefer muuuch more "154" where they have the first pop-punk songs of all.. time.
Reminds me of Babyshambles
I was thinking the same thing.
too bad Babyshambles got together 8 years after this song came out then ;)
I wasn't saying they copied babyshambles or something. Just that their sound is similar.
@allie friese guess babyshambles got a good taste in music then ;)
I'm going to listen to babyshambles right now
Ahhhh, the 90's.
I had this cd back in the day. lol
Pero que plagio tan descarado a Wire!
Until I forgot all about this band when I heard "Connection" somewhere and was like what ? I remember that ...
then this morning it took a few minutes to find the band as all I had was a beat in my head but eventually it triggered me remembering ... Elastica !!!!!
What a great album
tilted kilt sent me here ....
Sterling Smith II dude tilted kilt is badass
"That kid...is BACK ON THE ESCALATOR AGAIN!"
I still remember the concert at Arena Auditorium (Valencia) in December '95
I want he to call me a drivel head!
ahww, Damon!
The 1990’s era of “Britpop” stood on the shoulders of the accomplishments of the music videos which preceded them on UK “Top of the Pops”, MTV in the USA, etc. I also agree about Blur. It is forgotten that MOST groups DO NOT hold fame like the Rolling Stones, ABBA, and VERY few others. By the way, I am honored to have received a comment from gypsyspacemuffin0 whose name is more fantastic than anything I could imagine! Thank you.
Yes, it sure is.
ole! ole! y OLe! jajajajajjajaja EspañaTiTaniC jajajaja ya en serio mejor con musica buena no?
I can spread more disease than the fleas
Which nibble away at your window display....

iam 14 nd i lovee Elastica..i started listining to them when my dad showed me this song..and i have to admit they are pretty kick ass:D
loves to suck their shiny guitars... lol justine!
All pomp, no circumstance.
Elastica never received the recognition their music deserved. Well done.
Elastica borrowed liberally from other bands' music, but it all sounds good.
Elastica was so very original. Well done!
@arlenodalaigh
