Edwyn Collins - If You Could Love Me Lyrics

Darkness, darkness all around
And my senses have been stripped
Of sight and sound

Suddenly I came to, I pulled through
Amazed at what I saw
Struggling hard to find the words
When words tends to stick right in my craw

I'm talking about seizing the moments
When the moment has gone
There's no telling me 'cause I'm holding on
Hoping against hope that you've got it wrong

If you could love me
Like I love you
If you could love me
Like I love you

Frozen in time and space
Yet I feel no need
To get out of this place

And suddenly the earth moved
The planets grooved, I fell down on my knees
Someone whispered take your leave
You're free to go any way you please

I'm talking 'bout seizing the moments
When the moment has gone
There's no telling me 'cause I'm holding on
Hoping against hope that you've got it wrong

If you could love me
Like I love you
If you could love me
Like I love you

I'm talking 'bout holding out
So scared to follow through
I'm talking 'bout holding out
So scared of losing you

If you could love me
Like I love you
If you could love me
Like I love you

If you could love me
Like I love you
Like I love you
Like I love you
'Cause I love you

My old school mate Simon (author of Ziggyology & Simply Thrilled) Goddard made the video for this. His degree show video had been an hour long beer-can puppet biopic of the life of Joe Meek. He saw Edwyn on Later talking about how he had just bought Meek's studio gear and got in touch with him. The rest is "no it was the one before A Girl Like You" history.

It was 'the one before A Girl Like You' (well, the second release, when it became a hit) in the UK. But the first release of 'A Girl Like You' was actually a hit in Australia, pre-dating this, I'm pretty sure. 'A Girl Like You' entered the top 100 in Australia in early January 1995, and peaked at #6 in March 1995. Whereas this single first entered the UK chart in late March 1995. The second release of 'A Girl Like You' entered the UK chart in June 1995.

@jonblazeinc Believe it's reggae guitarist and producer Dennis Bovell on bass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Bovell

Lovely clip, never seen it before. Vic Godard from Subway Sect twiddling the knobs and ex Sex Pistols' Paul Cook on drums.
