Edie Brickell & New Bohemians - Pill Lyrics

You say you can't pay attention
It's getting' pretty rough
You feel a little down now
And you can't get it up

They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that

Now the pressure is rising
It's gettin' to your head
Nothing is exciting
You wanna stay in bed

They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that

Side effects may include
Headache and anxiety
Loss of appetite which means
Palpitations and dry lips
No desire to be kissed

You lie down in the darkness
It's there when you awake
Hounded by a problem
Haunted by mistakes

They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that

Ooh
Ooh

They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that

They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that
They got a pill for that

Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh

Edie Brickell & New Bohemians Pill Comments

    Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. I love you, Edie.
Question: did Edie make this video herself? I know she makes art, I wouldn't be surprised if she did. It's an instant classic.

I was watching "Statue" (The Pills Song) video by Swedish folk sensation Smith & Thell, and thought to myself that this EB video said it better. Nothing against Smith & Thell, they've got some decent stuff in that genre, I just like EB's better :-)

  3. I.... S....

I like the double entendre of a "pill for that" and "pilfer that". Brave New World anyone?
...and I have always loved her painting and sketches...so glad she took the trouble to give this great song a video for yt.

  4. t.... ....

This is a problem. They got a pill for that!

  5. s.... h....

    need play back?

  6. S.... S....

Too true we are real they got a pill for that

This is a marvelous example of Edie Brickell's delightful whimsy. I love the combination of visual art like this to accompany a fabulous song. Hey, even the animated characters are singing the background vocals!

The pharmaceutical industry, with the help of the doctors, and now the DEA, have NOW taken it to an even greater level by opening the door to, not only, a new and improved way to further the “war on drugs” by pushing their highly addictive pharmaceutical dope, but to a new crime wave as well, and with no contingency plan. But why would they worry about contingency when it is both stimulating the economy, and thinning the herd? A win-win?
Ah, what a grand disaster this has turned out to be! The effect on America is nothing short of the biggest, nation-wide, heroin addiction in history, overshadowing the ‘60s by several million participants. The main differences are: first, the target market is the lower middle, middle, and upper middle class folks who suffer from back pain, and of course, just as they always have, the Rock-Stars and celebrities join right in.  Secondly, and more shocking is the fact that the pharmaceutical companies are the suppliers, and the doctors, “legal” dealers instead of some mysterious “cartel” (the CIA) supplying the dealers (gangs) on the street corner—like the crack wave of the ‘80s.
The whole affair is a giant fucking debacle of friendly-fire perpetrated against virtually every American who finds themselves seeing a doctor for chronic pain, and then getting caught in the crossfire of concerns such as: addiction, the controlling nature of “pain management”,  the loss of privacy, and the fear of arrest and opiate withdrawal while in custody. This problem has become literally, and metaphorically, a baby head sized turd clogging up the toilet bowl of life in an opiate-constipated America! What a setup!
Our “government” AKA “private industry”, has created a huge PIECE OF SHIT! Sorry. Just sayin, that’s all.

Wow. This is all the people that have seen this? What a shame. I was so lucky to see Edie and The Gaddabouts in Manhattan at Carnegie hall when this came out. It was an awesome concert. It was Steve Gadd's birthday.

  10. N.... ....

    EXCELENTE COMPOSICION Y BUENA VOZ

  11. N.... ....

  12. M.... K....

  13. M.... S....

Wow. They've got a pill for that. Deep

    M.... S....

You were expecting something more sophisticated and philosophical like Lady Gaga, right?

  14. w.... ....

She's absolutely right, your problems do not stem from the lack of a man-made chemical in your bloodstream. And Edie would approve of the whimsical animation, not unlike hers. And I'll be needing me a 200-count prescription of the pill made out of the pulverized clown--STAT!!

  15. R.... P....

    awesome song

  16. W.... ....

    Love this animation. Edie!

  17. s.... ....

When Edie is good, she's very, very good. "Pill" is very, very good.

  18. t.... ....

    Woof!

It's about time a song like this came out.

  19. M.... ....

Want fuller eyelashes?...they got a pill for that

    M.... ....

M34TP4DDY - Eye Drops, actually. My friend discovered it while doing the write-up on that particular drug for the FDA approval process, originally it was for something else entirely. They were having a hard time getting the stuff approved, when he told them, "Look, this "side-effect" probably has more commercial potential than the original application. Let's re-write the study and see what happens". True story...thug now that I think about it, maybe I wasn't supposed to talk about it. Hmm.
