Eddie Cochran - Summertime Blues Lyrics
I'm a-gonna raise a fuss
I'm a-gonna raise a holler
About workin' all summer
Just-a trying to earn a dollar
Try to get a date
My boss says "No dice, son
You gotta work late"
Sometimes I wonder
What I'm-a gonna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
Well my mama and papa told me
If you wanna use the car
To go a-ridin' next Sunday"
Well, I didn't go to work
Told the boss I was sick
"You can't use the car
'Cause you didn't work a lick"
Sometimes I wonder
What I'm-a gonna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
I'm gonna take two weeks
Gonna have a fine vacation
I'm gonna take my problem
To the United Nations
Well, I called my congressman
And he said, quote:
"I'd like to help you, son
But you're too young to vote"
Sometimes I wonder
What I'm-a gonna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

Eddie Cochran Summertime Blues Comments
This original version is good but blue cheer did it better.
American Shaolin
I love Eddie's music. I saw him perform live in 1958. What a great show!
Rockabilly Baby All Day
but now he will live forever and never age a day
I have to agree, both Elvis and Cliff would not have had it so easy
He was the best!
The Original By Eddie Cochran here is Classic But The Who's cover on this Song is Priceless and blows this song out of the Water and actually puts and breathes new life into the song.
El Blues del Verano...
Larga vida al Rock and Rollo
Saludos cordiales
America should be proud of this giant of 50s rock n roll. The king imo.
Rock de verdade 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Who’s here after listening to Alan Jackson’s cover?
Brilliant piece of songwriting by a huge talent.
One of the great rock songs of all time! Thanks for posting this aural gem!
Eddie muistamme sinua, we love you allways!
This guy had so much talent, And to be cut down so young, not even in his prime, is a tragedy for the family and the music world.

This is as American as Apple pie..I know this ditty and I didn't learn it in 50 nuthin..this was all over when I was 10 in 1985 timeless American summer jam..He was sorta cute..that red les is sure pretty too!
I still move my feet snap my fingers, EVERY time I hear this all-time Rock-a-Billy Classic. ----------------------WolfSky9
King of rock and roll
Sounds like an elvis imitator like all the others of the 50's. However, I do like this song, albeit none of the others he recorded were on this level, most were pretty forgettable and you don't hear them much on oldies stations.
Released: March 28, 1958
I never knew that this was a remake.
Not a remake. The original just altered for stereo.
@Jason Weiskopf maybe I am just confused
Eddie Buddy Elvis - the 3 Greatest from the U.S !!! SO SAD how Eddie was killed over here in UK, such a waste, pure Tragedy .................
This song would've been great in the movie Christine.
There is nothing you can do with a modern studio to improve that song. DON'T TOUCH IT.
This song is true: summer sucks
I'm sorry but wtf is your profile pic bruh
I just learned that summer time blues wasn’t originally from Alan Jackson, oops
It was covered by almost everybody. Eddie wrote it.
There may actually have been a cure, but it would of made a lot people, very nervous back then. 🤣
Next Sunday 1968 Before Marines in July
def equal to Elvis
Hit the Top 30 On 8/4/58, Peaked at No. 8, On the Chart 16 Weeks!
Summer SUCKS
I recently bought a Gretsch as much for that sound, but maybe... more for the artistry of the guitar. It looks like a museum piece!
Iamhere cuz is summer time blues season jejejeje
You gotta work lateeee
No cure for the summertime blues
The original teenage protest song. I'm 75 but I still remember this. It amazes me how many times this song was covered and by whom.
espectacular 💪🏻💪🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Eat your heart ❤️ out Allan Jackson
What ever do you mean after what years
So ahead of his time , never under estimate the power of 3 guitar chords , simply brilliant
Who's here because of IT?
The book 📚 It by Steven King brought me here 😂 page 1016 if anyone wants to know
This song was on Caddyshack
Better than Elvis
That`s not difficult though.
American Shaolin !
classic Eddie Cochran
It's funny how we all hear something else . I always thought he said " Well I called my congressman and he said Quote" Someone heard "Whoa" Someone else heard " He sent a note" Listening to it again today, I thought I heard " Roll a Toke" I could be wrong. Great up load , Thanks Twodawgzz!
Eddie was great, but unsure he would've had the staying power buddy holly would
Rockabilly has had a place in my heart since 1955 and no rockabilly artist is better than Cochran. Elvis deserves credit for recording those first hits that created a market for the genre but we must never forget the rest of the country musicians who were just waiting for an excuse to fire the steel guitar player, recruit a drummer and get down on that beat! Eddie is forever.
He was the first Singer , composer and guitar man on the history rock and roll .
Poor kid that he died young
Still love the song
Lou been losing at the track. well I ain't paying 50 cent for no coke.
..........then you don't get no coke!!!
These photos are priceless. What a treat to see them.
my getting out of school for the summer song
Still cool in 2019.
I agree
One of the great rock n' roll songs of all time. Eddie Cochran was outstanding. I've been dancing to this song for most of my life.

Liberty Records bought this song when I was 8
I came here from the movie "this boys life" when he stole the car😂
Threw his body across his fiance to shield her.The taxi they were in blew a tire and careened off the road.Ed's fiance lived,he died.Eddie you're a good man and take care wherever you are.
Looks like Mamie van Doren at 0:45
A classic! RIP Eddie. You were just 21 when you left us.
Dancing music
This song sounds similar to Babs doing Elmar Pressly
Summertime Blues is one of my favourite songs of all time, RIP Eddie, the best, Lee.
I'm gonna raise a fuss
I'm gonna raise a holler
About working all summer
Just to try to earn a dollar
Everytime I call my baby
Try to get a date
My boy says, "No, dice, son
You gotta work late"
Sometime I wonder
What am I gonnna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
Well, my mom and papa told me
Son you got to make some money
If you wanna use the car to go
Riding next Sunday
Well, I didn't go to work
Told the boss I was sick
"Now you can't use the car
'Cause you didn't work a lick"
Sometime I wonder
What am I gonnna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
I'm gonna take two weeks
Gonna have a fine vacation
I'm gonna take my problem
To the United Nations
Well, I called up my congressman
And he sent a note
"I'd like to help you, son
But you're too young to vote"
Sometime I wonder
What am I gonnna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

The Who cover it completely like this.
Yeah the WHO kill it. Stunning rendition.
Came here from Blue Cheer's cover. Much repsect to Eddie. But I love the power of the cover 😂
I'm 13 and I think this is a good song for how old it is.
The Who is nonsense for this song.
