I watched this for the first time in 2011. Had no idea who this guy was but I thought this technique was so cool that I went out and tried it for myself. For some reason today I just thought of this video again and found it in my YouTube history. My my how far he has come. Congrats Ed.

The way he recovers from when he makes mistakes in this is spectacular. You can see a bit of nervousness but he's a brave fellow. Well done here, Ed...

This is the worst version of this often performed song, except perhaps that by Tom Ellis of Lucifer. The meaning is lost here. There's the strange breathiness and the falsetto in his voice, and other sound effects. The oddest one I wonder about is the huge inhalations of breath deliberately and noisily into the mike just before the end. He leaves out a lot of the lyrics for the sake of the meaningless sound effects.

If you want to hear somebody playing around with it, and yet still staying true to it's meaning, listen to Eva Cassidy. She's a fine singer whose work I generally dislike, but this is brilliant.

Okay, I try not to get too upset when people remix songs that I like, but I feel like this is a bad take on the song. It's meant to be more somber and slow, about how hard life is, but you know you're going to be okay in the end. This upbeat pop version doesn't suit the song or the message at all

I just LOVE watching him “build” the harmonies!! He is so so amazing!! I am always blown away by his lyrics but every thing he touches is magic. If you haven’t heard his cover of The Parting Glass you need to find it!!

I will never forget the concert I saw him sing this at. It was the beginning of his career and he was so excited to be singing at a decent sized place (it was the Nokia theatre). He sang the ending with no mic or music and just let his voice echo through the theatre. He was so excited the people in the back could hear him. It was one of my favorite musical moments I’ve witnessed
