The Bunnymen though are the greatest band to come out of Liverpool by a distance.

That is some statement, but I wouldn't dismiss it as lightly as some might. I believe that Ocean Rain is a better album than any the Beatles ever made. I can't agree that they surpassed the Beatles overall though. Definitely not.

Ocean Rain is better than anything the Beatles done, you're right, but it's not even the best Bunnymen album so i would therefor suggest that they have surpassed the Beatles overall.

@Zadunestar You've got to get into stuff like Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Owen Pallet, Bibio... these are the TRUE artists of our times. I'm fed up with this kind of vision of our days. Lady Gaga should never be mentioned on an Echo & The bunnyman video.
