Echo & The Bunnymen - Gods Will Be Gods Lyrics
How can you pretend
When there's so much at stake
That it's a different world
And your hands don't shake
And the foot of the bar
We knew that soon
We'd be making our mark
Why do you defend
The part you have to take
With your fingers on the world
Hoping your hands don't shake
When you get the time
Connecting yours and mine
And turning in to out
Back to the bar
I was feeling it
The hole in the floor
Was where I would sit
Positions will be lost
And things will fall in place
The falling will not stop
Till we have found our face
Oh will you mention
Oh will you mention
My name to one
Oh will you mention
My name to me
Gods will be gods
But my lord forgot
I was made out of skin
Bones will be bones
But when I came home
There was no one in
So where were you staying
While I was out playing
Was nobody laying the foundation,
The fulfilling of our killing
How can you pretend
That there's so much at stake
And it's a different world
And everything shakes
I am the unknown
You're the after taste
I am total love
I am total hate
Let's face facts
We won't mind
of us
We will...

Echo & The Bunnymen Gods Will Be Gods Comments
echo is the '80's, life was happening.. when everything was safe.. we were cool
And your hands don't shake
Incredible melody and sound! The best.
amo esta canción
Seeing them tonight - so excited! Love this song!!
GREAT ALBUM COVER
I've never ever heard Krautrock cited as an influence by the band themselves, and they do talk about their influences quite a lot.
+shaun's vids Will Sergeant is a well-known fan of Krautrock.
I wonder if they were influenced by krautrock on this track? The little cascading piano bit and the drum line remind me of Neu!. So good.
Totally. Check the '83 live version on French TV here on YT for more evidence on this.
What a song, what a band......................
And don't forget Heaven Up Here. Actually the Bunnymen released 4 masterpieces in a row and they are very different.
One of the best album covers ever. Best band ever. This is possibly their best album although Crocodiles and Ocean Rain are also masterpieces
Gods will be Gods
But my Lord forgot
I was made out of skin
The greatest band of the period.....period. Saw these guys earliest San Francisco shows, along with U2. There was no comparison. Long live The Bunnymen~!
tell me more... webster? go on...
this aint that heavy... it's light hearted compared to porcupine... the anticipation of some dynamic crescendo perhaps made you think thus????? it'd would have been cool to see this played live - a 15 minute barage of heavy bass etc and then the band trashing their equipment...
Superb bass line mr pattison.

@EminusPier Hi Mate! Only just found your link in comments, this sounds superb pal! Will check more of it out.x
the best of Echo...
i asked ian multiple times to play this .he replied possibly , and maybe , but in 28 shows all over the place they not once played gods will be gods. every show was ecstasy anyway .even glastonbury in the mud with a bicycle
On Porcupine, it's my favorite one with Clay!
@Terry1950Men Actually, Ian McCulloch didn't know who John Webster was, he saw the name in his girlfriend's English book and he added it to the song because he couldn't think of anything else and it fit. Fun fact right there lol
hypnotic!
The Bunnymen`s most sinister song. I remember hearing this for the first time in 83 and thinking "Fuck, they`ve done it" and indeed they went all out on this one. Brilliant and Apocalyptic.
the best bunnymen album...timeless
