Eartha Kitt - St. Louis Blues Lyrics

I hate to see that evening sun go down
I hate to see that evening sun go down
Cause my baby, he's gone left this town

Feelin' tomorrow like I feel today
If I'm feelin' tomorrow like I feel today
I'll pack my truck and make my give-a-way

St. Louis woman with her diamond ring
Pulls that man around by her, if it wasn't for her and her
That man I love would have gone nowhere, nowhere

I got the St. Louis blues, blues as I can be
That man's got a heart like a rock cast in the sea
Or else he wouldn't have gone so far from me

I love my baby like a school boy loves his pie
Like a Kentucky colonel loves his mint 'n rye
I love my man till the day I die

Yes, Mistress Eartha...whatever you wish...I am yours to command...ouch!

  17. a.... b....

I love this movie my first exposure to her not as Catwoman there is gold out there in theses old movies

  18. M.... C....

I loved the little clip at the beginning of Kitt as the Catwoman on the 1960's "Batman" TV show, but most of this is from the 1958 film "St. Louis Blues," a biopic of blues composer and bandleader W. C. Handy starring Nat "King" Cole. (BTW, both Handy and Cole were the sons of ministers.) I first saw "St. Louis Blues" in the 1980's and thought Eartha Kitt could have given Madonna lessons on how to look sexy on screen! This isn't Kitt's best sequence in the film (her version of Handy's "Yellow Dog Blues" is), and that arrangement is really silly, but it's still worth having.

  19. S.... M....

    Some Lady!

  20. B.... M....

Gene Austin sang this a million times better. Also Marion Harris sang this a million times better. I be never fan of Eartha Kitt. Sorry, but I can't like her.

    B.... M....

And..............? Why do you have to be sorry? Who cares?????

    B.... M....

and it was her birthday. Very nice person ,humble , a real artist.

  23. M.... M....

classic cat woman has special powers to put kinky nappy and frizzy in one magical smoke bomb. WOW what a powerful super hero.

  24. T.... ....

Cat Women took those ladies straight into the eighties. Eartha Kitt I love you!

    T.... ....

    Lol sure did

  25. A.... G....

This never stops raising goosebumps that come from deep in our Missouri roots.
    my first Black muse!

  26. a.... ....

I love the non sequitur Catwoman opening.... before Eartha takes the stage as the glamourous Gogo. This was a great movie and the performances were stellar!!

  27. b.... k....

what a classy lady. RIP Eartha ...

  28. J.... ....

A great song, but the music seems WAY too overproduced. you don't need a full orchestra for the blues.

Mrs. Kit saves it, but it really was a struggle to get through the first half of the song

    J.... ....

+JohnnyV83 nahhh... the orchestra sounded great.

    J.... ....

+JohnnyV83 The idea was that Jazz and Blues were now being accepted as serious music on the same level as Classical. This moment elevated the life of songwriter William Handy. And one of Eartha's great vocals!

    J.... ....

I think it's great they pulled out all the stops with strings for her. Don't forget the great Charlie Parker with Strings, just awesome

    J.... ....

I agree with the first post. An orchestra can be excellent and I have no faults with this one but when you have a voice like hers it doesn't need all the extras.

    J.... ....

Its a living music, even now. A man never tells the same story the same way twice unless hes a phony. Same for a woman.

  29. J.... M....

    Great lady!

    J.... M....

The great, the wonderful, the sexy Ms. Eartha Kitt.

  30. A.... S....

    .... this... is this... Yzma.

    A.... S....

    in paradise

  31. L.... G....

I've seen many artists perform this song but, in this moment with her facial expressions and how she commands the audience with her aura of power, elegance and poise; she embodied the lyrics and I haven't found a performance to top her in this one to this day.

    L.... G....

    the original with bessie smith.

    L.... G....

I'll have a listen to that one then.  Thank you ^_^

    L.... G....

LadyJ G - She was a shy Capricorn but had Sagittarius as her Ascendant which I believe gave her that extroverted performance spark.

    L.... G....

    She was elegant and cool

  32. M.... M....

i remember very clearly hearing she died because she dies at christmas-time and because she sang santa baby.

  33. l.... ....

    che voce magnifica,che donna bellissima!!!

  34. M.... ....

Remember when beyonce was going to play her?

    M.... ....

    Modzw,
    I’m glad she didn’t

  35. N.... B....

    such an elegant melancholy

  36. B.... S....

FIERCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! OMG I Could Not DEAL Huneyy YESZZZZ!!!

  37. r.... x....

I could see Jada Pinkett portraying her in a much needed future-length film. Both women were petite in staure but possess a commanding attitude!

    r.... x....

    renee xuereb
    They look nothing alike...

  38. M.... ....

That is a grand film production...

  39. V.... A....

St Louis Blues was on of the best movies that I have ever seen. Loved it!

  40. M.... B....

    I agree 100%

  41. M.... B....

As far as actresses are concerned, Zoe Saldana would be a good fit, she resembles Earth Kitt, but someone else would have to do the vocals like they did for Angela Bassett when she played the part of Tina Turner. She did an excellent job, but she did no singing.

    M.... B....

    Marcus Barton-Sconiers
Tf? She looks nothing like her

  42. l.... ....

Did you notice how graciously she walks onto the scene? Definitely the fairest of them all!!

    l.... ....

    laserdave82
No, she was the darkest of them all which is why she was the most beautiful

  43. R.... ....

Earth Kitt, the OG Cat Woman. RIP Eartha.

  51. 5.... ....

    Wow. Amazing song.

I remember when my dad used to watch this movie. It brings back memories.

  52. A.... ....

    Repose En Paix.
