Eartha Kitt - Lilac Wine Lyrics

I lost myself on a cool, damp night
I gave myself in that misty light
Was hypnotized by a strange delight
Under a lilac tree

I made wine from the lilac tree
Put my heart in its recipe
It makes me see what I want to see
And be what I want to be

When I think more than I want to think
Do things I never should do
I drink much more than I ought to drink
Because it brings me back you

Lilac wine is sweet and heady
Like my love
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady
Like my love

Listen to me, I cannot see clearly
Isn't that she, coming to me, nearly here

Lilac wine is sweet and heady
Where's my love
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady
Where's my love

Listen to me, why is everything so hazy
Isn't that she, or am I just going crazy, dear

Lilac wine, I feel unready for my love
Feel unready, for my love

Eartha Kitt Lilac Wine Comments
  1. T.... W....

She sounds exactly like she looks

  2. J.... ....

Interesting. But for me Elkie Brooks and Nina Simone are much better.

  3. D.... P....

    Wow, wow, wow, wow....

  4. k.... ....

Elkie Brooks by a mile. Only singer to have a major hit with it.

  5. C.... W....

    I feeeeel this is perfect..

  6. S.... M....

    Ok I can die now😊❤️

  7. F.... V....

Jeff's version is the best for my taste.

  8. G.... J....

    Perfect!

  9. V.... A....

    Qué clase de música es?

    V.... A....

    I think is Jazz

  10. E.... S....

is it just me or does she sound like Eezma from the emperor's new groove?

    E.... S....

+Esme Snape That's her, you got it.

    E.... S....

Yzma, and she voiced Yzma, so yes obviously lol.

    E.... S....

Eartha went through menopause, and became Yzma.

  11. E.... C....

Eartha Kitt's version of this song is strange because of the dissonance of the musical instruments...sounds out of tune. Normally she was a vocal genius. BEST versions of this song are Elkie Brooks and Miley Cyrus. Susan Boyle's is a little laid back but sort of captivating.

    E.... C....

+Ed Clancy Jeff Buckley's take on the song is pretty genius as well, in my opinion.

    E.... C....

Nina Simone and Jeff Buckley are the best

    E.... C....

Ed Clancy it's supposed to sound slightly discordant. it's supposed to make you feel tipsy/drunk and slightly brokenhearted

    E.... C....

Not out of tune, just chromatic, which gives some nice depiction of being a bit tipsy

  12. P.... M....

Eartha exudes talent and sex. one of my favourite female singers. not the best catwomen. but ....ohh LA LA !

    P.... M....

What??? She's known for being the BEST Catwoman.

  13. m.... c....

She was so wonderful, talented, beautiful and intelligent............and strong.

  14. J.... B....

    Nina Simone also recorded this.

    J.... B....

And then Jeff Buckley perfected it.

  15. I.... ....

no it isn't. James Shelton wrote lyrics and melody for this song. but it wasn't recorded. then Hope Foye sung this song in  musical caled Dance Me a Song. Eartha was just first who covered before many others later. (check jeff buckley verson, best one for me)

    I.... ....

Elkie Brooks version is my favourite.

  16. x.... ....

very early version, but not precisely the original. brisalee liriano is correct.

  17. M.... M....

Is so geat! thanks for the upload, remindsme of classic times of course but it also can be a perfect score for a tarantino movie bang bang my baby shot me down kind of song!.. wooo

  18. J.... R....

    Thanks for clarifying.

  19. C.... ....

This is not the original, the original song was a part of a musical called Dance Me a Song and was sung by Hope Foye

  20. M.... C....

    yeah this is the original.

  21. J.... R....

    Is this the original song?
