Earle, Steve - Snake Oil Lyrics
Ladies and gentlemen, attention please
Come in close so everyone can see
I got a tale to tell
A listen don't cost a dime
And if you believe that we're gonna get along just fine
I heard trouble's come to your town
Well I've got a little somethin'
Guaranteed to ease your mind
It's call Snake Oil y'all
It's been around for a long, long time
Say, your crops'll burn if it don't rain soon
Ain't seen a drop since the tenth of June
Well I can open up the sky
People never fear
Well you lost your farm so you moved to town
You get a job, they shut the factory down
Now you sit around all day long feelin' sad and blue
You need Snake Oil y'all, tell you what I'm gonna do
I can heal the sick, I can mend the lame
And the blind shall see again, it's all the same
Well ain't your President good to you
Knocked 'em dead in Libya, Grenada too
Now he's taking his show a little further down the line
Well, 'tween me and him people, you're gonna get along just fine

Great music.steve Earle rocks🤘
Best song ever
I love Steve earl
I know this song was written about Reagan, but you could change a lyric and it would fit Trump just as well.
Ah, but not anyone on the political left? Everything BHO promised, perfectly done. Everything every Democrat Socialist promises, perfectly done. You just like a different flavor of snake oil...
Who else is here from zip ties and bias plies
Stevebis canadian btw!
Steve's from texas, he ran away when he was 16
@Boyd Fischer Didn't leave Texas until he was 19, though, and went back and forth for a while.
I just randomly searched up snake oil and came across this. I’m pretty stoked.
Sounds like the perfect song to start a barfight
"I knew there was a 1st taker on this album somewhere."

Bra musikk
Screw the 21 people who disliked this.
They cansuc itlol
That intro tho
Definitely, the most proper song for Donald Trump's policy!!!
loved his music since childhood
the song is great
Donald Trump's theme song?
Written about Reagan and Bush Sr... but definitely applies today!
It was written as an anti Reagan song.
Evan dear, your taste is all in your mouth. Mr. Earl is legendary.
your a galloot
love it
the drums are the best part
There are some idiots posting on here!!

A very silly, ignorant man,
You are pointless
Fuck Reagan. Dementia patient at the controls of the biggest battleship on the fucking planet... what could go wrong?! It's a wonder he didn't get us nuked.
cool song like it
How did this guy get rich??? I'm guessing investing or something around those lines
It's definitely his songwriting, not his singing. I'm a massive fan so that's not an insult, by any means.
Because he's Steve fucking Earle. Besides being Steve fucking Earle, people have been paying for him to write and cover his songs since the mid 70s. At one point, even Elvis was going to record some of his material before he stopped recording. That's how.
Yes - but drugs, divorces and the genre become more of a niche market means he really is not rich.
Evan Pushie what does rich and good music have in common??? turn on your fucking radio if u want rich he's the FUCKING Earl
Evan Pushie Steve isn't rich he only has about 100 thousand dollars and he is also an Aussie like me
Sound like Obama administration to me!!!
+Joe Dixon He is talking about Reagan and Republican economics.
+darlincommitme imagine a passionate conservative. it's like a Volvo with a gun rack
Pretty much the message of the song... and 20 years later: "Yeah, I realize that ain't exactly democratic, but it's either them or us and And it's the best we can do." I am always amazed about people who are surprised by Steve's politics or think they changed. Were they listening to the songs?
Good dancing music!
Whatever Steve Earle did before or after, this album is epic.
TRUELY EPIC by the echo can be chemically induced ................ or so I'm told Peace out Mongo
The answer to both is herion, but he's better now and still a country legend.

Farkn hey mate. Right on.
(I'm not english but I speak french sorry)
Oh ok sorry my bad!
It's pronounced "Fo", and he wasn't speaking about that, but fox news ^^ (I think)
That guitar intro in the beginning is one of the most righteous and bad ass intros ever recorded. Love that song.

All you have to do is search. Write Steve Earle Nothing But a Child in the box above the video, and then click on the most promising result.
@1946nimrod
Definitely adds a lot to this song!
Love Steve Earles music Does anyone know where on you tube i can find his song Nothing but a child?
Did you find it yet?
@nilradem Just done some research on John Jarvis. The man's got pedigree! Easier to name people he HASN'T played with, going right back to Rod Stewart in the 70s. Respect!
@nilradem Thanks for that but doesn't ring any bells. Got a nice touch on the keys though. Just another anonymous hero of Rock who brightens our lives!!
@1946nimrod
Liner notes says it is John Jarvis. I assume he is a session guy. Never toured with Steve as far as I know.
Chemically induced.
Anyone knows who plays piano on this? It's very like Walt Richmond from The Tractors.
steve earle rocks!!!! no matter what year it is!!!!
Love this!....Piano is awesome....He has S*T*Y*L*E!
@cstreeke Every song of him is awesome! :D
This should be the theme song for the RNC and DNC!
AMEN!!!
Mr Steve thanks for the music.
Jim
@CaNNmaNN420
Steve's written some songs about drugs, but this is not one of them. It is about politicians, and Ronald Reagan in particular, who sell the working class a message that hurts them in the end.
@CrazyBear65
Steve is the first person to say his music - including this song - is political. He would want people to think, and not just assume he is right wing just because he is a "country' artist. I am always amazed at commenters who assume he is a republican or libertarian.
cocaine!!!!!!
Steve I'm coming back to your country again and we are gonna party brother!
Hopalong Cassanova yea name the country Australia
You know when an artist writes great lyrics cause it gets everyone giving there opinions and disecting the song, Steve Earle is no exception!
Wow, man. Good song. I wonder if Steve ever comes on here and reads all the political comments on his songs(?) Well, might as well follow suit, I guess. For anyone who doesn't know it, "faux" means fake, as in Fox "news" is fake, get it? Republicans and Democrats both screw the working man. All professional politicians are full of shit. Tv is nothing but a mind-numbing distraction. The Bilderbergs et al can kiss my Native American ass. There you go, that's my opinion, like it or lump it.
Peace.
@warsaw4201 dude copperhead road is a song about bootlegging moonshine
@Don121772 Amen
fuckin awesome man piano and gutiar is fuck awesome
@slinkie59 Obviously you are spiritually blind my friend... Jesus Christ reigns forever!!! and Fox News rocks!!!!!!!!!!!
And you are a spiritual dumbass
@warsaw4201 another Retug troll and he thinks I'm ignorant obviously has no ideal where the conservative policies have done to America over the past 30 years are so,keep on watching Faux News,ignorance is bliss.
@slinkie59 Well, let me be the first to congratulate you on your choice of language and use of grammer. Since I support everyones right to free speech, even if it comes from; lets say the less educated and I suspect, Pro Choice, Pro Gay Marriage, Pro Gun Control, Legalize Marijuana, Socialist Medicine Supporter, and lets not forget admirer of our Monkey in Chief, Harry Reid and Ditzy Pelosi. I take great honor in responding to you in much the same way you responded to me in saying "FUCK YOU!!!!"
@warsaw4201 you my friend are a fucking idiot America still has not recovered from the butt fucking Reagan gave us.
This is BY FAR AND AWAY my favorite Steve Earle song. That guitar is mesmerizing.
I am a big Steve Earl fan, have been for years. I really appreciate the legacy he presents in "Copperhead Road", and the statement he makes about the difference in the way returning soldiers from WWII v/s Vietnam were treated. My primary disagreement is with his presentation of President Reagan in this song. While he may not have been perfect as no president has been, he was left a dissasterous economy to recover from Jimmy Carters administration. Politics aside, this guy rocks.....
Country music needs more left-wingers like Steve.
what you mean no honors for this video?
this is like porn for your ears
@fabfrith the share button is the same and doesnt take as long to copy
@fabfrith Click on the share button- the code is there.
What the hell happened to the embed codes...lets boycott YouTube until they bring them back!
I knew there was a first taker on this record somewhere!
heaven is like the guitar intro
I am normally a '80's punk rock fan but I like Steve Earle too, doesn't this sound like it should be an anthem for a politician?
its a good song but nothing on copperhead road in my opinion
@stevebkb Tell me about it ive been trying to find some sheet music for it but cant find any and its so annoying cause i cant sus out how to play it lol
I love everything about this song
@stafy3282
Definitely rocks!! I am a HUGE Earle fan, but sometimes think his fans do him a disservice by seeing him as a victim of the music business... the Nashville establishment didn't like him, but I think it is a much more complicated story and I would guess he would agree. I am sure he has lost some support because of his politics, though suspect he lost more by shifting between genres. Yet to diehard fans, that is one of his gifts.
@stafy3282
He certainly stuck to his guns, though I would not go so far as to say that is the main reason why he wasn't more sucessful. I think it was also his refusal to go pop country and, to be blunt, losing 5 years at the height of his career to drugs. The politics didn't help, especially as he became more explicit, but I think a lot of people missed it (as they do with Springsteen.)
The sentiment is like deja vu all over again. The more things change. . .
Folks who complain about Steve getting political in his old age aren't listening hard enough to his older stuff!
my idol
@mirlin235 lol i just used it to wake up too x]] dont know why i used youtube for it but ahh well
its a good song :)
1:15 = lift-off .-)
This song wakes me up in the morning when I have to go too school, its also a great driving song!
