@Brad Jones Not really a rip off. She did take the tune, but not intentionally, and did the right thing by him when it was noticed. He is listed as co-writer and makes money on Kerosene. He was OK with it. He's recorded with her since.

I like this song. Just saying, the verses really remind me of that Godfathers song. It happens. For all I know, Earle never even heard it. Similar phrasing, similar melody, pretty different songs.

Miranda actually looked Steve up and put him on the label as co producer to that song because it sounded so much like his,,, and funny thing is,, Steve said not only had he never heard it yet... but wouldn't of sued anyways because he hated court and suing/ getting sued

I always thought Season 2 was the best, not sure about anyone else..it was a pleasure to watch (as was the entire show)..sometimes I wish I could take a pill to forget this show JUST so I can watch it again for the first time..cheers to all the wire fans..stay blessed!

I heard this song way before " the Wire " was living in Tennessee. Hell, Steve wrote songs for Elvis, what's that tell ya? I was penniless, car broke down, back from the war ( damn VA) , got a newborn kid, old lady bitchin', some motherfucker telling me "Jesus loves me ", ....What came to mind? ( Not the "Old rugged Cross!) .... But this song! There ya go!

He wrote one song which Elvis almost recorded, but didn't write for Elvis. By the time Steve was getting recognition, Elvis was not very active anymore.

He was not successful enough that his fame protected him, and was living on the streets before he got clean.

If you are not currently at Steve Earle fan, 1) I don't know why not, and 2) listen to his show on Sirius XM Outlaw Country and you will be impressed. The man has been in the music industry since he was about 13 years old, and has more bonafide knowledge about music history than most historians, rock and country alike. He didn't read it, he lived it. There is a reason that he is so revered by every other artist in the business. Set aside your likes or dislikes for certain genres and give his music a true listening experience and you'll hear some amazing things.

The Wire was one of the best shows on TV; from the first season to the last. I came to The Wire late and am sorry I didn't give it a chance in the beginning. The Wire showed us both sides of the coin and treated every character as a fully-formed human being. You loved and hated the cops and you loved and hated the criminals. That's real life. You can't ask for much more than that.
