Earle, Steve - Feel Alright Lyrics

I was born my papa's son
A wanderin' eye and a smokin' gun
Now some of you would live through me
Lock me up and throw away the key
Or just find a place to hide away
Hope that I'll just go away
I feel alright - I feel alright tonight

I'll bring you precious contraband
And ancient tales from distant lands
Of conquerors and concubines and
Conjurers from darker times
Betrayal and conspiracy
Sacrilege and heresy

I got every thing you wont or need
Your darkest fear, your fondest dream
I ask you questions, tell you lies
Criticize and sympathize
Be careful what you wish for friend
Because I've been to hell and now I'm back again

Earle, Steve Feel Alright Comments
  1. S.... B....

I mainly listen to hard rock, metal, or punk, but Steve is the greatest of all solo artists ever in any genre !!!...

  2. n.... ....

So this is the song meloncamp ripped off

  3. M.... M....

"Did he have hands? Did he have a face? Yes? Then it wasn't us."

  4. a.... c....

    reminds me of the wire

  5. J.... J....

We used to make shit in this country, build shit. Now we just put our hand in the next guy's pocket

  6. J.... D....

Yea I think steve Earle is my favorite country singer .one day he will be a legend like waylon or willie thank you sir steve for all the awesome music

  7. S.... ....

    Miranda Lambert kerosene

    S.... ....

Yep , wow Steve...seems like another song ripped you off....Steve is the Man

    S.... ....

@Brad Jones Not really a rip off. She did take the tune, but not intentionally, and did the right thing by him when it was noticed. He is listed as co-writer and makes money on Kerosene. He was OK with it. He's recorded with her since.

  8. A.... R....

    Supernatural

  9. B.... D....

    ''College kids ain't shit!!!''

  10. A.... R....

    Birth...work...school...death...

    A.... R....

I like this song. Just saying, the verses really remind me of that Godfathers song. It happens. For all I know, Earle never even heard it. Similar phrasing, similar melody, pretty different songs.

  11. U.... 2....

    This is my jam

  12. P.... P....

    Is this Greenwich village picture

  13. J.... A....

Tout ça pour un Pin's Twix...

  14. M.... H....

Miranda Lambert totally stole this song when she did " Kerosene".

    M.... H....

Supposedly gave half the credit to Steve Earle

  15. t.... m....

Anyone ever notice that this song and kerosene by Miranda lambart sound quite similar

  16. J.... M....

"Forget your high society, I'm soakin' it in kerosene
Light 'em up and watch them burn, teach them what they need to learn, ha!
Dirty hands ain't made for shakin', ain't a rule that ain't worth breakin'"

Those lyrics could fit in right with this song... Miranda?

    J.... M....

Miranda actually looked Steve up and put him on the label as co producer to that song because it sounded so much like his,,, and funny thing is,, Steve said not only had he never heard it yet... but wouldn't of sued anyways because he hated court and suing/ getting sued

  17. E.... G....

I always thought Season 2 was the best, not sure about anyone else..it was a pleasure to watch (as was the entire show)..sometimes I wish I could take a pill to forget this show JUST so I can watch it again for the first time..cheers to all the wire fans..stay blessed!

  18. G.... Y....

Good little song to blast in the car on the drive home after a winter night shift. Gets the juices flowing. Side effect of increased speed and likelihood of collisions though...

  19. A.... V....

    #KarimDebbache

  20. R.... T....

I heard this song way before " the Wire " was living in Tennessee. Hell, Steve wrote songs for Elvis, what's that tell ya? I was penniless, car broke down, back from the war ( damn VA) , got a newborn kid, old lady bitchin', some motherfucker telling me "Jesus loves me ", ....What came to mind? ( Not the "Old rugged Cross!) .... But this song! There ya go!

    R.... T....

He wrote one song which Elvis almost recorded, but didn't write for Elvis. By the time Steve was getting recognition, Elvis was not very active anymore.

  21. G.... M....

    RIP Frank Sabotka

  22. M.... W....

I hope he is doing well , I don't agree with his politics but dann sure like his music!!!

  23. P.... F....

I hurt a lot in my heart

  24. D.... V....

Fucked up a million times and still kept the spirit of real American pride and shame alive and kicking ... he never bit his tongue and called out all the devils

  25. a.... ....

  37. T.... M....

"gotta see that bottom coming up" apologies if it's already been done. What a song!

    T.... M....

If you are more a Wire fan then a Steve Earle fan, you might not know he wrote this soon after he got clean. It is about sobriety and reclaiming a career he had all but destroyed with drugs. He was not successful enough that his fame protected him, and was living on the streets before he got clean.

  38. L.... F....

smoking gun I'm so happy for you and for me that people agree

  39. B.... F....

Why did Miranda Lambert copy this song

  43. j.... C....

My mother embroyred a hat andi through the hat to Steve Earle and he picked it . there's about 100 hats and he picked mine. That was pretty cool. He picked it up and put it on his head. It said bell racing!!! Awesome concert.!!!!!!

  48. K.... K....

Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers and then SPN brought me here.

  49. A.... M....

i feel not alright. Why does YouTube think i would like this song? I'm watching the disgusting news and writing about the satanic pedophiles in England, and Hollywood, and San Francisco, I'm not trying to listen to old crustrock songs. Unless... the two are somehow related. How do they pick these suggestions? I've been researching satanism today, and videos like this one from the royal palace...

    Smells like Cheeseburger"N"Paradise AROUND HERE🎓🌐💪🙏

  58. T.... ....

If you are not currently at Steve Earle fan, 1) I don't know why not, and 2) listen to his show on Sirius XM Outlaw Country and you will be impressed. The man has been in the music industry since he was about 13 years old, and has more bonafide knowledge about music history than most historians, rock and country alike. He didn't read it, he lived it. There is a reason that he is so revered by every other artist in the business. Set aside your likes or dislikes for certain genres and give his music a true listening experience and you'll hear some amazing things.

  59. D.... S....

    Extremely Underrated Artist. Fantastic Songwriter.

  60. W.... H....

It just hit me after listening to this song for years now.... Am i crazy or is he suppose to represent the devil. Listen to tge lyrics once again and tell me if this makes sense to anyone else

    W.... H....

That is the product of a good and prolific songwriter.

  61. f.... i....

    "If u ain't first....ur last". Ricky Bobby

  62. N.... A....

Well I see where miranda Lambert's kerosene song came from.

    N.... A....

In a world of 200+ years of songwriting, all songs come from another song at some point. It's a compliment.

  63. M.... W....

    That looks like New York

  64. G.... ....

The Wire Season 2 is a master piece!

  65. D.... W....

    🇺🇸😎🗽👌🙏💖

  66. L.... W....

Pretty decent actor in my opinion.

Talladega Nights brought me here. Great song. Anyone else hear a slight similarity Kerosene/Miranda Lambert ???

    R.... R....

She acknowledged she copied it unintentionally, and he was given co-writer credit. It is all good.

  72. m.... ....

My addiction is out in the parking lot on steroids doing push-ups...

  73. G.... R....

  75. M.... M....

Steve Earl and the Dukes doesn't get much better !!!

    M.... M....

The current incarnation of the Dukes is significantly better, in my opinion, though I don't think anything on his recent albums matches this for songwriting.

  76. N.... G....

Ricky Bobby brought me here. Love you Steve Earl @~2018

  77. I.... C....

The Wire was one of the best shows on TV; from the first season to the last. I came to The Wire late and am sorry I didn't give it a chance in the beginning. The Wire showed us both sides of the coin and treated every character as a fully-formed human being. You loved and hated the cops and you loved and hated the criminals. That's real life. You can't ask for much more than that.

  78. W.... T....

"I feel alright. I feel alright tonight." I'm mad about Steve Earle --- a voice in the wilderness helping folks understand addiction. I'm listening, Babe. I hope those in power have the wit to do so also. xxxooo

  85. E.... C....

    What a songwriter

  86. l.... b....

For whatever reason missed The Wire when it first aired. The last month? I’ve been catching up. Only Season 5 to go. It’s been funny, harrowing, ridiculous, disturbing and all too human. Damn, get the street to stop being so mean to those who need to be set free from its shackles of violence, poverty and desolation.

  87. J.... A....

just saw Steve Earle last weekend.Amazing show, great American artist.American music at it's best..
