Earl Thomas Conley - Silent Treatment Lyrics
You proved to me that I don't need
To be all by myself to feel alone
But lately conversation only comes
When someone's calling on the phone
Oh, but I'm not asking questions
What's really wrong
You give me that silent treatment
I can take it or leave
I'm getting that silent treatment
And it's working on me
Oh, but leaving off all the changes
I remember back when our love
It didn't hurt
And you'd just lay there begging me
Stay home from work
Now you don't like to talk about it
But lately we've been missing
More than words
I'm getting that silent treatment
I can take it or leave
You give me that silent treatment
And it's working on me
On me, on me, you got it working
Working on me

this song went to #7 on the country charts in 1981!!!
E T C.....WHAT
Brings back memories of Bob Kingsley's country countdown
BAM!!!!!
Earl could sing the phone book and make it a hit. He could never have a bad song!
80s Country Love It !!!
Smoothest there is!
E T C is one of the smoothest there is!
Remember hearing this on KIKK out of Houston TX loved it then love it now ETC you will always be one of my Favorites right up there with Haggard Jones Cash and Waylon.
I love the words 2 this song,......I've been here,.....gettin.that silent treatment......
Being born in the late 70s I can remember growing up to this. This is real country music totally unlike today's "bro country". Think ETC would have ever lowered himself to a pair of skinny jeans like Luke Bryan? I think not
You are so right,if only we could bring back the good ole. days
Luke Bryan embarasses me .....to be a guy ...I am embarrassed for him ....and Kenny Chesney !!! Who needs to walk out that closet !!!!
What a truly unique voice, he can do no wrong in my book!
great song!
great song Luv Etc !!
I was 18 when this song hit the radio. I love ETC's voice. I have several CDs of his.

Does any one know what happened,,I believe Fire and Smoke would be considered his most recognizable song,,..I picked this one up on Guitar ,,Great song,,I let him play on a loop ,,went to sleep,..woke up to Loves on the line,,..to this day I am astonished that his old songs still sound as appealing today as they did back then,,we need him back ,,with what is possibly the most appealing country voice of our time,,..Thanks,,...JSD,..ATP
I have seen him several time's back in the day , I thought he had passed away , until last year , I'm from Kentucky , we have a big event called the Trail Ride, it last 4 days ,people from all over different states come to it an bring horses an so on, they always have different artists to attend it , Well last year was Etc was one of em , He put a show on an he sounded just as good as he did back in the day, Chris Knight was there also but Etc put the best show on, I thought anyways, but yea Etc is a great artist an has a great voice , if u ain't never been to the Trail Ride in Eastern Kentucky, then u mite wanna come to it sometime , lots of fun , lots of food , lots of girls , there's a little lots of everything that goes on...hehe
I love this man, 4-ever!
No matter how you slice it, ETC has the best voice ever.
My favorite ETC song!!
I LOVE THEM ALL!!!
80's country was the best
AMEN!!!
This should've gone to #1.
i'm real good at this silent treatment works great !!!!!!!
Takes me back to '79-'80. I was 27, in my prime, two-stepping my life away.
Meet him in 1996 loved his music
I wish I could dig up his performance on Austin City Limits. Seven different guitar players in his band....soooo good.
was a country music dj in a previous life (sarcasm) this song hit me like a brick wall,we had played some of the "Sunbird" album, but everything after this was just great!
I know about the silent treatment!!
@TheSernaboy ETC is good for sure. I like this song as well as What I'd Say, Fire and Smoke, Holding her and Loving you, and Somewhere between right and wrong. Well, the list can go on and on!
what! I can't believe no one has written anything. Earl Thomas Conley was one of Country music;s biggest hitmakers in the 1980's. I always thought his voice was so husky and just took me to another place. Honorbound is another one of his best hits. If you haven't heard any of his output of music you've missed out.
