Dylan, Bob - Stay With Me Lyrics

Should my heart not be humble
Should my eyes fail to see
Should my feet sometimes stumble
On the way, stay with me

Like the lamb that in springtime
Wanders far from the fold
Comes the darkness and the frost
I get lost
I grow cold

I grow cold, I grow weary
And I know I have sinned
And I go, seeking shelter
And I cry in the wind
Though I grope and I blunder
And I'm weak and I'm wrong

Though the road buckles under
Where I walk, walk along
Till I find to my wonder
Every path leads to Thee
All that I can do is pray
Stay with me
Stay with me

I've been to 5 Dylan concerts, and the last 2 were at the Winstar Casino in Oklahoma. I was offered VIP seats by the casino, and i sat 3 rows from stages, in the center on the row. Perfect seats. At the edge of the stage sitting by itself, was his Oscar from winning for best song 'Things Have Changed' in the movie "Wonder Boys'. . .at the end of the concert, the lights dimmed, and he walked out on stage alone, wearing that white boater hat . . . the spotlight came on, focused on him alone, at the microphone. Then he sang Autumn Leaves and I kid you not. . .the audience was stunned. . .a chill ran up my spine. . . it was perhaps the most awesome performance by a solo performer I have ever seen. The song ended and he took a bow and walked off stage and the crowd went crazy. . it was about a 10 minute standing ovation. Simply incredible. (then I noticed a stage hand run over and grab that Oscar and run shove it into a box. That oscar sat there through the entire concert and I doubt many people noticed it, but I did. It was close enough to the edge of the stage that anyone could have walked by it and reached over and grabbed it. I found out later that he puts it somewhere on stage during every performance, on top the piano or a speaker or just on the floor somewhere. I am truly in awe on him and wish I could see him a few more times before one of us is gone.

Maybe you think that if I decide to stalk someone perhaps I should know them- or at least have some concept of how many albums they've done of crooning- I'm just here to get out of prison myself as well as save history and the world. I just recently spent night and day for over three years chasing thieves and grave robbers, copying photos and taking screenshots of what is being lost. But I should have been listening to this? Seriously I have people who actually need help here- I really don't have the time to be this stupified. But you are lucky Viggo Mortensen's music really is something he should have just kept to himself and I couldn't even play through that Bob Weir solo country album. This is why all my comments there are completely unrelated to the song (unless God made the connection)- because I seriously couldn't stand it. Even this is a grade above that, though still within the Vogon sphere of influence. And no I'm not stalking you nor anyone else if I cannot even tolerate you. I just am pounding on doors for help. There is a difference. Find it. For a rare species I am, not just a common weed. But most people never know what they are looking at in reality, and could step on it and plow it up and burn it- and still be none the wiser.

This verily is a form of torture within itself. Make it stop Bob. Make it stop. And the cut up photo there on the cover makes it look like prison bars. I mean, I'm ready to hang myself here. TURN OFF THE PA!!!

  11. s.... ....

For me, this is the best of all the covers on Shadows, Angels and Triplicate.

  12. f.... ....

His voice is ok for folk rock music. I like the sound of the guitar, though.

  13. J.... F....

This album was recorded by master of producers Al Schmit. Bob wants to use minimum microphones, so he did. He remembered his father (od grand father?) when they recorded in times 1960´ there was only volume knob. So everything must sound together at first time. They didnt use headphones. When Bob needs to hear more guitar, he push guitarist close to him. They recorded in Capitol records where Frank Sinatra recorded (Al Schmitt was there too with Frank). On record he didnt use compressors or effects (only band effects on guitar reverb) and no equalizer. Everything is as they recorded. Band was playing for 3 weeks every day about 2-3 hours and after they record it on maybe one or two takes. When Bob listened his voice he said he didnt hear his voice sound so beautiful for 40 years...

  14. R.... C....

Alex Turners voice reminds me of this

  19. B.... F....

Is this an original of Bob's, or a cover? This kind of tenderness is unusual for him.

  20. R.... N....

oh my god fucking stay with erected my goosebumps..sala he deserved that fucking nobel prize......u r grt bob

  21. c.... r....

Emperor's New Clothes. This is the sorriest shit I have ever heard.

  22. h.... ....

this is a movie theme written by Jerome Morross in the 60s. I liked it a lot but couldn't tell my cool friends (Dylan fans all) Knowing they would think it was cheesy. All I can say now is "Ha"......

  26. t.... m....

What a lovely version. He really does justice to this tune

  27. M.... R....

I was once working an Arby's drive-through lane on Sunset Bl. in Hollywood when I heard this order:

    "I'll have the roast beef
    with some Cheese....
    I'll have the french fries
    if you Please..."

Class permeates all the way to the roots...

  28. F.... S....

I listened this CD over and over again. Just love it. Bob Dylan is the greatest.

  29. C.... E....

Everybody please forgive me since this is the very first BD¨s song I listen to... I have no words, only feelings. Sooo great.

    C.... E....

Hello Carmen ...Welcome to a wonderful world...I too have often only feelings and no words when I listen to Bob's music. You should be aware that this album is cover songs that Bob did not write the lyrics to. The funny thing is that he was just awarded the Nobel prize for Literature. He has written beautiful love songs, powerful protest songs. and just about every thing in between. He has been criticized for not having a classically trained voice but his lyrics are so strong that they usually carry the song. Some songs to check out..Simple twist of Fate..Masters of War..Hurricane..The times are a changing...I'll be you Baby Tonight...If you really want to understand the Nobel prize got to a local music instrument store and pick up a big Bob dylan songbook with a lot of lyrics...Once again welcome to a wonderful world new world of music. P.S. to hear a great example of how strong one of his songs is..Listen to Bob's solo version of All along the watchtower and then listen to Jimi Hendrix play the same song. Everything Jimi does is already there in the Bob version. Jimi just added a lot of great guitar. The chords, the lyrics and the attitude is all there in Bob's sparse acoustic version. Peace to You!

  30. W.... N....

    Yes, it´s great.

  31. m.... ....

Anyone here for the Nobel prize?

    m.... ....

  35. B.... F....

who knew dylan could actually sing . .lol

  36. M.... P....

why am I crying listening to this song?

    M.... P....

Absolutely. ..what a emotional and beautiful song! in My opinion, as good as the Sinatra version !

    M.... P....

Because you hear it from a place that's deeper than where any betrayal or abandonment can leave you, Maria.

  37. R.... B....

    I'm totally depressed by it.

  38. M.... B....

Been a Dylan fan since 1965, but credit where credit is due - Dylan did NOT WRITE this song, it's the instrumental them from the 1963 flick "The Cardinal". Sinatra did it first - and best. Kudos to Bob for recognizing the beauty of this song.

    M.... B....

why are you stating the obvious?

    M.... B....

Because some of the comments were praising Dylan as if it were his song... it doesn't seem as if it were obvious to everyone

    M.... B....

    Indeed. Sinatra's is incredible.

  39. M.... A....

I think he's grown into his voice,,, wow

  40. M.... W....

Is the tempo too slow? A different approach here.

  41. s.... ....

  43. P.... S....

this shows how his music gets always more mature, never older.

  44. G.... M....

    love is suicide!!

  45. G.... S....

    god, so calm..

  46. C.... C....

Bob Dylan has been named the greatest song-writer of all time, and i can see why

  47. L.... ....

The greatest songwriter of our time. He has been on the Cover of Rolling Stone magazine more times than any other single artist and more times than any group during his life. THe last showing was only two weeks ago.

He has more covers by other artists than any other singer-songwriter. And he's still actively writing. I don't know the number of songs he's written, but that number is very large.

You want the best? Get the three CD set, Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, volumes 1 - 3, available at amazon.com. That's a good launching pad.

    L.... ....

Choice of words is what makes a great lyricist. All words have connotations. Bob knows how to use them, but he can hardly sing a note nowdays.

    L.... ....

I dn't think that means much.
In fact, many of those times it had bad critics on them covers.
I don't think heh cares much about that, neither.
In fact, the least relevant thing about the fact that he's so great, are the Rolling Stone covers. And the "record of the week" mentions. And prizes. And honors. And all that stuff.

    L.... ....

Vern Pascal, please you're embarrassing yourself. Noone comes close to the songwriting of Bob Dylan. Some artists are lucky to have a few masterpieces. He has a whole catalog of them. Elvis Costello? Get real for gods sake.

    L.... ....

None of them have won the Nobel Prize. Case closed.

    L.... ....

I'm hoping you all know that Dylan didn't write this song. It's from a film entitled The Cardinal and the lyrics are by Carolyn Leigh with music by Jerome Moross. Dylan is doing it as a tribute to the recording Sinatra made of it years ago. Thanks.

  48. D.... O....

    Come sempre un capolavoro

+Donato Olivieri bella si ma mica l'ha scritto lui, tema dalla colonna sonaora del film to Otto Preminger "Il Cardinale" - molto piu' bella cantata da Sinatra nel '64, sentire per credere!

  52. C.... R....

So admirable. This has more of a religious quality or spiritually. I like this version. It's different from the album. (Maybe the mix) I have truly enjoyed the live versions of these songs also! Thank you, Bob Dylan and his Band!

  69. E.... F....

the cover looks like B Dylan in Jail.
Those who don't like Sinatra will not love it anyway even with all od his efforts to sing decently.

    E.... F....

+Edson F Cordeaca most of you were too young. The song was written by Carolinefor the movie The Cardinal and recorded by Frank Sinatra in 1965. Bob sings the song true to Frank style in commemoration of him. your expectations of Bob are distorted, and because of this you're missing a lot.

    E.... F....

+Don Jay written by Carolyn Leigh

  79. V.... C....

this was the last song he played last night when i saw him. it was the time of my life. he is really a beautiful performer. The harmonica solos in other songs were what really bit my soul. Happy birthday tomorrow, BOB! WE LOVE YOU <3 Austin and across the globe

  80. I.... ....

I just saw him do this song in concert last night, and I have to say it was one of the most emotional, passionate performances I've ever seen live. Gave me chills.

  81. F.... M....

Won't you.. Stay with me.. Cause you're all I need..

  82. H.... ....

P.S.  oh yeah, the game is the same, it's just up on another level.
We now have 12 steps to climb,  I kid you not!

  83. H.... ....

It hit me like a freight train;  the reason  the storm blew and the flood came, which washed the home away.  It was a home we talked about at length and how I loved it.  But as fate would have it, new acquisitions in form of fine art came into the picture.  So, I realized I was left with a collection of the world's finest, which I carried up to the second floor and kept safe all around me in an upstairs bedroom.  I am now challenged with the task of creating a space worthy of housing the museum I will live in.  The house next door was a tear down and is fantastically laid out on the edge of the reeds.  It is only listed for 1.299. #16.  Is their a neighbor who can help with the living museum?  Maybe you have a wife who likes the area?

  84. M.... R....

Saw him live in Memphis last night. He closed with this song. It was so beautiful.

  85. d.... ....

timbo wilderbeeste are you writing about Dylan's stellar performance in Fort Lauderdale?

  86. J.... S....

Prefiero seguir escuchando Blonde on Blonde. Hay quien alaba todo lo que hace Dylan, pero canciones como ésta quedarán seguramente en el olvido, y muy pronto.

  87. S.... B....

So much to say about this song, so much heartache for me of my true love, now forever gone.

  88. J.... O....

    Wow nice~~~♡♥

  89. D.... L....

"It's amazing that someone with such a voice can have such a great career...G-d bless you Bob, keep up the good work!" - said my friend Juha lol

  90. J.... S....

An extraordinary actor and musician named Jared Weiss brilliantly portrays Bob Dylan in one of the most exciting and transformative musicals of the year. It is “Search: Paul Clayton,” which is about the relationship between an early titan of folk music, Paul Clayton, and the young Bob Dylan (formerly Robert Zimmerman), a highly ambitious young arrival in the folk scene in Greenwich Village in the early 1960s. Jared Weiss captures the essence of Dylan without being imitative. He brings to the role an understanding of the famous singer long before he boarded the rocket that took him into the stratosphere of fame and adulation. Jared Weiss, I believe, will become one of the most popular and sought after Broadway stars. His singing and acting put him in  class by himself. Don’t miss“Search: Paul Clayton,” which opens at the Triad Theater on West 72 Street in New York City on May 6. Tickets can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets, and for more information on this dazzling performer and the exciting musical that lights up off-Broadway, visit “Search: Paul Clayton”on Facebook.

(pour "Stay with Me")

Awesome!!!  Just learned today that Bob Dylan and I share the same birth year.  Wonder if he feels 73...wonder what 73 is supposed to feel like. This CD is wonderful.  My husband gave it to me for my birthday.
