Dylan, Bob - Don't Think Twice It's All Right Lyrics

Well, it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
Even you don't know by now
And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It'll never do somehow

When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window, and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm a-traveling on
But don't think twice, it's all right

And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
The light I never knowed
And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road

But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
But we never did too much talking anyway
But don't think twice, it's all right

So it ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
Like you never done before
And it ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more

I'm a-thinking and a-wonderin' walking down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I am told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right

So long honey, baby
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
Goodbye's too good a word, babe
So I'll just say fare thee well

I ain't a-saying you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

There at the base of the cross on the hill at the base of a cliff were the steps to the old sacrificial altar overlooking Mexico City. In front of an old church high in a Peruvian mountain village was this huge flat stone- polished with corners squared. I envision death and ancient sacrifice, and there- right there- was a Christian bastion built everytime. There were important places, powerful places- and the church knew it. In most cases the church built right on top and used any stone for construction too, obliterating the original story or at least badly desecrating it. Purposefully.

Like the church you bards, the musicians are- and long ago the land you are standing on and have built your houses upon was something else was it not? Someplace important. Someplace special. But today you put up your own likeness there? Do you forget how much blood over eons was spilled right here at this very spot? To deny God is bloodthirsty is to continue to fill it's cup.

And whatever happened to the ukulele that was calling my name in Mexico City after looking at so many other twelve and five string wonders? Well, like all things that normally would be simple for most people I've fucked it up and made it harder than it really needs to be. After finding the neighborhood of luthiers in Cusco and walking around Mexico City for a week near a street of musical instruments I decided I needed a hand crafted guitar of some kind. After researching vihuelas and jaranas and finally deciding that I didn't love traditional Mexican music enough for tunnel carpal, I began looking at all the ukuleles I had been seeing in shops instead. Most were imported. Some said "Fender"- who knew they made ukuleles? But after finding one that was made from aguacate and had a cutaway- saying it was calling my name- I found an even fancier one with inlay around the sound hole and a design on the binding that I bought instead.

It was a pretty thing, but upon closer inspection it looked like it had a crack in the neck that had need repaired and a crack in the seam along the bottom. So I took it back since the girl at the counter told me the instrument and the wood itself were guaranteed and was going to exchange it, but couldn't find a ukulele without other problems there that wasn't imported. I wanted my money back- and at first they weren't going to give me it back. All they had for Mexican-made ukes were a couple unadorned ones made from cedar with uneven widths between the strings. I wasn't impressed. They didn't seem worth all the trouble of taking them on the plane. The owner then went to a next door shop and brought back a shiny black ukulele with not a bit of native wood showing in it except the back of the neck and even then it seemed manufactured. Finally after standing around looking at a bunch of six strings and other native guitars for at least ten minutes (however I would have had to pay more money to carry-on the plane, but would have all been better instruments than what I eventually ended up with) I told them I might not get many chances at buying a Mexican instrument and wanted my money back. And in this luthier's shop tucked in the back corner of an art market who had one of the greatest selections of Mexican made instruments for probably at least the last two generations where you can buy striped inlay or exotic wood fretboards for pennies nothing was good enough. And I passed by a five string guitar with the fretboard inlayed all fancy and the top too because I might not be able to learn to play it and it could have been too big for the airplane, but it was a pretty thing for only $200 pesos more.

After getting my money back I went back to the store where the ukulele was calling my name at. It was still there among other better made Mexican guitars that I should have bought instead. But did I?

The one good thing about it is that I got two instrument cases out of the deal- the first I had to purchase and was non-refundable, and the second came with the ukulele, so on the plane ride home it was doubly padded and somewhat more protected. The bad news is that I've discovered a crack on the back - and through it was also guaranteed for a month from the date of purchase- it's tough to get an exchange here in the US. I believe the crack was probably already there and I just didn't notice it (and it's gotten worse in our dry cold air?), though it could have happened in transit too at some point, though I doubt it since I was very cautious, it had a double case and especially since I didn't have any neighbors on the plane or bus and it had its own seat.

But two cracked instruments later, and a realization that the cracked instrument I ended up with is a soprano instead of a concert size which is supposedly better for learning on, and I bought another ukulele online from China. They are all from China anyway- even Gretch- so why not?

The Chinese ukulele was supposed to be delivered here days ago according to Amazon- yet not hide nor hair has anyone seen of it. But not lost across the vast seas of the Pacific nor blown astray by Hawaiian breeze it was, but almost lost in a snowstorm in Osseo Minnesota after being shipped from Pennsyvannia! For three days no one heard from it. I started imagining it falling off conveyor belts into dark corners or off of trucks into traffic and crushed. Amazon tells me, "We're very sorry your delivery is late. If you have not received your package by tomorrow, you can come back here the next day for a refund or replacement." It makes me glad it's not a gift for a child for Christmas.

And what should have taken fifteen minutes at one store has now become this epic saga about the travels of a ukulele that no one has yet to see. But in Kent Washington it was last scanned- at 8:45 PM last night and supposedly it gets here today to the other side of the mountains- not that far as the crowd flies but fairly far for one day mail delivery- or I will get it for free. But you do have to wonder about the stories that ukulele can already tell and how many cracks it will have when (if?) it finally arrives. Cause don't think thrice- twice was already too much! I want to write a song about the free or racing-across-a-mountain pass-in-the-middle-of-the-night-in-a-blizzard ukulele as soon as I learn a couple more chords.

I personally think it's fate and God and the whole thing is ultimately a reflection of what reality really is for me and every time it's fucked up, though it could still end on a good note- like the ukulele actually showing up in the end unscathed and for free- however I still would have paid the unreasonably low price of $67 if the pretty little thing with abalone everywhere, nice wood grain, and and electric pickup has fret ends that are filed and the neck doesn't warp in a year time and the pickup stop working. But at least my expectations are reasonable about the $67 ukulele and you can't expect much more than a $1200 peso ukulele I'd imagine- anything you get from an instrument at that price is a gift from God itself.

tradução - Don't Think Twice, It's All Right

Estou pensando e pensando no caminho
Uma vez amei uma mulher, uma criança que me disseram
Dou-lhe meu coração, mas ela queria minha alma
Mas não pense duas vezes, está tudo bem

    Tanto tempo querida querida
