Dury, Ian - Superman's Big Sister Lyrics

'Till I met her, I thought I knew the answers
I thought a bit of treatment was all a body needs
I'll take you where the haps are
All the handsome chaps are
Squeeze you 'till I make your feelings bleed

She put me right in under fifteen minutes
She could have had my things off, so sadly was I raised
I had a lot to learn, dear
If I'd gone on the turn, dear
It wouldn't be surprising nowadays

You know she's Superman's big sister
Her x-ray eyes see through my silly ways
Superman's big sister, superior skin and blister
It doesn't seem surprising nowadays... yeah!

Superman's big sister
Superman's big sister
Superman's big sister
Superman's big sister
I said she's Superman's big sister
It doesn't seem surprising nowadays

And now I've had the sense to keep her friendship
And though I nearly miffed it in many little ways
The story's got no sequel
'Cos me and her are equal
Is that so surprising nowadays?

Because she's Superman's big sister
Her x-ray eyes see through my silly ways
I said she's Superman's big sister, his grown up skin and blister
Is that so surprising nowadays?

Dury, Ian Superman's Big Sister Comments

I loved Ian’s songs, thought he was great...I’ve just read an autobiography on him. ......it’s not good to speak ill of the dead, but no one had a good word to say about him. It was shocking. Half the people refused to talk to the author so bitter were they. A band member who had lived with Ian’s family for years and was as close to him as a brother wouldn’t give an interview he was so upset at how he had been discarded, he Didn’t want to know. I didn’t know that Chaz Jankel left because he couldn’t tolerate him anymore. Doesn’t stop me loving his music, and in a way it makes him an even more fascinating character. And I’m not speaking ill of the dead, just relating what was in this autobiography, it was an excellent book, well written and comprehensive. It just didn’t hide that Ian had a facet to his personality more pronounced than others....as Alan Partridge summed up in his song..Everyone’s a bit of a cunt sometimes. Ian just forgot about the ‘sometimes’

In this wonderful age of CGI that we all live in, if they were ever to make a film about Ian Dury, they couldn't 'alf go 'n' cast Jeremy Clarkson in the lead role... 'eh?! :P
