Dury, Ian - Reasons To Be Cheerful, Part 3 Lyrics

Why don't you get back into bed?
Why don't you get back into bed?
Why don't you get back into bed?
Why don't you get back into bed?
Why don't you get back into bed?
Why don't you get back into bed?
Why don't you get back into bed?
Why don't you get back into bed?
Why don't you get back into bed?
Why don't you get back into bed?

Reasons to be cheerful, part three
1, 2, 3

Summer, Buddy Holly, the working folly
Good golly, Miss Molly and boats
Hammersmith Palais, the Bolshoi Ballet
Jump back in the alley and nanny goats
Eighteen wheeler Scammells, Dominica camels
All other mammals plus equal votes
Seeing Piccadilly, Fanny Smith and Willie
Being rather silly and porridge oats
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks
Too short to be haughty, too nutty to be naughty
Going on forty no electric shocks
The juice of a carrot, the smile of a parrot
A little drop of claret, anything that rocks
Elvis and Scotty, the days when I ain't spotty
Sitting on a potty, curing smallpox

Reasons to be cheerful, part three
Reasons to be cheerful, part three
Reasons to be cheerful, part three
Reasons to be cheerful, one, two, three

Reasons to be cheerful, part three, verse two

Health service glasses, gigolos and brasses
Round or skinny bottoms
Take your mum to Paris, lighting up a chalice
Wee Willie Harris
Bantu Steven Biko, listening to Rico
Harpo Groucho Chico
Cheddar cheese and pickle, a Vincent motorsickle
Slap and tickle
Woody Allen, Dali, Domitrie and Pascale
Balla, balla, balla and Volare
Something nice to study, phoning up a buddy
Being in my nuddy
Saying okey-dokey, sing-a-long a Smokie
Coming out of chokie
John Coltrane's soprano, Adie Celentano
Beuno Colino

Reasons to be cheerful, part three
Reasons to be cheerful, part three
Reasons to be cheerful, part three
Reasons to be cheerful, one, two, three

What about a, what about a, what about a, what about a,
What about a, what about a, what about a, what about a,
What about a, what about a, what about a, what about a,
What about a, what about a what?

Yes, yes, dear, dear perhaps next year
Or maybe even never
In which case...

Woody Allan, Dali, Domitrie and Pascale
Balla, balla, balla and Volare
Something nice to study, phoning up a buddy
Being in my nuddy
Saying okey-dokey, sing-a-long a Smokie
Coming out a chokie
John Coltrane's soprano, Adie Celentano
Beuno Colino

Did he say sitting on the loo - curing smallpox? Though I never saw him at a gig I did walk past him in a restaurant around 79 /80 and he was with a well dressed guy with two little girls. Probably one of his charities. I knew his music and had a bit of a Cush on him but I was with my parents and grandmother so I was afraid to approach.

  3. F.... E....

However he remembered those lyrics at a gig is praise enough.
He walked the walk and talked the talk.
Thanks Ian I respect the hell out of you RIP

    He definitely saw it coming.

  21. K.... L....

Like wine it becomes better with age especially compared to the manufactured shite they have today where they can't even play an instrument let alone write their own songs. Wonderful Ian Dury and the Blockheads.

  22. k.... 1....

I always loved Ian. How could you not? In a strange and dark way, which Ian would comletely dig, it's probably best that he's no longer on this plane because he would have absolutely SCHOOLED all of these so-called rhyme artists in today's world. What a great big zany mind he had. What he lacked physically, he more than made up for intellectually.

  23. C.... B....

the horns are the reason to be cheerful part 4

Apparently, The Americans invented a system of musical oratory called rapping, how quaint!

    M.... E....

    Oh those Americans!

    M.... E....

dumb thing to say. even wikipedia the cuck site that it is doesn't accredit rap music to america. really low IQ thing to type with so much confidence.

    M.... E....

A thing said in mere jest taken by fools makes you look like the imbecile you are!

  27. R.... M....

  28. p.... ....

after a demmo in london, 3 maybe 4 coach loads of us entered cardiff students union through the giant steel gates at the back, known as the 'tunnel' 'cos we had the key, we walked through the stage door like we owned the place. it was already full to capacity, ithink the support was third world or aswad. everybody, i mean everybody, smoking reefer, Ian Dury blew the roof off, what a night... Ian said that he had been on the road for 20yrs but nights like these make him want to do another 20, with tears in his eyes cos we were all singing along...

  29. i.... n....

  35. D.... B....

God knows we need a few of those right now. RIP Ian. You've gone to a much better place.

  36. a.... t....

English punk influenced way more styles of music worldwide than most people realise, if it wasn't for bands like this we wouldn't of got half the stuff that came out in the early 80s

  37. a.... t....

You can't tell me that the early rapp scene wasn't influenced by Ian's style, he was rapping before there was rap!

  38. C.... H....

Ian dury...one of the biggest and original British musicians ever

  39. c.... ....

Saw you live in swansea, mid 1970s. You were wonderful. RIP dear Ian.

  40. S.... W....

I don't know that we should trust him

    S.... W....

He was a sexual predator who used his disability and his position (as a lecturer in Fine Art at Canterbury College) to prey on vulnerable girls, In former times children born with his disabilities would have been killed at birth

    S.... W....

    I don't blame him though!
