Dury, Ian - Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick Lyrics

In the deserts of Sudan
And the gardens of Japan
From Milan to Yucatán
Every woman, every man

Hit me with your rhythm stick
Hit me! Hit me!
Je t'adore, ich liebe dich
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!
Hit me with your rhythm stick
Hit me slowly, hit me quick
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!

In the wilds of Borneo
And the vineyards of Bordeaux
Eskimo, Arapaho
Move their body to and fro

Hit me with your rhythm stick
Hit me! Hit me!
Das ist gut, c'est fantastique
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!
Hit me with your rhythm stick
It's nice to be a lunatic
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!

Hit me! Hit me! Hit!

In the dock of Tiger Bay
On the road to Mandalay
From Bombay to Santa Fé
Over the hills far away

Hit me with your rhythm stick
Hit me! Hit me!
C'est si bon, ist es nicht
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!
Hit me with your rhythm stick
Two fat persons, click, click, click
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!

Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me!

Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me! Hit me!

Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me!
Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!

so remember this one , still got the vinyl 45 , group recording credit was ''Ian and the Blockheads '' a UK pressing . Was surprised to see Ian Dury died as long ago as 2000 , 19 years ago . Great sound from 1979 when punk was transforming into new wave coming into the 80s , doesn't seem 40 years ago !!

  24. K.... A....

I always loved the way this song began, as if the listener is interrupting a performance just for them...

  38. B.... B....

Every piece of this song is incredible: fantastic tune and lyrics, tremendous bass playing, phenomenal keyboards not to mention great guitar and rhythm section. Faultless really. One of greatest pieces of music from the 70s. Oh, I forgot: what a voice!!!

  50. J.... H....

  51. D.... D....

Ian Dury should have been made Britain's poet laureate. His lyrics are so sublime and sharp.

    D.... D....

    After John Cooper Clarke. Maybe.

    D.... D....

@usandthem73 JCC is number one, Ian burnt out after a few years. JCC is superb. But I love this.

    D.... D....

    Yeh it is good.

  52. B.... D....

  65. p.... ....

Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.

  66. j.... ....

This is one to play at school balls.

  67. M.... E....

    A masterpiece of music!

  68. c.... ....

My mate used to sing chorus randomly at school

  69. J.... M....

is there a better bass line?

  70. V.... M....

How many people back in the day said,”I am a blockhead”.??

  71. J.... ....

If you don't like or don't 'get' Ian Dury and the Blockhead's stuff; then it's a pity. Memories of crowded dark hot rooms full of your 'friends' partying, boogying, nice bit to drink and 'New Boots and Panties bashing out at very high volume on a big wattage HiFi. Maybe it's not of this era with all it's samey, generic pop 'music'.

  72. S.... M....

Fantastic song with the best bass line ever.

  73. O.... S....

It made them some decent money .released at the end of November 1978 ,it reached no 1 at the end of Janurary 1979 , after being held at number 2 for 3 weeks by The Village Peoples Y.M.C.A .At a time when records often went in the charts high or straight to number one a slow burner sold more copies .

  74. S.... ....

Jazz, funk, disco, salsa and da da lyrics-wonderfull combination ,thanks to the oddbods and the lunes, magic!!!!!

  75. T.... ....

The Norman Watt Roy rhythm stick is sick

  76. S.... Y....

    Here because of Dublin Murders

  77. A.... L....

I never heard of these fuckers....I am a N.Y city lad...This I was told of their big hit...THIS FUCKING SUCKS....

  78. J.... B....

    Einfach nur GEIL!!!

  79. J.... A....

Ian's brilliant , clever lyrics and the Blockheads astonishing music were a marriage made in heaven and make today's synthetic offerings sound bland and lifeless.

  80. T.... S....

I thank david Tennant or doctor who for introducing me to this song

  81. L.... M....

I went to see Wilko Johnson at the Sir George Robey in Finsbury Park back in 1985 when I was 18 and his bass player was Norman Watt Roy and I couldn't take my eyes off his bass playing - I was transfixed! Didn't know of him before that night as I was a little bit too young to appreciate Ian Dury and the Blockheads (although both my brothers were big fans) in the late 70's. The guy's a legend!

  82. M.... B....

Asked about his lack of popularity in the US: "I was nev' much for the colonies..." Thumbs up if you think this was one of the best interview replies ever!

    M.... B....

    Fucking Brilliant!

    M.... B....

@Dave Coalwoodfucking ace a master quality 100 percent never to be forgotten RIP xxx

    M.... B....

Ha ha. Never seen interview but, i can well imagine.RIP Ian.x😂😂👍

  84. E.... o....

Don't hit him! No fighting !!

  85. W.... C....

This still sounds as amazing now as it did when it came out total classic.

  86. R.... D....

2:16 - 2:24 best part. Love it. Thumbs up if you also.

  87. V.... ....

"...over hills, and far away..." Fantastic stuff!

  90. C.... D....

Norman Watt-Roy on bass ? Does it get any better than this? Hit me...

  91. Y.... ....

My dad used to say that the Blockheads were one of the best backing bands on the planet and combined with the great Ian Dury and this is the result

  92. C.... v....

still the tightest backing band ever had the pleasure of seeing the blockheads live earlier this year so dam good rip Ian

  93. X.... B....

is he not the bestest bassist ever?

  94. r.... t....

    r.... t....

TOTALLY AGREE. Doesnt do them jytice no wher close.x

  95. P.... K....

Apparently my Aunty used to sing-along to this song when she was 12 years old - concerning my grandparents at the time.

    P.... K....

haa no problem got the single at age of 11 when it first came out southall market 45rpm scarred for life not in any way no snowflake here

  96. k.... p....

Heard Elton John say Ian Dury had some of the finest musicians with him, must of meant the Blockheads. High praise indeed.
