Duran Duran - Shadows On Your Side Lyrics
Shackled and raised for a shining crowd
They want you to speak but the music is louder than
All of their roar with the heat of the planet's core-but
[CHORUS]
As soon as the lights go down
In the darkest place you can find
You belong to the hands of the night
Promises made with a distant friend
Truth should be known it can only bend
To a tune of its own
Hey you'll never hear that voice again
Scandal in white on a tangled vine
With everybody to say that you're having the
[CHORUS]
Spinning a compass to choose your way
You can run you can dive you can stand and you can soar
Whichever way you can be sure-that
[CHORUS]
Shadows on your side
The shadows are on your side

Duran Duran Shadows On Your Side Comments
John Taylor must have been demon possessed when he came up with this amazing Bass Line!!! Man, this track's incredible!
I love this Song so much. I remember I got this tape in 1983. Wonderful music Wonderful era. Miss 80s DD. They were VERY good.
great song great voice love the band that is duran duran x
This is my favorite song on this album and one of my favorites of their songs in total.
"Scandal in white on a tangled vine with everybody to say that you're having the time of your life when your life is on the slide"
I love Duran Duran (John Taylor)
So my song.....
It's dragged me to my childhood.
Love duran, love this song. One of their best i think.

criminally underrated!
Música linda
Is it me or do i hear Bolero?
BEST. DURAN. SONG. EVER.
I've listened to this 7,238 times and it still makes me shudder. They did this live not so long ago and it was awesome. Check link: https://youtu.be/yjqh-fKa0P0
This should of become the fourth single video of the album.
This needs over 1000 likes
I remember buying this album in the summer of 1984 at the Evergreen mall in Chicago, IL. Lost the album in a car accident along with all my other Duran albums. Today I recovered 2 of them, the 12 inch single of The Reflex and Seven and the Ragged Tiger
Sad Evergreen plaza gone I'm from Chicago
John Taylor's a fantastic bassist
uh uh uh <3
The more I think of it the more I`d say what a DAMN good bands there were in the 80`s! And DD was just one of them. Had this album on vinyl and played it to death on cassette on my walkman. Such a masterpiece! I`m so glad I grew up in the 80`s compared to the crap they listen to today.
I really am not a fan of this album (think it's the worst they've ever done besides Red Carpet Massacre), but I really love this song and a couple of others. Most of it is really bad. Simon whines throughout the record.
My favourite song in this album.
the quiet reflective moan 2 minutes in.. when it's happening inside
Interesting song. Listening to the arrangement it is somewhat discernible that this song could have been worked a lot better to give it more power and thus turning it into a hit. Production values weren't too strong in this one either. But again you can hear the potential it had. I wish I was there with them when they wrote this. Even Nile Rodgers could have worked his magic on this one.
Simply EPIC !!! 🖤 ❤️ 🖤
Plz dont stop💗
endless greatness
from being A kid,the shadows are on my side, duran duran said so
Great teamwork!
Por quéeste tema nunca sonó el radio con esa polenta..
הלהקה הכי מהממת שהייתה
If I had an anime series for my secret nightly superhero alter ego, this would be the theme song.
There are songs that i know by rote, i had listen hours and hours, days by days, songs that i have listen maybe thousand times in 37 years
I feel you! Me too. :)
1.50 to2.04-exquisite.
That's a delicious piece into a totally mesmerizing song. I wonder how they came up to such a crispy and pure guitar sound, simply amazing still nowadays!
Great Song!!!!
Elisa Benalcazar you look like a duran Duran model Elisa very beautiful x
Davied lebonnie7 thanks 😊
Elisa Benalcazar That's ok ! You got the wow factor ! Love Duran Duran all my life 😍😎🤣
Ninjas???
Heard this in late 1984 when I bought the cassette which I still proudly own to this day! One of their best tunes!
my sister gave me hers.
Me he enamorado.
this fucking cool harmonic orgasm in the ears
yes! the duran harmonies are unlike any other
i m afraid not , obvious incluences are Roxy Music, Japan , Ultravox
@alejandro rodriguez obvious influences in a lot of different ways. but the actual sound of their harmonies specifically is the sound of a very distinctively voiced Simon harmonizing with himself.
Alex Sadkin restless work broke down Duran Duran but gave us a jewel with endless facets to discover at each and every audition, with amazing choruses, great bassline, crystal synth & guitar sounds and an unique masterpiece overall.
@sfrenato It is very beautiful and cinematic! True Genius! What else has Alex done?
@sfrenato I'm sorry to learn that again. I think my teenage brain remembered learning of this but my appreciation for Duran Duran and many of the artists Alex produced lived on and on. So I remember his name but not all that happened.
"Sadkin died in a motor accident in Nassau at the age of 38, shortly after completing production work on Boom Crash Opera's eponymous 1987 album, and just before he was due to begin working with Ziggy Marley. The songs "Do You Believe in Shame" by Duran Duran, "Gone Too Soon" by Robbie Nevil, and Grace Jones' "Well Well Well" are all dedicated to his memory. Also Joe Cocker's album Unchain My Heart (1987) is dedicated to the memory of Alex Sadkin."
@sfrenato Shadows on your Side and Cracks in the Pavement and 7th Stranger are some of my favorite tracks. I have enjoyed/ "studied" this album over many periods in my life. I remember when I was in Jr. High and my parents rented a cottage in a beautiful location on the beach, high up in the trees. It was a very beautiful spot but very bland too.. remote from friends etc. This album was a very good friend to me.
Alex Sadkin also produced the "So Red The Rose" album by Arcadia. On the Arcadia album these sonic ideas were further explored and developed.
@sfrenato awesome comment and info! Thanks for recognizing seven and the ragged tiger as a masterpiece I believe it is!🐅🔥🎶
I grew up in the 80s and didn't get to hear this song till about 4 days ago , I bought 7 and the ragged tiger for 5 bucks in the Wal Mart cd bin lol I had only heard Duran Duran on the radio and vh1 /MTV . This is my favorite Duran Duran song on what is a very underrated album . p.s. watch out for the lizard mixture .
+Randy Jones
Welcome to the greatness that is DD in the 80's. So much for a "boy band" huh?
@Bob Dreamzzz I never really thought of Duran Duran as a boy band since they all play their own instruments . A boy band to me is a band that has 4 or 5 vocalist or dancers with the real musicians in the background . My sister was a teenager in the 80s and she liked Michael Jackson and Eddie Rabbit lol
Randy Jones DD has been my favorite band since I was 11 years old. I'm now 45. Still listen to them on Pandora daily & I've seen them twice in concert. JT's bass playing is the best there is.
Holly Muir I am the same...since 1982.
@Randy Jones: I don`t know how you came up with the fact that this album is very underrated but that`s totally not true! Was a huge success in the 80`s. :)
It could be a better single than The Reflex.
Yes. Interesting idea.
Quero esse album
right at 3:12, I love how Simon's voice sounds
My fav song on the album. The mental visuals are a blend of Hungry Like the Wolf and 007. This song needed a video so bad!
Would it involve ninjas?
Let' shoot one ourselves!
A rather sad and wistful song, but this has to rate as their best bass playing. Simons voice and Johns bass - simply incredible. Why on earth could they not sustain for the rest of the 1980s?
+Kaushik Ganguli Agreed. The album wasn't as in your face as the first two but this is one of their dark songs, and yes, it's one of the best of the first 3 albums. I was 15 that winter and got the song's mood.
+Noodles37UK I was 14 that winter so yes can identify. got up at 3 am to listen on radio australia
I find it happy and wistful at the same time
Ha ha Christopher, that's funny! Duran Duran Ninjas!
+Nancy Jayne Hard to associate the song w/ ninjas but I guess anything is possible lol
❤️XXXOOOXXX❤️
If you can play this on bass you know what you are doing.
It's not easy. Even John had trouble picking it back up a few years ago after not playing it for so long. A youtube bass instructor, Zuma Arechiga , does a lesson on it. Zuma went to a book signing and met John, and after talking , it got around to this song and Zima's cover. John ended up using Zuma's lesson to get back in form for it. It really is a demanding song, and for decades John"s bass playing morphed to more pocket playing so other than the standards that he normally played, he didn't play much else of the old material. If you're a bass player, check Zuma out. I can tell you I'm no John Taylor, not close, but even stuff I wrote 25 years or more ago I have a lot of trouble with simply due to not playing it and my groove sort of changing, not feeling or hearing things in the same way.

Tivroc Saig thank you for the visial lyrics
thanks! :) my and my friends are making a band called snakes of the union... got any album name ideas??
Cool song and it was cool meeting my hero John Taylor in person at Bristol Farms Hollywood! @86InstantClassic if you're going to spout things at least get it correct ... the Seven of Seven and the Ragged Tiger were the 5 band members and their 2 managers - the Berrow Brothers (Paul and Michael)
Whenever I hear this song, I think of ninjas for some reason.
+Christopher Malone me too
This song makes me think of "Jack the Ripper"
Although I do know the true meaning of this song has something to do with the dark side of fame.
makes me think of the chase on Coruscant from Star Wars.. just the futuristic city and the intensified beat...
the bass patterns are amazing in this track!
+LCMemphis/TCity Productions I think the production may have let an otherwise brilliant lp down here. I love Tiger Tiger.
LCMemphis/TCity Productions JT is such an underrated bassist.
John Taylor is the best bassist!!!
so right , i play bass in couple of rock bands here in Sydney , our keyboarder player suggested i listen and play this , amazing bass line , so textured
I love the production. Beautifully slick
B面!でも大好き!
I really like Duran Duran
Still going strong, even these days of mine. For ove 20 years and still feeling DD! <3
Seventh Stranger as good now as it was 30 yrs ago AWESOME
The keyboards & bass in this song are just in lockstep playing off each other very well. One of my favs from DD!
Best song on the Album, along with seventh stranger ...
This is one of the best songs on Seven ...!!
D2 can do no wrong. Love them forever! ♥
What a BRILLIANT SONG! This song brings me to buy this Album ^_^
I didnt hear this song yet..what is all about?
@Nerisa Rodriguez i feel it's about the life of a popstar...about the feelings and emotions, about fear and relationships :)
Ok.sounds interesting..thanks
fizeram parte da minha infancia
"Rio" soared to such stratospheric heights that it is so revered, within the Duran Duran catalog and surely the broader scope of popular music. However, "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" is vastly underrated, in my opinion, boasting songs with tremendous depth. It was so moody and atmospheric. I remember being so taken the first time I heard "The Seventh Stranger." Still sounds so fresh. Same for the forgotten "Tiger Tiger" instrumental.
And yeah, John Taylor played like a boss.
Yes I love this album too! I I used to own it on cassette! Played the hell out of it on my killer boom box! Couldn't get enough of this album! Sure do miss 80's music!!!!
he sure did, man... seventh stranger brings me to tears with memories...
Yep, Tiger Tiger is breathtaking. Love it!
J Taylor,The bass player was a God 80s music was so complex.
is that ennard!? yessss
JT is a modern day God!!
@galen marick yes!!!
So much underrated song, what else can somebody say? Anyway, fuckin great, and bass line John Taylor creates...Well, Yeah...!!!!!!
happy 30th anniversary of this album. aging so well, just like DD!
When I first heard the album (late 1983 on LA's KROQ), this was my favorite of all the songs. I always wanted them to release it as a single and make a video.
John, play that fuckin' bass
I still have this cassette in my car and I still listen to it. I think it is a great album and Reflex is most certainly not weak. It is a great song.
Also, yes it is my favorite song from 7 and the ragged tiger,Duran Duran at their best here!!!
All time classic!
This song would have made a KICK ASS video, too bad that they didnt play it in Arena!
How can you say Reflex was the weak link in this album! It was their last UK No 1 in March 1984. The weak link was the instrumental 'Tiger' which was rather wishy washy. This song is so touching, poignant and somehow captures Fab Five at their peak...........
This was my fav from the album. Had such a nite sound they did....
my favourite too
Mine too! It was so annoying. The Reflex (which was the weak link on this album IMO) ... perfect. This track (which is one of the better DD tracks) skipped everywhere.
its always been my fave Duran song...a rare gem!
good choice!!
one od my faves!=)
I have never heard anyone cover this bass groove. Taylor was the best!
Execlent,be proud to post.
...BUT overwhelming great songs on it!!!
My first album xx
Duran's finest.
This is Duran Duran 1983 : )
Shadows on Your Side love it
Because at the time, they were very stressed and forced Andy Taylor to play in that work. Roger Taylor hated to be followed everywhere by fans, while Andy and John loved that kind of things. Think about the title: 7 =the guys + the producer. The ragged tiger = the success that was eating DD. Thanks God, they still togheter and they are absolutely one of the greatest band on the music industry nowdays.
why do you say they didn't want to do it?
my band 4ever!
To be an album that the guys didn't want to do it's awesome. Great song and great John Taylor as usual.
john taylor simple the best!!!
