Duran Duran - Pop Trash Movie Lyrics

Saw a close up of your pretty face
Overnight sensation
Smiling for cameras
From all around the world
If I rewind back to yesterday
And stop the tape there
No one knew who you were
But now they're at your door

I'm living in a pop trash movie
We star together in every scene
We'll all be famous for just a few minutes
Part of a celluloid dream

Watching slow-mo going frame-by-frame
Might have blurred my vision
Your life went flashing by
Where did it all go wrong?

I'm living in a pop trash movie
We star together in every scene
We'll all be famous for fifteen minutes
Part of a celluloid dream

I'll wait in the wings for you
I'll read your lines to you
But now the script is final you know, it's time to go
So we'll have to say goodbye

I'm living in a pop trash movie
We star together in every scene
We'll all be famous for those fifteen minutes
Part of a celluloid dream
We star in every scene
And it's never quite what it seems

(Never)

I'm living in a pop trash movie
I know we'll make it with that pop trash - yeah
We'll all be famous for those fifteen minutes
Part of a celluloid dream, yeah

Brilliant track from a brilliant album.
Pop Trash should have sold by the bucket load's.
Duran should have made a financial killing from this album.
At least they put it out there anyway, for us die hard's to enjoy back when it was first released.
    Still enjoying it now !!!

COULDN'T. AGREE. MORE. It's all timing. If it was 1981-1985 it WOULD sell like it should, but while decent artists like them keep growing and improving while others are long past their best (yes YOU Dep Mode, Pet Shop Boys etc. all those critically revered bores), it never reflects logic or common sense. Crap was the order of the day in 2000-as it was for the past decade and worse with every year since this fantastic album's release, so it wouldn't get a look in.

Duran's excellent career is condensed into 'easy pleasers' for the difficult and boundary pushing surprises that either astound straight away or bemuse initially until you understand sometimes way on down the line what they meant and then you can really love it. And this album, including "Big Thing", "So Red The Rose", "Liberty", and "Red Carpet Massacre" all fall into this latter and very rewarding category, now we're all older and wiser. Thanks Duran for being one of the very best and SO NOT what your pathetic critics all whined about through the decades! Yet they let the likes of Slagdonna, Michael Jackson, Sting, Weller, Collins, Cure, Madness, Minogue and others go by without a single slating, when it's really ALL they deserve!

@Kyach Distent Great comment. I WORE OUT "Big Thing". It was fantastic. The album cuts were better than the single. And the stiff on it was ahead of the curve. A lot of the experimental songs on the album were the same as what was huge on the radio throughout the 90's. So , I'm at a loss as to why that album wasn't a monster like it should've been.

@Jeremy Sears The only pitiful reason is that people drop decent people when it's not 'in' to like them any more. For me, Duran's 3rd album is by far their weakest but is treated as the top product it isn't simply cos it was done in their "to be admired period as they'd just come out, hadn't split and could be filed under good teen band.' The reality is most of their awesome records are all the ones ill treated that I've mentioned. Even the beautiful radio-friendly yet intelligent, classic and brill album "Notorious" isn't treated as it should be. Great to hear you wore "Big Thing" out. Now that's how you treat a record. I also love, how, like other awesome 80s people ignored like Kim Wilde, Alphaville, Sandra, Bangles and the like, Duran were albums people where many of their stuff sound like singles. They got the singles right from "Big Thing" BUT that doesn't change the fact they get too few releases an album. Like those I just mentioned, they should get at least 5 singles an album. Utter shit like Madonna, Minogue, Houston, Dion and all the crap of today do. Irrelevant stuff like Michael Jackson, Tina Turner-all the unimportant fluff people treat like gods!

It’s a shame this album didn’t sell so well. Much like the other ones I’ve heard, it’s just as great as the other works of art the best band in the world put out there.

This one came out the same year I was born, so I think that’s special for me. My thought was “My favorite band had an album that came out the same year I was born!”

    ❤️😊❤️

Same here bud, Duran Duran from 2000 onwards isn't appreciated, it's a shame they get crucified and pandered for experimenting with their own sound, but I might be bias because I love all their albums.

They formed the same year I was born. 78. They are golden for me as well.

I really like the melody especially the beginning. The notes in the vocal have an interesting relationship. I've always enjoyed DD's music. I confess that this is the only album I didn't check out by them, and I'm glad I'm hearing it now at lest. These guys always find a unique sound. They shouldn't be so hard on themselves and 'trash' this album. It is very creative. Bands in general need to be fearless like this. I applaud DD here. Albums like this help them to keep their creative edge, even when they bring some of these ideas back to their pop material.

Totally agreed. A wicked album. Came to it late myself. Beats the hell out of their weakest period-1983's "Seven Ragged Tiger". People pretend it's better than it is just cos all 5 were together, but it was rushed, overworked and little inspired. This just rocks. I love them best when they experiment-never been afraid to do it, even if certain segments of the audience never gets it.
