Duran Duran - Medazzaland Lyrics

(Oh, Medazzaland)
I have a problem, they said they can solve
Soon I won't speak
I have no words left in me
I dream in pictures
But the sound is muted
I have no way to understand what they say
(Into Medazzaland)
People are starting to talk
But I don't hear them anymore
Now I can't see
But I am still able to think
Do I have any feeling left?
What are they saying about me?
Do they really understand what's wrong?
I feel their hands on my skin
The time has come for them to begin
I'm sinking deeper and deeper
Into Medazzaland
I can feel the scalpel on my skin
It's cutting in
Deeper and deeper
I'm in Medazzaland
(Oh Medazzaland)

I'm definitely in the minority here, but this is my favorite Duran Duran album of all time! Love everything about this album, it's a masterpiece!

I found this tape tossed in a supermaket 21 years ago. I took it home, didn't know was a new DD album since no song ever sounded in Mexico radio stations. After spotting no John Taylor and disliking the first seconds of Medazzaland I felt very dissapointed and tossed it for a half year. But I gave it a chance....and what a jewel !! It's one of my favorite DD records. Makes me feel like listening Arcadia. Hope they could play it live but seems like without Warren that looks very difficult

An album written when Duran were on the verge of ending .... down to two... Simon was struggling to write ....John was gone .... a big loss in terms of tempo... ... but out of it . ...they still produce a great album!

    d.... ....

Iv been afan from 1980 i first heard Planet Earth Duran Duran in work it sounded amazing couldnt wait to see them on top of the pops on Friday evening i was blown away they just weren't agreat band but incredibly good looking. I thought Simon just didnt only have a lovely voice but the most handsomest man on earth. There the most underrated band in my generation, i knew away back then they had something unique and therapeutic in their music one of the best live bands out there and still going 40plus years they have proved alot off sceptics wrong over the years.Believe me Duran Duran will go into the history books as the longest running band in history as they have no plans in retiring anytime soon!!!!!Cant wait for the release of their new album in 2020 brilliant.

  20. R.... S....

One thing I really appreciate about this band of all is that they never stopped using similar sounds that they’ve used since 1981. Even as the years went by with changing genres, they still found a way to fuse the sound with what genre they were working with.

I think that’s why some artists I really like from the ‘80s failed as the years went on because they dropped the sound that made them popular in the first place. Despite that I like a few albums from those other artists despite the genre change. The best example for me is Kim Wilde. No matter what genre, she still kicks ass vocally.

  21. T.... C....

This is just another experimental and avant-garde effort like "Big Thing" and "The Wedding Album". Brilliant album from start to finish, very underrated and overlooked. Not powerful and solid like "Astronaut" or the last two works (AYNIN and "Paper Gods"), but still a fantastic record - as well as "Pop Trash"!
I would say that this album is very "intense" and "absorbing". Well done, DD.

  25. T.... A....

One of their best albums. Anyone else get Nine Inch Nails vibes from Be My Icon?

  26. C.... P....

    Hallo Simon Lebon Pucci Cinzia💖💖💖💖

  27. D.... B....

This album is so good! You can hear how 90s and experimental it is, but they still know what they're doing. Such amazing songs, both the slower ones and the faster as well. I wouln't think I'll ever like any of their newer albums, but here I am, being IN LOVE with this.

  28. C.... L....

This album is not really “experimental” as some have mentioned. Listen to the half-dozen or so albums of the Warren Cuccurllo era; this is a very good example of their sound at that time. They were always “experimenting”, really- it’s part of the bands lasting appeal. I think it’s a beautiful, well-crafted effort, and it probably would have charted and sold well had they released it after the Wedding Album rather than Thank You. They were enjoying a massive resurgence at that time fueled by the amazing success of Ordinary World on the charts. For the follow up to ‘Wedding’, they released Thank You, an album of covers which nobody wanted to hear from this band. It was really disasterous, and the utter lack of interest in the album basically killed the renewed popularity. By the time Medazzaland came out, the general public were over Duran, as they had been when Liberty came out. It’s a shame, and again, I think It would have done way better than Thank You, and may well have preserved the fickle interest of the listening public as the 90s progressed.

  29. A.... R....

    love this album..awesome

  30. G.... X....

I like Duran so-so. Some songs a lot, some songs from different albums, some songs i can't stand.
I'm more into heavy rock/ metal, but i have to say i really like this one. Probably my fav of the band.

  31. P.... M....

    Great album!!

  32. J.... L....

Electric barbarella is the 1st song DD wrote since S&TRT that is essentially their unique sound, getting back to basics away from tne weird experimentation and writing great pop songs with panache

  33. C.... S....

During a very dark and angsty period of my life, I found this album and it was how I got into Duran Duran’s other work. However, the lyrics on this album really spoke to me personally and it will always remain a favourite. When I listen to it now all these years later and as a growing musician, I can hear they drew all kinds of inspiration into this album. Some of the songs give me a very Gary Numan type vibe, as some of his work in the 90s had that grungy type industrial feel to it. 💜

    C.... S....

    Hope you be fine now

  34. R.... ....

I consider "Midnight Sun" to be the best track.

  35. j.... g....

  36. R.... ....

33:45 Written for Mike Hutchence and released before he died. They pulled it from the tour as LeBon couldn't sing it.

    My favorite Duran Duran album!

  40. F.... R....

Disco foda, ainda tenho em CD comprei 5 meses depois que saiu e ainda escuto canções como "Buried in the Sand" e "Out of My Mind" totalmente Obscuras, esse disco e o POP Thrash são únicos.

  41. p.... s....

Great album it deserves to be reedited in CD and to be available in Vynil. (5 stars)

  42. c.... ....

I'm so excited to find this here...I adored this album when I was 17, it was stolen from my car 6 years later, and now it appears to be out of production. But it's here! Thank you so much!!

  43. m.... ....

Such an underrated album! awful cover/sleeve art though, sorry guys ;)

  44. f.... ....

i think this is a strong album, experimental, grunge, contemporary yet.

  45. P.... C....

This album...ON the serious...Saved my life...

  46. H.... ....

This is an amazing album! This is one of my favorite albums of Duran Duran!

  47. S.... ....

According to the cover, Duran Duran is back to being a five piece band. Le Bon, Cuccurullo, Rhodes, Rhodes and Rhodes.

Nick makes better decisions than John "sellout" Taylor and Simon "popularity" Le Bon anyway.

    S.... ....

I think they should get Warren back in and kick John out. John is responsible for both Warren and then Andy's dismissal. As they continue to make awful music with their modern line up.

  48. S.... ....

I would prefer this album with the addition of Ball and Chain and the removal of Big Bang, Who do you think you are and Undergoing treatment.

  49. L.... Z....

I love Duran Duran, but when I saw them at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin I believe in the 1990's. Any how it appeared Simon was drunk off his ass. Unfortunately that was the most memorable part of it, since couldn't remember the words, there wasn't much to hear. He kind of slopped his way through it.

  50. A.... ....

l love this album... Sometimes I do feel they stray into the glam rock which is a little annoying tho..( who do you think you are).

  51. R.... ....

Yes OoMM is the best song but EB is very Duran too and catchy. Perhaps the video or the times didn't fit....

  52. S.... f....

Wow, Nick Rhodes on lead vocals!

  53. O.... Z....

Out of My Mind the best Duran Duran song from this album #TheSaint #Soundtrack Film

    J.... ....

    Love this album

  58. T.... ....

Isn't it strange, during the 80's as I was growing up, I hated this band, probably because of all the little girl Duranies, as they were called back in the day, were getting screamy and gushy over the band, and I never paid attention to their music. Having revisited their work over the past few days, I become suddenly aware of how talented, creative, innovative their music was! And like Depeche Mode, they have just got better and better the longer they have been out there. This is an excellent album! As is 'All you Need Is Now' and 'The Wedding Album' and also 'Notorious' which I really didn't like years ago.

    T.... ....

I totally agree..! I'm a DM lifelong fan and I've always quite liked Duran and only ever bought the wedding album. My view is they're pretty Damn ace..mind you tho I think they have done as many drugs as DM have having read their biography!

    T.... ....

John taylor was a coke head , im both DM and DD fan and i dont know what i will do if they are not aroundill go crazy. One thing good about both of these bands is that their albums come out one after another so in 2015 we had paper gods now Dm is releasing their album in 2017 yay!! victory

    T.... ....

Just my opinion here but I find that anything Nick Rhodes does away from the band or with little input from the other members (the title track here, The Devils, and TV Mania) is always a lot creative than the DD projects.

    T.... ....

@Scott Black Cycles Nick Rhodes is and always will be a perfectionist he was that way back in the 80s. They took there time with all there videos none of them were cheap at all. The bad always went all out for everything they did because really of Nick but Simon -Roger & Andy Taylor when he was still with the band always put there music ahead of all JMO. John Taylor was the party boy to be honest but I love them all always will did when I first heard them and I am now 51 yrs old still always will be a Duran Duran .

  59. A.... C....

DuranDuran e a maior banda de rock de todos os tempos!

  60. B.... K....

    This is a masterpiece !

    B.... K....

    It sure Is :)

  61. R.... G....

It only makes sense that they would have a song with the name barberella in it considering the bands name

    R.... G....

They took their name from that movie.

  62. T.... ....

This album reminds me a lot of Big Thing, partly because of its experimental nature, and partly because there are some interesting deep tracks in the second half (Palomino and Land on Big Thing, Be My Icon and Midnight Sun on this).

    T.... ....

+TanzDerSchatten Agreed those tracks are some of my favorites and reason this is one my favorite albums. Be My Icon is in my top 5.

  63. T.... K....

esse disco e o pop trash é pica

  64. J.... I....

"Out Of My Mind" beautiful song.... I had my own video in my head for it

  65. J.... I....

oh...I'm still upset I was at work the night these guys were at The Electric Factory on this tour... at least I think they were there.... Philadelphia.... anyone here was there?

  66. p.... ....

It was really good so far...then tracks 5 &6 happened. 7 is really good. hope the album doesn't dip again.

  67. C.... G....

Big Bang Generation, Electric Barbarella, Ouf of my Mind and Be my Icon where the absolute best of this album. Very traditional Duran Duran, I've followed them from album 1 so, I should know. The rest of the tracks were experimental and went from left to right field which is ok, the band expands and shifts in taste as does the rest of the world.

  68. B.... F....

Terrific album by a terrific Band!!! Thanks so much for sharing this with Us!😊

  69. E.... F....

    Midnight sun <3

    E.... F....

Love Midnight sun, just wish they had used the other version whit the alternative ending.

    E.... F....

@Aslak K uoooot?!!! I didnt know there was an alternative version....is it on youtube?

  70. C.... t....

    The best album ever !!

  71. l.... ....

After the third song, the album becomes a real bomb. Clean prelude to an even better pop trash. It's amazing how they were good.

    l.... ....

The band had a fallout while creating the album, and seemingly put their best in front.

  72. T.... J....

..you're amazing Antarctica Rhodes..thank you for all the Duran posts :)

  73. O.... ....

    Rarely listen to this album

  75. J.... I....

I love just about everything DD---this album blew me away and it's fantastic

  76. J.... D....

For a lot of people my age, "Wedding Album" and it's big hit demonstrated Duran Duran was still making stuff happen. I overlooked it. Instead, Medazzaland was my "in" back to Duran Duran.. It had its ups and downs, but fantastic sounds, really creative feelings and atmospheres, and some good songs. I was like "oh, these guys know what they're doing. They're great."

  77. G.... J....

This was only released in the US iirc ?

    G.... J....

    +gildan US and Japan only

    G.... J....

    And the UK actually

  78. a.... ....

This is the most alternative album of Duran Duran , it was an exercise on experimentation during a time the new millennium approached , also was the right time for them because they could afford an album like this without expecting commercial success . It was a victory because turned out a gem and a unique record. U2 did POP Depeche Mode made ULTRA Madonna did Ray of Ligth . It was the time for this experimentation . 1997 was a bit like 1968 and 1977

    a.... ....

I've got to be honest - I LOVE PG, and saw them in concert and they were on form. I think the album is catchy, coherent and a real push in the right direction. I know a lot of DD fans didnt like 'Last Night in The City' but I find it really catchy and think it wouldve been a true hit back in the day.  I think the team up with Ronson is a real benefit to keeping the Duran brand alive! Let's hope they never go back to Timbaland and Timberlake! ;)

Also, is it true Warren got kicked out for having a 'roid rage attack on Simon and Nick??

    a.... ....

@Colin Gudgeon Of course I respect Your opinion but i think you missed my point at all. As a die hard fan I never thought of DD as a nostalgia band. Nick and Co. are always willing and risking but I feel that sometimes their mojo just lacks badly. At the end of the day all that matters is good songs and this unique feel of experiencing sometnig magical while listening to it. In my opinion AYNIN definetly has it and PG has it not. And believe me - it's not about wanting them to redo Rio all the time. I'm just not happy for them tryin' to be up to date so hard (not for the first time) instead just being themselves and exploring it. But  as I said I will love them forever despite their "deadly" need for musical experiments LOL

    a.... ....

    I loved this album

    a.... ....

Much like Big Thing at the turn of the decade. Except I like Big Thing more though.

    a.... ....

    👍🏼

  79. G.... ....

Saw them on tour in Montreal at this time. "Electric Barbarella" rocked live.

  80. J.... L....

The voice for Medazzland was Nick Rhodes

    J.... L....

+Justine Lalmond thanks for the Information - didn`t know about that.

    J.... L....

Yeah, Nick gets first billing, but you gotta give Simon his credit which is taken for granted. Additionally, Warren Cuccurullo is an amazingly unsung contributor.

  81. I.... C....

I was 16 when this album came out... I loved the hell out of it.

  82. J.... G....

I would describe this album Duran Duran on acid. Defo.

  83. J.... G....

I havent made up my mind yet. Requires further listening.

    J.... G....

You have to listen to DD albums 2-3 times then they grow on you .

  84. J.... G....

Michael you....A perfect vehicle for Simon's voice..which excels. Can't say the same about the melody. Just above average. Or quite above average. It depends on the listener.

  85. J.... G....

What am i saying? Buried in the sand.

  86. J.... G....

Buring on the sound. Nothing special. Nothing new.

    J.... G....

@JUSTALONDON GIRL opinions, equally invalid for all of us

    J.... G....

Equally invalid for all of us? What r u saying exactly? My opinions are my opinions only. Plenty disagree im sure. That dont make them invalid.....

    J.... G....

    Yes they do :-p

    J.... G....

@Drobium77  Whatever Drobrium...Im not one of these ppl that love everything that has a DD tag on it...they are brilliant...but they also have their fair share of turkeys... :P

    J.... G....

Oh, i agree, I could never stand "I take the Dice" and I hate the entire RCM' album, I never, never listen to it! So, at least we can agree on one bit.

  87. J.... G....

Simon's voice  coincides with the song changing from left field to middle of the road. Not good...Not good at all....

  88. J.... G....

Be my Icon. Fab 'till the singing started. Sorry Simon.

  89. J.... G....

Silvia halo. Full marks for sound experimentation, but it's a NO.

  90. J.... G....

Out of my mind. Instant recognisable. Instantly likeble but as the potential to tire.

    J.... G....

@JUSTALONDON GIRL I must admit All songs have a potential to tire

  91. J.... G....

Electric Barbarella. Not good enough to be a single. But it was. A mistake in my eyes. There are better songs. Who do you think u are has an unusua sound/melody l,,,ive decided it's thumbs up.

    J.... G....

If I remember right was Out of my mind released whit the saint movie in Europe and Electric Barbarella was only released in US and Japan. They may released Eletric Barbarella in the UK only.

  92. J.... G....

Simon's stile of singing is just not right for that particular song. Dont u guys agree?

    J.... G....

    +JUSTALONDON GIRL ...which one?

  93. J.... G....

Dont like Simon's vocals on Big Bang generation. It's just wrong.

    J.... G....

    @JUSTALONDON GIRL
Don't listen to it then ;)

    J.... G....

+Neuro Mancer (NM) But i had to! Listen i mean. Dont get me wrong..i am and always will be a DD fan! :P

    J.... G....

Hehehe :) What do you reckon to their new album?

    J.... G....

You know what? It may not be a masterpiece but i like it :). You?

  94. J.... G....

    Know what i mean?

  95. J.... G....

And when i say Duran i mean Nick and Simon. Not really the same thing. In my eyes at least.

  96. J.... G....

Really LISTENING to this album for the first time. Seriously. I wanna listen to it with an open mind....and judge it for its merits forgetting it is Duran.

    J.... G....

@JUSTALONDON GIRL ~~ Maybe I'm just extremely nostalgic for it, since I listened to this album near constantly while I was still in like... 9th grade, 16 and still in boy scouts. Brings back memories.

  97. P.... A....

"Out of my mind" is so durannie, so elegant. The pearl of this album

    P.... A....

I couldn't agree more! There's definitely something very elegant about it - it almost reminds me of Arcadia!

    P.... A....

    Yeah, great song👍👍👍

  98. c.... ....

This is a very underrated album not having the more general success of their other albums. Don't let this fool you as this is up their with their best .

  99. T.... G....

    my gosh hahaha
