Dubliners, The - Working Man Lyrics
It's a working man I am and I've been down underground
And I swear to God if I ever see the sun
Over any length of time, I can hold it in my mind
I never again will go down underground
And he swears there will never be another one
In the dark recess of the mine, where you age before your time
And the coal dust lies heavy on your lungs
It's a working man I am and I've been down underground
And I swear to God if I ever see the sun
Over any length of time, I can hold it in my mind
I never again will go down underground
At the age of sixty-four, he'll greet you at the door
In the dark recess of the mine, he can take you back in time
Tell you of the hardships that were there
It's a working man I am and I've been down underground
And I swear to God if I ever see the sun
Over any length of time, I can hold it in my mind
I never again will go down underground
It's a working man I am and I've been down underground
And I swear to God if I ever see the sun
Over any length of time, I can hold it in my mind
I never again will go down underground
It's a working man I am and I've been down underground
And I swear to God if I ever see the sun
Over any length of time, I can hold it in my mind
I never again will go down underground.

The Movietone Newsreel that is accompanying this powerful and moving song by The Dubliners, is from the Easington Colliery pit disaster, County Durham on the 29th May 1951. Eighty-Three Killed, including Two from the rescue team.

Been underground to make a living, paid 9 bux an hour back in mid 90s as a HDEM.
Furthest down was to a max 7400 feet, but my working level was 6800. I would not want to be trapped down there.
God bless all who gave their lives, fought, and continue to make our lives safer down there.

Until all wage earners understand that stories like this will repeat until infinity unless we form one working people's union. Then there would be no divide and conquer by corporate monsters.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL COAL MINERS ,Great song from the Dubliners,
Hard life and risky. Have Coal Mines here in Virginia. There have been the disasters, but those guys just kept on. It was their livelyhood, really had no choice. The Company owned the twon and the stores, so what they paid the miners they got back when they bought the neccessities they needed.
Why would people give this song a thumbs down you are not human remember your grandfathers died to put your suirts on your Backs and food in your fucking moths...
