Dubliners, The - The Inniskillen Dragoons Lyrics
Fare thee well Enniskillen, fare thee well for a while
And all around the borders of Erin's green isle
And when the war is over we'll return in full bloom
And we'll all welcome home the Enniskillen Dragoons
A gentleman's daughter from Monaghan town
As she drove by the barracks this beautiful maid
Stood up in her coach to see Dragoons on parade
Fare thee well Enniskillen, fare thee well for a while
And all around the borders of Erin's green isle
And when the war is over we'll return in full bloom
And we'll all welcome home the Enniskillen Dragoons
They were all dressed out like gentlemen's sons
Their silver mounted pistols, she observed them full
Soon
Because she loved an Enniskillen Dragoon
Fare thee well Enniskillen, fare thee well for a while
And all around the borders of Erin's green isle
And when the war is over we'll return in full bloom
And we'll all welcome home the Enniskillen Dragoons
Flora dear Flora your pardon I crave
It's now and forever that I'll be your slave
Your parents have insulted both morn, night and noon
Because you would wed an Enniskillen Dragoon
Fare thee well Enniskillen, fare thee well for a while
And all around the borders of Erin's green isle
And when the war is over we'll return in full bloom
And we'll all welcome home the Enniskillen Dragoons
Willie dearest Willie don't heed what they say
For children their parents are bound to obey
But when the war is over they'll all change their tune
And you'll roll me in your arms by the light of the Moon
Fare thee well Enniskillen, fare thee well for a while
And all around the borders of Erin's green isle
And when the war is over we'll return in full bloom
And we'll all welcome home the Enniskillen Dragoons

Their fine shining sabres and their carbine guns
Their silver mounted pistols, she observed them full

abrham gebeyehu The regiments name is 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, it’s spelt with an I not an E. The finest regiment in the British Army.
When I was a youngster I actually though ciaran was the main singer of the dubliners , but not to worry , they were all brilliant
Their early recordings were amazing.

George Harrison was the Ciaran Bourke of The Beatles. ;)
I'll be back to listen to that song again. The sabers? Now that is an old song from the Argonauts I remember. God bless ya gents.
I* always adore listening to this track as well as Donegal Danny
Ciaran Bourke at his best...very underated
This song could be about those that fought in the first world war?
The Clancy Brothers version mentions campaigning in Spain, and this version states the men are dressed "like gentlemen's sons" with silver pistols, sabers and carbines, none of which were really used in WWI. It's more Napoleonic.
Though I'm sure it was sung then!
In fact The Enniskillings never fought in Spain during the Napoleanic Wars in some vesions of this song, they could not have they were fighting in The War of 1812 in Deleware and Maryland . in America..they did fight at Waterloo in June 1815 after returning from being defeated in The War of 1812 ...
Thank you both for the information on this.
John Cahalane BS, this was two regiments at the time the 5th Dragoons & 6th Inniskilling's. If you look at our battle honors we did fight at Waterloo and Peninsula (Spain)
God bless the inniskilling guards god bless the dubliners god bless the queen & fuck the pope x

It's probably about the peninsular war.
