Dubliners, The - Song For Ireland Lyrics

Walking all the day
near tall towers where falcons build their nests
Silver wings they fly,
They know the call for freedom in their breasts,
Saw Black Head against the sky
Where twisted rocks they run down to the sea
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sun sets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic Sea,
And I sang a song for Ireland

Drinking all the day,
In old pubs where fiddlers love to play,
Saw one touch the bow,
He played a reel that seamed so grand and gay,
I stood on dingle beach and cast,
In wild foam for Atlantic bass,
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic Sea,
And sang a song for Ireland

Talking all the day,
With true friends who try to make you stay,
Telling jokes and news,
Singing songs to while the time away,
Watched the galway salmon run,
Like silver dancing, darting in the sun,
living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic Sea,
And I sang a song for Ireland

Dreaming in the night,
I saw a land where no-one had to fight,
Waking in your dawn,
I saw you crying in the morning light,
sleeping where the falcons fly,
They twist and turn all in your air-blue sky,
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic sea,
And I sang a song for Ireland

Dubliners, The Song For Ireland Comments
  1. P.... L....

She needs a song badly nowadays, seeing that she is targeted,by globalists

  2. D.... M....

A number of years ago, I was hanging out with my then girlfriend who was babysitting her 3 year old nephew at her house. She just couldn't get him to fall asleep, as he was nervous about being away from home. She asked me if I knew any good calming songs, and I said I had just the thing. I can't hold a candle to Luke Kelly, but dang it if singing this song didn't lull him right to sleep. "Sleeping where the falcons fly..."

  3. J.... ....

We are a strange race, we love our own nationality, we will always fight for it (and we are good fighters!), but what makes us great is not 'race' or genetics, it is the love of our county and our connection to it, our society that marks even the loneliest person as 'one of our own' through song and effort and common decency.
As a small child, I barely remember being given buttered, white bread, dipped in sugar....(it was a treat from the days when even white bread was a luxury) and the woman asked me 'did I remember her?' and I honestly answered that I didn't..... she folded me to her chest and told me that she had held me in her arms when my mother was sick and I was two weeks old, that she could see already, my father and grandfather, and she didn't want to give me back, 'a chuisle mo chroi' (the beat of my heart), I remembered her then, I remembered her heartbeat and her love as all Irish people feel the beat of our heart and of our nation........
    we are a big family!

  30. D.... P....

Unforgetttable Dubliners and unforgetttable music that touch our hearts and our soul FOREVER. Hurray SONG FOR IRELAND. 😍😗😙😚💖💖💖👍☘🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

  31. T.... B....

Seriously, is there a single other occupation in Ired land other than musician? I have never heard on an Ired lander inventing a single thing, accomplishing a single thing that benefited mankind or anything else that they didn't use their mouths to accomplish. And those born in the US and only have Ired lander names doesn't count.

  34. f.... e....

Luke's haunting voice rips me apart every time

  35. J.... D....

The only irish voice more iconic was his fellow dubliner, ronnie drew. And he outlived Kelly over 20 years! Wish they were still making music.

    J.... D....

    Equally iconic.

  48. V.... R....

Ireland is sadly going into the pits of hell thanks to multiculturalism and the (((Kalergi Plan))) I'm genuinely worried for Ireland at this point and into the future. Like other European countries facing this onslaught of forced mass multiculturalism & cultural enrichment, the plot to deliberately, erase, undermine, the native populations, in our own lands.

  49. P.... A....

Black or white unbelievable singer and I'm English and proud

  50. J.... P....

  52. C.... ....

Why would so many people dislike this? I can't see the negative in this beautifully sung song, or anything that would bring someone to press that thumbs down.

  53. T.... R....

I’m part Irish and I’m proud of that side of me and uphold it highly. I do hope I can visit Ireland one day. It’s a dream of mine to see that beautiful country with my own eyes. The country of my ancestors

  58. R.... R....

Fight northmen. Fight for your ancestors and for your descendents. Fight for the right to love and cherish your language, your land and your soul. Here, in continental Europe, people seem to have given up all to the migrant hords and their "fantastic" multicultural society. Don´t lose your soul ´cause a nation is neither a nation nor a community without the true reason that keeps it together: we are who we are and no need to change it. We have our values and our history. We have gained this land after centuries of struggling against the elements and invaders. This is our land and we are nothing without it. Stand up, northmen! Stand up and fight!
