Drifters, The - Spanish Harlem Lyrics
There is a rose in Spanish Harlem
A red rose up in Spanish Harlem
It is the special one
It's never seen the sun
It only comes up when the moon is on the run
It's growing in the street
Right up through the concrete
But soft and sweet and dreamy
There is a rose in Spanish Harlem
A red rose up in Spanish Harlem
With eyes as black as coal
That touch down in my soul
And starts a fire there and then I lose control
I have to beg your pardon
And watch her as she grows
In my garden
I'm going to to pick that rose
And watch her as she grows
In my garden
(There is a rose in Spanish Harlem)
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
(There is a rose in Spanish Harlem)
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
(There is a rose in Spanish Harlem)
There is a rose in Spanish Harlem

Drifters, The Spanish Harlem Comments
Great son!!! I love it!!
This song takes me back when I was 7 and life was easier. Now I’m 29 and boy I need the memories back. Beautiful song!!!
The Drifters ❤️
37 moronic slobs voted thumbs down!
I don’t why but out of nowhere I started singing this song today so I looked the song up on YouTube and after listening to it a ton of memories that I thought I forgot just came back to me. Now I’m only 18 but I spent a lot of time with my grandparents and I can remember riding with my grandfather in his van while he played this song and me asking him to play it again and him laughing at me because I like his music. He passed away in 2009 and now songs like this remind me of him thanks for the good tunes granddaddy continue to Rest In Peace ✌🏾
The Drifters always remind me of hot summer nights.
LOVE THE STRINGS AND HORNS, SO VERY DIFFERENT. MAKES ME WANT TO GET HELLA TRASHED!!

Such a romantic song...
What a thoroughly beautiful song. 🌹🌹🌹🌹
I love this song
THEY WERE A GREAT GROUP!~I LIVED THROUGH THIS PERIOD OF GREAT GROUPS & SINGERS~THAT'S THE PERIOD YOU COULD HEAR EVERY WORD THEY WERE SINGING & THE SONGS HAD A MEANING~NOT THE CRAP YOU HEAR TODAY!
This is a song by Ben E. ing after he left the Drifters because the manager refused to give hi m the fair share of salary and name. Kind of an insult to Ben.
Came here because of Cypress Hill’s Rap Insane In The Membrane
I, am 65 years old! Love this song , remind me my happy childhood ❤️🌈💃🏾
I thought i would hear the rare unheard of DRIFTERS prequel to the Ben E King hit but nope, just another abberant Utube uploader who doesn't know his shit
Beautiful

UBISOFT. 0:22 It's Never Seen The SUN
Xylophone's
Technically NOT the Drifters. They never recorded this song as far as I know. King did it after he left the group as a solo artist. Released in 1960.
Half Moon Bay , Jamaica. Every evening at the bar overlooking the sunset, a couple of wizened old musicians strum and softly sing the classics. Always Spanish Harlem just as the sun disappears beneath the horizon.
I really love this song.🍇🌼💮🌹🌺🌻🌲🌵🍂🍃
I love you Flor. I always will.
Amen ! Pat God Is Good.
I Love this Song so much. Thanks
reminds me of your mom 😏
Down the n your soul says it all

Great music
awesome, one of the greatest. Ben E. King could flat sing.
I think the drifters did the best version...always loved this song!
This isn't the drifters. It's Ben E. King solo, right before he released Stand By Me.
great!! song and if you assholez don't like it I'll have to beg your pardon🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎼

Glenn Hewitt ,
love this song , always reminds me of a week in aruba on the beach
One of my favorite songs . Kings baritone, with the strings and horns. The music is on piont, well arranged.
The violin's, sax, the glockinspeal (what ever it is) and harmony are so beautiful! Simply luv it!
I do believe that's xylophone, but yes it is genius.
Classy song; classy group. Why today is trashy crap so popular? Have the barbarians won ?
Every time we went to Coney that song was playing on the board walk. My Mother loved this song. Thanks for posting it :-)
One of my favourite songs of all time
Quality.
The Drifters did a version with Clyde McFatter lead singer prior to this solo Ben E King version
Not this song they didn't. McPhatter didn't record with the Drifters after late 1954. This song wasn't even written then. I do believe Clyde covered this on one of his early 60s solo albums, after Benny had had his solo (non-Drifters) hit with it.
here we go again..7prick heads hatin..
the BEST VERZION
This song was released in 1960, by Ben E King after he left the Drifters.
No that version is different and dumb. Sounds like he's trying to sing it in church. Not meant as a diss to you you're cool I just hate that version.
DHT&E you are incorrect. The Drifters had nothing to do with this. This is straight up Ben E. King.
The voice is Ben E. King, yes. No doubt. But where is Ben E. King in the picture. Because I don't see Ben E. King in that picture at all. He was the lead singer of that song -- and that lead singer is not Ben E. King. Yet, thank you for the post!
Tony Learner That is Clyde McFadder singing lead
Not the Drifters. This is Ben E. King post-Drifters.
Jerry Leiber and Phil Spector composers.
Brilliant song.
RevbIGhIG That is Clyde MCFADDER singing the driters an ben e king recorded the song
So sweet. The best Version ever!
maybe Phil Spector?
+paul m it was
whoever did the string/sax arrangement was pure genius (Mort Shuman)?
another touch of the wrecking crew - check them out
Dont forget many people have written good songs but they never become great unless you have the greatest people/voices singing them example : national anthem = just bland ain and cheap vanilla brand until Whitney Houston sung it , get my point ? You see you people want to discredit the singer by praising the freakin writer , who the hell praises the writer before the artist ? Thats like praising the grocery store before mentioning the baker right in front of you - white people sheeesh , case closed im done !!
It's always a chicken and the egg scenario, when they all work together we get something beautiful. written by Phil Spektor & Jerry Leiber music recorded by the wrecking crew a bunch of Jazz studio un-named recording artists who give the song that hit feel (as they did with many songs) then performed by the wonderfull Drifters.
Not surprising, as the co writer was Phil Spector, who was apprenticed to Leiber & Stoller at the time and learned the craft of record production from those masters. Without doubt Mike Stoller created the distinctive marimba riff that introduces and percolates throughout the song, but I believe the excellent orchestral arrangement was the work of the vastly underrated Stan Applebaum
But they were 3,000 miles away from where this was recorded
LINDA MÚSICA SEM DUVIDA, INTERESSANTE LEMBRA DE MINHA INFÂNCIA ,DOIS PERSONAGENS MINHA DOCE MÃE E EU , SOMENTE NÓS DOIS !
It is sounds B king singing
it takes me back when I first realized I was in love with my "Turtle".
love their music & they got class.
Thank you, Hannah, for posting this song. One of my favorites. I will be 72 this month. This picture was taken a couple of years ago. God has been good to me.
The Drifters were always high on my list of go-to songs. Remember: Under the Boardwalk as well as so many others by the Drifters. Thank you, Drifters. You gave me a lot of joy.
+Pat Melton you r looking good !!!
+Pat Melton you r looking good !!!
Hey Pat, I,m 72 also, I,ve seen the Drifters a few times, I,ve loved them forever. Keep on Driftin Pat.xx
just read your comment - I agree, an amazing song - hope you're still having fun! bless you :-)
Rest in peace Ben E. King . I love your voice.
Video is mistitled but I think it has the best sound of all the versions on YouTube.
My mom who recently passed away loved this song.
+Benjamin Gibson .....Ben, I'm very sorry for your loss.
Eddie, I am so sorry about you losing your mother. Every once in awhile, I stutter and people then make fun of me. Once I was wearing a Lady Diana T-shirt in a grocery store and a young girl liked it. The very next day I brought he a brand new one just like mine. About a day later when I saw her, I began to stutter and she made fun of me by copying me.
James F. Harrington Good thing there are so many good people that make up for jerks like her.
BRAVO! LUV AND KISSES FROM ALFREDS BABY GIRL LUQUILLO BEACH RIO PIEDRAS P.R.
Great group. I saw them LIVE in VEGAS AT tne SAHARA. RIP Benny King and Clyde McPhatter thanx for such GREAT MUSIC
Great song. One problem with the title of this video - The Drifters never recorded this. Ben E King did this on his own after leaving the Drifters.
exactly!
John Capulli.......Well, she was close, give 'er a break !! Two ex-Drifters recorded this gem: Ben E. King and CLYDE McPHATTER !! That counts for something towards "The Drifters" !! lol
I always thought it was the Drifter's?
Tommy Goodwin........No, The Drifters never recorded "Spanish Harlem". John Capulli is quite correct. And, not to be outdone, Clyde McPhatter also recorded his "cover" version of "Spanish Harlem", several years after Ben E. King's monster hit, but his version remains virtually unknown to this day. The curious fact is that both men were great lead singers for The Drifters--Clyde was the first; and both went on to have excellent solo careers after leaving the group. 8-30-19
romantic magic
Ah the good ol day of Real music by those who could actually sing!
RIP love the music!!
Thank you for the beautiful music. Rest in peace.
Good night Benny.
A SAD SAD DAY, RIP BENEE
His songs bring back a softer time in life.
