Dream Theater - The Root Of All Evil Lyrics
[Music: Dream Theater, Lyrics: Mike Portnoy]
[VI. Ready]
Proud enough for you to call me arrogant
Angry enough for me to go and hurt a man
Cruel enough for me to feel no grief
Never could have just a part of it
I always need more to get by
Getting right down to the heart of it
The root of all evil has been running my whole life
Dirty enough for me to lust
Leaving nothing left to trust
Lazy enough to sleep all day
And let my life just waste away
Selfish enough to make you wait for me
Driven blindly by our sins
Misled so easily
Entirely ready to leave it behind
I'm begging to break free
Take all of me
The desires that keep burning deep inside
Cast them all away
And help to give me strength to face another day
I am ready
Help me be what I can be
[VII. Remove]
Self-centered fear has got a hold of me
Clutching my throat
Self righteous anger running all through me
Ready to explode
Procrastination paralyzing me
Wanting me dead
These obsessions that keep haunting me
Won't leave my head
Help to do for me what I can't do myself
Take this fear and pain
I can't break out of this prison all alone
Help me break these chains
Humility now my only hope
Won't you take all of me
Heal this dying soul
I can feel my body breaking
I can feel my body breaking
I'm ready to let it all go
I can feel my body shaking
Right down to the foundation
The root of it all
Take all of me
The desires that keep burning deep inside
Cast them all away
And help to give me strength to face another day
I am ready
Help me be what I can be
I am ready
Come to me
Take me away
[Dedicated to Bill W. and all of his friends]

Dream Theater The Root Of All Evil Comments
Money, it's the root of all evil today...
I like the transition between albums
The riff sounds like velvet revolver
This sounds great
Hello Thomasfrank93
The intro is one of the best things I have heard in a while
Everytime i revisit the octavarium album, i'm convinced it's one of dt's masterpiece. Starting from the 1st song to the epicness of the last one, octavarium which is a compoditional and melodic monster.
Oh that drum beat during the chorus is my brown note.
This is why i love DT. The songs phase is unexpected, sometimes rock, ballad, soft tone
I played that on a radio channel years ago

TO SLEEP!!!!!!!
That keyboard solo hit me like a truck
This sounds like a crush 40 song.
this is the only good song on the album
Hell Yeah!!
X-RIGHTEOUS-X
Love this chorus. So melodic
Damn, what a waste. The lead guitar is superb, the rhythm and bass are both totally great, the keys and perc are also good BUT the pussy vocal is just destroying it when it's present, making it hard to listen to. Without it, the track would've been close to perfect (intro, solos). Really tough to bear, really mixed reception.
So the vocals are bad because he sounds like a "pussy." Please come back with real criticisms.
This album has really grown on me with time. I really didn't like it when it first came out, thinking it reminded me too much of Muse. But this album has aged really well, a definite masterpiece
I like Muse influences tho, never enough is a Muse inspired song xDDD.
I love the piano at the end playing the main Octavarium theme
Okay, who let Dave Mustaine help with the composition and recording!??
this could be the worst sounding prog record of all time
My very first Dream Theater experience. Still love it.
4:11 at 1.25x speed
Another insane Dream Theater chorus
6:10-6:25 is so well written, that solo feels perfect, so satisfying the way it coincides with the main riff
The end made by god
Roadrunner, on the evil song.
7:33 That Octavarium theme always gives me goosebumps, specially when you've heard the song, such an epic way to integrate it!
When you eat Mexican Food:
I can feel my body breaking
I can feel my body breaking
I'm ready to let it all go !
I can feel my stomach shaking
Right down to my intestines

Se los agradecería muchísimo 🤘✌️✨✨
Waking up with this song makes me feel so great! Thank you Dream Theater!
Holy shit I've forgotten how good this song is
Isn't this where we came in?
Best part of the song 0:00 - 8:08
What kind of fools thumb down this album? I don’t get it?...
I totally loved dream theater after to listening this song \m/
The guitar riffs get me so erect.
holy fuck!!!!!!!!!!!! i swear, i expected heavyness at the beginning, but not like that... that hit me like a truck, holy shit!
My all time favorite :D
Too bad this song is 4/4
I like how a lot of their songs are connected, even throughout different albums, with references and motifs.
5:58-6:12 <3!!
Octavarium ending
5:18 this song is too boring. let's do this now
This comment section is full of people talking about the begining of this song 1:00
Chorus in this song is one of their best! Such inspiration and positivity it gives away!1:26-part is so badass yet so simple
Ohh ... Octavarium - album of my childhood , pretty awesome . Actually , my loved song is a composition "Octavarium"(24 minutes) . Combining of different styles is so much cool
Octavrium drives me to my reality.
Holy the very beginning sounds like Pink Floyd’s Welcome to the Machine on Wish You Were Here!
Intro Pink Floyd Welcome to the machine
5:27 probably the best pat
so many easter eggs in here. Lyrics from The Glass Prison, the melody from This Dying Soul and more.
I just realized, if you start the Octavarium album from the start and finish the first and last song line up perfectly, making the album infinite
You're saying that the last song is the same length as the entirety of the rest of the album?
yeah thats the same with crimson by edge of sanity
It all starts with the end of scenes from a memory-beginning of six degrees and so on.
And this is one of the songs of mike portnoys 12 step suite.
Like!!!!!
the body breaking part was from this dying soul on the train of thought album...strange
Check out the Twelve-step suite and you'll understand.
Metallica pretends to be Rush....prepare your senses.
this and some acid. no mercy !!!
Such a raw kick n snare pattern..........its the shizzle
the first 3 minutes are simply great. End of......
3:40 to 4:00 gives me goosebumps
Yes it's so badass haha\m/
The BEST riff of all time!!!
Epic Is The Word For This. saw them couple years ago at the Greek theater LA so ridiculously talented.... Dweezle zappa and Steve Vai both guests all did a solo with petrucci half way thru the show..... It was amazazing
welcome to the machine..
I do love this twelve step suite that they did from Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence To Black Clouds & Silver Linings especially for someone who battled his own set of issues with drugs and alcohol it defiantly touches home Dream Theater I thank you for this so much

This song is beautiful. good job!!!!!
This and Panic Attack are easily the best songs on this album!
Emm ... man , what's about main 24 min theme . It much more amazing and interesting
@LevplayChannel A little too long for me
@Craig Hauser newbies...
@Craig Hauser skip to 12 min. that until the end is extremely good
So sick
whats the one that goes crucefiiiied blahblahfiiiiieed so this PLAAAANET BLAAAH BLAAHH BLAAAH
shit...
That piano outro is one of Rudess' s most beautiful things he's done.
The intro makes me think of half-life: 2 somehow... empty streets... moments before the rebels attack the combines in city 17...
I've always loved the homage to Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine!!!!"
ultrasonic

03:06 and 06:30 "the desires f***ing burning deep inside"
That little bit of "Medicate Me" at the end that never reaches the final note...this is why this band amazes me.
I haven't listened to Dream Theater in forever. This gives me so much energy.
just came from in the name of god
Slimy the unpopular gamer I came in the name of god ;D
Might be time to become a Dream Theater fan
Just a name passing by Your English makes sense, so you're doing fine. Yeah, Metropolis Pt. 1 made me want to listen to the rest of DT's music. Sometimes music is just so good you want to hear so much more.
My favorite band. No one has given me as much appreciation for music ever
@VHDT10 I feel the same. They changed my life as a musician and drummer forever.
I've been a fan since the mid-2000s, and was always astounded by MP... huge fan. I'm also a huge fan of MM - the dude is an animal, able to cover MP and write his own material that is easily on par with earlier DT music. Not to mention, MM seems like a really nice guy too. Having to 'choose' between MP and MM is like having to choose between a bowl of ice cream or a steak dinner: can't enjoy them at the same time, but you can certainly love them individually for how awesome each one is.
@Riku Kega Very well said Riku. They're truly gifted, creative, and just nice people in general. Really a band to look up to :D
This is always the first song I listen to everyday hah
is this RATM?
Hi Patrick
how is this similliar to RATM
This intro always reminds me of Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine
Good point!
