Dream Theater - Astonishing Lyrics

[Arhys' Spirit:]
Brother, can you hear me?
His life is in your hands
He is just a child and still too young to understand
Show him love and courage
That freedom knows no bounds
Tell him he could never let me down

[Xander:]
Father
I will make you proud
Rest in peace

[Gabriel:]
I always had the answer
All this time I held the key
And now that I see
The reason to believe
I can be the man who I am meant to be

[Faythe:]
Because of you, I live again
Now I can be a voice for change
And help to build a world that's fair and true
So they can live the life they never knew

[Nafaryus:]
On the road to revolution
There are lessons to be learned
All the things you thought that mattered
Are lost at every turn
When the light of my existence
Was slipping through my hands
Pride and ignorance receded
To reveal a humbled man

[Arabelle:]
My prince, my son
You got lost along the way
In light of this new burden that you face
You are forgiven on this day

[Ensemble:]
People, can you hear us?
Peace has been restored
The silence has been broken
Music reigns for evermore
We sing a song of freedom
Together we are bound
People, we shall never hold you down
We will build our world on common ground
And we'll live once more
Eternally
In harmony
Our lives will be
Astonishing
Again

    Pink Floyd school 😎👍

  23. D.... M....

What percentage of this album is silence?

  24. A.... D....

I listened to the whole album in just two parts finally. Cool, cool, cool. I wonder what it could have been if different vocalists sang each character part, like in Ayreon's The human equation.

  25. A.... D....

It's true, there are here and there great "snippets" of music the should be expanded to be enjoyed at their fullest.

  26. A.... D....

I would like to be capable of creating such an album.

  27. J.... P....

I wish they would stop releasing there album openers as singles though. To.me. hearing the opening of a dreamtheater album for the first time is almost my favorite part of a new album. I've been. Tru fan for over 20 years and a new dt album is still better than xmas for me. So I dont like to hear the 1st song before the album is open and n my cd player

  28. J.... P....

Evangeline name is the first melody we hear on the album

  29. N.... S....

    I'm from indonesia, i like it's song

  30. J.... m....

I like this album the first time it came out- it was called 2112

  31. w.... a....

This album is a ode to Ego and pretentious as f**k... This album is a meme material🤣🤣🤣

  32. L.... B....

I'm confused as to why so many people hate this album. I mean, it's a masterpiece, and IMO, one of the best albums of all time.
I'm gonna be honest, I can't see anything wrong with this album.

  33. m.... s....

this shit is so fucking lame lmao

    m.... s....

i remember when I was an angsty and resentful teenager who only listens to emo and pop punk.

    m.... s....

@Mustache Cashstash you are oh so mature and enlightened for listening to guys in leather pants in their 50s bang on about demons and shit

  34. F.... S....

I want an animation of this album, NOW

  35. R.... B....

  36. C.... A....

This album will be more appreciated in the future. I'ts a truly masterpiece

    C.... A....

    In a Dystopian future??

    C.... A....

ABSOLUTELY AGREEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These guys are peerless!! Fantastic musicianship!

    C.... A....

Comparing this to a broadway play on amazon is one of the dumbest things I've seen from a so called Progressive Metal fan. Do the the people saying this stuff understand what the progressive movement Dream Theater is a part of is all about?

  37. S.... G....

Two albums in and they now are a real band.

  42. m.... ....

could listen to our new world all day....love that song....

  43. U.... S....

They should study Vanden Plas and learn from them. There is such thing as a rock opera, and then there is such a thing as a metal album made out of the best pieces of that rock opera. Those are different things. Those should be kept different.

  44. .... ....

    the worst

    .... ....

    fuck you

  45. F.... F....

  46. p.... d....

they should make a movie for this album with song as the themesong

  47. A.... W....

    style rock n rolls

  48. S.... T....

I have strange feelings about this album. I like that its songs are a lot more catchy than Dream Theater songs usually are - I think musically it's one of their most creative albums - and I like the dystopic atmosphere it creates, but I find the story and some lyrics a bit cheesy. For example, the name Lord Nafaryus sounds like a villain from a Cartoon Network show.

    S.... T....

Of course, the Dark Master from Systematic Chaos was so much deeper! Or not?

    S.... T....

@U.V. S. At least it was just one song. The first part doesn't count since it didn't include the Dark Master.

  49. R.... B....

    1:59:13 - sounds like U2, where the streets ...

  50. m.... ....

While not DT at their best, The Astonishing is far from a bad album, and I think it's actually their most interesting and creative album in years, at least since Black Clouds and Silver Linings. It reminds me of Ayreon; larger than life, 'cheesy' (tastefully so), telling an elaborate story over its run time. Does it drag at times? Like most double LPs, yes it does, but there are some real great songs throughout, and is in general a real showcase for James LaBrie's talent.

It was incredible seeing them perform this album live!

    m.... ....

andrewehish they really are! Labrie may be the most underrated vocalist in prog rock/metal.

  51. M.... B....

53:48.. I hope a lot of fans hearing Distance over Time and think their new album is great and The Astonishing sucks will rediscover the Astonishing. Listen to disk 1 over and over again. It's one of their best albums ever.. maybe even better than SFAM or IAW. You have to give it some time. Just like 20 years ago, listening 1 album for months in stead of skipping songs every 20 seconds on Spotify.

    M.... B....

Yeah, it probably is not all that bad.

  52. N.... G....

Astonishing disc one, is the best cd with mangini on drums, emotive, sad, heavy. Simply beautifull. At least at me, this disc likes me so much. Have many magic and results to me entertaining.
I have the pleasure to see the show of this album...wauuu fucking class of coordination, timing, perfection. Love it.

  53. L.... ....

This album is incredible!! Everyone album they make is amazing!!
Boo hoo to the trolls and fair weathered fans. Go suck your thumb and listen to the backstreet boys.

    L.... ....

    Hey the Backstreetboys are awesome

    L.... ....

@Ariel Domínguez you are ignorant really go fuck yourself please

  54. R.... M....

this is a work of the gods of the world we will go to, or where they came from

  55. P.... T....

This is a wonderful listening experience - when in the right frame of mind. Great upload, i probably will buy this in the near future. I find all the negative comparisons with older albums quite, ahem - 'Astonishing' !

  56. C.... ....

Listening to Distance/TIme made me come back and listen to this properly and I already like it better

    C.... ....

Haha same here! I really love it! Was into Haken recently so did not listen to it. It is amazing actually!

    C.... ....

    Nice!!!!!

    C.... ....

Interesting. Listening to DOT has taken me further away from this one. Not saying it is bad. However, being this put on the table, DOT is the perfect example you don't need 30+ songs nor dragging the record for longer than 2 hours in order to make an amazing album. I'm so glad they're back on track with their newest release.

  57. A.... D....

    Great album!

    A.... D....

Yes it is! It's so refreshing to hear from a real fan.

  58. D.... T....

It's an absolutely amazing album, what pisses me off so much is the fact that if a band do something that they wouldn't normally do then people hate.
Instead of pinpointing the flaws of this album enjoy the fucking record.
It was an absolutely huge and risky undertaking by the band to step down from writing intricate music and just tell an absolutely beautiful story through music.

And all those who say that Mike Mangini does not play with feel, take a drumstick and stick it up your own ass. The only reason he sounds a bit robotic is not because of his playing, it's because of the different sonic direction that the band is taking.

For me it's an absolutely amazing album and one of the best concept albums of all time, definitely not THE best, that title goes to Metropolis Part 2

    D.... T....

Dream T talk about being messed up

    D.... T....

You're right. But i dont care for metropolis... I like this faze of the band so much more

    D.... T....

    Well said.

  59. a.... ....

    pedazo de disco

  60. A.... ....

this one and metropolis 2 in composer sense are the best!!!

  61. F.... G....

This album is a work of art!!!
Took me only 2 listens to really appreciate its efforts...it almost has a "Disney movie soundtrack on steroids" kinda vibe here and there...as others have stated here the music supports the story...without it the music on its own stands tall with honor as expected from DT. The lyrics and story line just emphasize and enhance the music that much more. It's a fantastic album and even better if ever u have the chance to listen to it all the way through as it waa meant to be.....like a Broadway musical with a grand finale...cheers to you Dream Theater!! Job well done

  62. D.... G....

In my opinion, it is really a great album. Very inspired and melodic, more progressive than progressive-metal. I saw the tour without listening to the album, and it was a great surprise !

  63. V.... V....

Comparatively a very calm Album by DT. Not complaining at all.

  64. j.... B....

  65. R.... M....

    1:20:20

  66. L.... R....

Who the fuck hates this?, its beautiful and unique.

  67. D.... S....

This album is a borefest not sure what the hell they were thinking.

    D.... S....

They we're thinking about you when they wrote it. Just so you could post a lame comment. It's all for you troll! Anyone who doesn't like this album has no ear for music. Or just a fair weathered fan troll.

    D.... S....

@Luke A correct troll at that.

    D.... S....

They were trying to change things up from their cookie-cutter prog metal. Turns out their only suited to play cookie-cutter prog metal. I don't dislike this band, but they could be so much more if they were virtuoso musicians who were also virtuoso composers.

  68. M.... ....

This album suits "The Wall" style better than "Scenes From Memory"

  69. H.... L....

    Soo Nice music 😎

  70. m.... h....

It got so many hit but they instantly shift to crap after that, if it way more focused and not too long it would be a better album.

  71. O.... D....

Listening to the whole album is so much different from listening to its songs one by one

    O.... D....

I've never done that before lol. Its usually a 2 hr 2 blunt journey for me and my girl.

  72. l.... ....

Do not ... I repeat, do not listen to the lyrics without a barf bag handy.

    l.... ....

What's the story in the TL;DR version? I know it's cringe, I just want to hear it from someone who hates it, at least I'll get a laugh out of it. :)

  73. H.... T....

    a masterpiece of the masterpieces.

  74. R.... C....

I can't believe some of the negative comments, thank god they had the guts to put out a mellow Lp.. Lets remember they're getting on in years so let's respect this deeply thought out album.. Bravo!!! It's awesome!!!

    R.... C....

DT: Hold my Beer Ronnie, here's Distance over Time

    That album brought me back!

  75. G.... M....

    Great álbum.......beautiful music

  76. m.... m....

Jordan Rudess made dream theater boring

  77. k.... b....

There is a lot of people that cannot just understand this album, it so pitty, please open your hears and listen to it without prejudices, Dream Theater is always
reinventing theirselves. If you do not like that then go hear others.

    k.... b....

Or open the booklet and read along with the album and visualize the places and characters they created to just go to that place. It's just amazing

  78. C.... R....

This is a medieval opera rock. quite beautiful and relaxing. Im afraid they tried something like Metropolis part. 2 but...

maybe this is the worst dt album but dt doesnt have bad albums!

  79. x.... T....

    The Awesomishing

  80. L.... ....

can someone mark all awesomepic passages like 8:21, 16:55, 1:21:08, 1:26:22

  81. M.... D....

I have every dt album, but after I bought this album I was so disappointed with it. Just could not even bring myself to listen to it ever again. In fact, I lent it out and didn't ask for it back. Hope their new album is better than this crap.

    M.... D....

Naww didums... did it not djent enough for you? :'-(

  82. C.... H....

Obviously this is beautiful music but it took me a while to get the whole story and this is definetely an album that needs multiple listenings plus reading the booklet to understand that some songs have several characters interacting. James deserves a lot of credit for this one and they should produce it as a movie or mini series!

  83. T.... R....

I am using their music as a therapy! What does it mean if someone listens it whole in a go in early morning, before going to sleep, travelling alone...

    T.... R....

    Just doing exactly the same

  84. T.... ....

At 4:10 Sounds familar to section of Rush Hemispheres:Book 2. .."I have memory and awareness, but I have no shape or form...." But without the words.

    T.... ....

It also has many places that remind me of Signals era Rush, which is certainly good. DT is a great cover band! That is, until they attempt Black Hole Sun.

  85. P.... Z....

    fucking great!

  86. E.... P....

I would love to see this performed as a live musical/opera with a full cast.

  87. R.... R....

  88. H.... B....

    ASS TON O'SHITTING

  89. D.... R....

Loads of people didnt like this album because they dont understand what a concept album is. Story is great, music is great, personally my only complaint is the amount of vocals haha soooo much LaBrie xD could use more instrumental but W/E

  90. C.... A....

The ending to The Astonishing's story is so bad. It ends like a childrens movie.
