Dream Theater - A Savior In The Square Lyrics

[Nafaryus:]
We have come to hear him sing
To see this gift your savior brings

[Narrator:]
A crowd has grown
And all are mesmerized
But silence quickly falls
As Lord Nafaryus arrives

[Nafaryus:]
Please don't stop on my account
Show us what we've heard so much about

[Arhys:]
In peace
We gather here today

[Daryus:]
Don't make him ask again
Do as my father says

[Gabriel:]
Brother, worry not today
I will share my music
And they will soon be on their way
They only know the Noise Machines
So I'll treat them all to sonic ecstasy

Never in my dreams could I deserve
To ever see a vision quite like her
Then, unexpectedly
I'm taken by surprise
An angel just appeared before my eyes

Dream Theater A Savior In The Square Comments
  1. y.... v....

The melody intro is so fascinating. .Petrucci ,while respected as a guitar shredder, always has the ability to write a soulful ,beautiful phrase .

  2. C.... ....

Why does this album get so much hate? The melodies are so gorgeous right the way through

  3. B.... G....

Fuck all music cept DT. I love them with all my heart... The astonishing is soooooo good 😁😂

  4. A.... M....

    2:05 bark at the moon

  5. G.... M....

3:21 So that's how a boner sounds in music

  6. J.... R....

2:54, is so good, one of the best pieces of music I’ve heard!

  7. G.... F....

James LaBrie’s voice for Nafaryus and his son on this song is probably my favorite vocal tone by him thus far.

  8. R.... D....

Its interesting, if you go to the full album page on Youtube, everyone is criticizing this album, but on almost every individual song people only give praise.

    R.... D....

    haters gonna hate
Only who can feel the true vibe of the music
    will understand this

    R.... D....

Yeah! People who don't like it are probably religiously devoted metal heads that only like heavy stuff like ToT. I don't care what DT puts out, whether it be jazz or funk, as long as its good.

    R.... D....

That's my thought too, heavy or not is not the point , it's all about the joy of music . cheers

    R.... D....

    Right on!

  9. B.... T....

I can listen to that intro for hours...

  10. J.... J....

kinda sounds like the intro to The Count Of Tuscany....

  11. K.... U....

    John Myung @ 2:59

2:53 is an absolute dream (no pun intended)

  15. A.... ....

Probably the most annoying song on this album simply for the reason of its ending. I really hate the fact that songs are split anyway, but to split them in the middle of a verse? That's a piss take. I thought Dance of Eternity was bad, but this one takes the cake. Still, regardless of this immense flaw, I love this song more than any other on the album.

  16. M.... ....

Idk what it is about the gabriel parts that just give me the chills but this small little piece 2:52 just sounds awesome

  17. S.... E....

Stupid ads interrupting my listen to the whole album

  18. R.... ....

Why do people not like this album?
    1:36 is fucking G O D L I K E

  19. V.... B....

best part of album for me : 2:53- 3:05

  20. h.... ....

my god when the fanfare starts and the tempo changes..i just have this urge to conquer EVERYTHING!!!

  21. a.... J....

    é como musica erudita !!!!!

  22. D.... F....

    dream theatre is amazing

  23. S.... ....

Man.. did you hear that at 3:33? the transition so beautiful!

  24. J.... V....

    0:29 I came.......

    J.... V....

    Agreed.

    J.... V....

The whole intro is better then sex i swear

  25. B.... B....

    omg!.. good good...

  26. D.... ....

Love this one!  Reminds me of a really old Genesis album, but that's a good thing!

  27. B.... ....

    labries best vocals since awake

  28. d.... i....

    OmG! That intro is magnificent!

  29. C.... H....

it's just becoming spring here in the northern part of the US. so I like to drive around on these beautiful early afternoons with the intro solo here playing loudly from my car as I drive through the town with my windows down. it's impossible to not have your spirits lifted by it.

  30. b.... ....

i love how the song follows the trumpets

  31. R.... F....

The begging of the song sounds a lot like Good Bye Blue Sky. Knowing that DT likes a lot Pink Floyd I wouldn't doubt it was inspired by it. It is equally beautiful.

    R.... F....

Rafael Ferreira I don’t hear it. Def Leppard’s Hysteria sounds more like Goodbye Blue Sky

  32. M.... H....

intro guitar theme comes back in Our New World :)

    M.... H....

Miklós Hubay Yup, normal for concept albums. Different version of same melodies everywhere

  33. M.... D....

I love this story. Probably one of the best concept albums of all time.

  34. R.... S....

    Masterpiece

  35. L.... T....

    3:16

So I'll treat them all to sonic ecstasy... BUM. BUM BUM. budududududuududud BUM. BUM BUM BUM.

    L.... T....

    shieldbearer 😂😂😂😂👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

  36. C.... ....

I love the intro it sounds close to My Chemical Romance's Disenchanted. I love it when DT makes their ballads

  37. F.... V....

    amazing \m/

  38. J.... C....

    thank you

  39. K.... L....

Every time I listen to this album I get past this song's intro and then have to skip to Our New world because I can't wait for it... then I come back for the rest

    K.... L....

+Kevin Linger haha just listening to A Savior in the Square, thought the exactly the same thing, came here to see the comments about Savior and here is your comment :)

  40. M.... ....

    3:22 YAY DARK SOULS!

  41. S.... c....

So in love with this album

    S.... c....

+Stacey cross Same here. I've only started my 2nd day listening to it (Bought it yesterday) and I'm prepared for a few spins of the discs before I get comfortable with it, but already I'm loving the beautiful melodies, epic scope, orchestral sounds and just overall commitment the band has made to making this a real listener's journey.

    S.... c....

+Daniel Verberne glad you are enjoying it!

    S.... c....

+Stacey cross Amazing album from start to finish, true journey! So many amazing songs and twists and turns

  42. A.... V....

OMG when the starting guitar tune reappears in "Our New World"! The feels!

  43. D.... K....

What a track! Melodies on point and that strange feeling of hearing an old friend's voice telling me everything's gonna be alright. Well, wait... this band's an old pal indeed. Well done, guys!

  44. .... ....

    НИШТЯК МУЗОН

  45. N.... B....

The intro sounds like a Marco Sfogli song, no wonder Petrucci is his biggest inspiration ;)

  46. E.... B....

Love James singing "Brother worry not today" at 2:53

  47. Y.... J....

Listen to this for 90 seconds then put on our new world........Understand?!

  48. S.... B....

enough of portnoy vs. mangini, enjoy the music

    S.... B....

    +Sadie Brown ba...dum... tssss....

    S.... B....

They both sound the same to me.

  49. C.... R....

What a great album! I cannot wait to have the Limited Edition Box Set!!!

  50. E.... ....

This song actually showcases some of the best songwriting and portrayals of the story on the entire album. It is very diverse with many different parts, but each part flows very seamlessly into the next in a very sensical manner. It portrays the parts of the story that is meant for the listener to be imagining with grace and accuracy.

At 2:53 you can feel the tension rising as Gabriel prepares to play, and reassures Arhys of his choice. At 3:21 it's as if shock overcomes the crowd as Gabriel puts himself at risk. Then at 3:34 (which has one of the most beautiful piano lines on the album), time seemingly slows to a halt as Gabriel's eyes fall on Faythe, and he is overcome by her beauty before letting the crowd hear his music.

The entire album has a similar cinematic feel to this, it could not have been executed better.

  51. A.... ....

    Totally gona learn this intro!

  52. A.... S....

Why are some elements so compressed?? Song is amazing but the overall production just ruins it for me :/

  53. L.... S....

    "She is... astonishing."

  54. B.... G....

1:49 Can we just have this over and over and over and over again?

  55. u.... ....

petrucci needs a new keyboarder and maybe new vocalist
oh and some composition inspiration too -

    u.... ....

    +umkalzum Try being recruited lol

  56. B.... ....

that intro like a Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd

    B.... ....

+Bloodrone Gosh, this is exactly what I thought when I heard it! The beginning is so evidently Pink Floyd "Goodbye Blue Sky". I looked through the comments to check if someone also noticed, but I thought there would be more people. DT is known for such 'inspirations', indeed.

    B.... ....

Bloodrone I agree, this entire album, and live show, definitely draws some inspiration from Pink Floyd. My first ever exposure to any Dream Theater, never heard any songs until this, was after getting free tickets to their last tour, a full album performance, and it completely changed me. Made me happy to see an extremely talented band going a great direction with good influences.

  57. J.... S....

4:10 that "appear" sounds weird to me

  58. J.... S....

One of my fav of this fantastic album

  59. M.... P....

1:48 is just epic and right in the face! I love James' singing on this album, simply amazing!

    M.... P....

+Marco Philipp Probably the best I've heard James done on an album in a while.

  60. S.... P....

Read about the characters on the website, read along the story("more about the tracks" on the website), the lyrics and listen to this. PLEASE. Its an experience.

    S.... P....

It really is like nothing else. At first i didnt like it too much compared to my love for the other albums. Black Clouds, SFAM, DTOE. So i gave it a shot, listened to it over and over. And because i put the effort in to listen to the songs, understand the songs, the story. It paid off and it is now one of my favorite works of art period. Too bad other people wont put in the time and get the fucking incredible return

  61. B.... N....

this is one of the songs i have enjoyed most from this album.... and the best part is that i haven't even gone through it all..... oh man! i can't wait to grasp the whole story and music altogether.... i'm an avid DT fan since i was 12.... back 17 long years ago... i know and love all of their music catalog!! just look at my thumbnail haha.... i really became lost with their music and lost some passion for them after systematic chaos... they kinda went downhill... not to mention when Portnoy left... i really have lots of hope that this album will bring me to tears when i hear it live .... regardless i love DT and forever will... i will be into their music for as long as i live... these guys changed my way of embracing music... i'm ready to be astonished once again!!

  62. H.... P....

i love this album... i love it.......... petrucci hmmm perfecto..

  63. A.... W....

That intro is made in heaven!

    A.... W....

+Anthony Wright That melody is also the backbone of Our New World.

  64. P.... P....

i cry for a 1000000 tears at the end part

  65. A.... K....

    Aaah! 2:53 is just breathtaking..

  66. T.... B....

No signs of slowing, I love it.

  67. N.... W....

from the interview with Mike Mangini, Jordan and JP has written this album sketch on software (not jamming again?). That's probably I think why the music is so machine.

And I think JP like a sound drums like the machine. Remember he is a producer, all the mix and sound is directed by JP.

But for me, this album is epic, the best one of Dream Theater album. I feel the SDOIT disc 2 haha. Jordan more explore his stuff haha so far I love this album so much

  68. D.... V....

Christ almighty with all the people bitching about -the drums- everything imaginable. DT "fans" must be the most entitled people in the world.

    D.... V....

+McMull500 You dont know a damn thing about drums, do you?

    D.... V....

@kevin willems You don't think Mangini's drumming is stale compared to Portnoy? Maybe I'm just bias but nothing I've heard from Mangini over the last 3 albums has really stood out to me.

    D.... V....

@Tetsu Shatarii That's simply because Portanoy is a god,.But we can't get him back. Portanoy left, because, he says it felt like a job. And he didn't make music for that. Mangini is trying to fill shoes made for a giant. And while the two before this didn't really do anything for me, they weren't the worst on the drum angle. And this album has Mangini finally starting to fill those shoes, especially live. I saw Dream Theater in April, and he brought the thunder. And comparing him to Lars, is painful. Lars is nothing, but Mangini actually has a tight grove to it, and is getting more and more technical.

    D.... V....

well stop complaining when he gets good...

    D.... V....

he actually wanted in after 5 months of being out.

  69. M.... J....

mixing this too bad, guitar and bass sound low, snare sound high, cymbals sound low, keyboard and orchestra sound very high.
the previous album also the same thing
the snare seems the guitar pro 5

    M.... J....

Funnily enough, other people have said the orchestra/brass/strings are too low on this album. People can't really get their opinions straight.

    M.... J....

+Milton Junior The keyboard /orchestra...........There it too much of it. Jordan took over, and is overshadowing the guitarist. The guitar, limelight of any band, should not be over shadowed by any other member. Jordan's ego took over on this. Annoying really.

  70. M.... K....

The intro is soooo beautiful <3

  71. G.... B....

I am so happy to finally hear the album! But I feel something is lacking in the drums... Something doesn't sound right...

  72. M.... R....

    No Portnoy - no music!

    M.... R....

    No Portnoy - no humour

    M.... R....

+John Appleseed No Portnoy- no juvenile, ego driven drama.

    M.... R....

+SebaChannel I disagree. I don't think they have made a great album since Black Clouds.

    M.... R....

@Mike B true but at least Portnoy didn't take it too seriously when he was in the band and they played occasional versions of songs such as "pull me unnndderrr, I've got to fart", Canadian Rap and "15 minutes to psycho..." etc

    M.... R....

@pwoods100 I think that SDOIT was the last album with a distinct identity's between Myung and Petrucci. Since TOT, Myung is mainly a standard bass player because there is no longer room for distinction (accordingly to Petrucci)

  73. s.... ....

intro austin powers daddy wasnt there?

  74. e.... ....

Instead of spamming everyone so hard, why not post one video with all the tracks on?

    e.... ....

+Tetsu Shatarii well in this context bitching means complaining... the fact that he felt a need to make a "suggestion"... shows a level of dissatisfaction with how things were done... expressing dissatisfaction is the definition of complaining. . so yes he was in fact complaining.. or " bitching" as I prefer to call it :)

    e.... ....

@Cap Z Fine, I was bitching. Why did that offend you so much?

    e.... ....

Well, because people who need to complain about anything particulary irk me. Especially when they are complaining that a favor that was done for them wasn't done the "right" way. They didn't have to upload it at all, it just shows the point of view you are coming from. Me, Me, Me. I don't know, like I said, just irks me.

    e.... ....

+Cap Z haha, you're making a lot of assumptions there pal.

Also, you hate people complaining so you complain about it. Ironic, no?

    e.... ....

Sure, you win. Absolutely 100 percent correct.

  75. D.... L....

    They need more Portnoy :v

    D.... L....

don't be sorry dude, Mangini is the best :) and no a egodiva at all :)

    D.... L....

+Daniel Lopez XDDD la wea, chilenos en todos lados...awante lml

    D.... L....

Cómo dice Portnoy " No hay mejores músicos que otros, solo favoritos" ahí la dejó.

    D.... L....

    Viuda de Portnoy  :)

    D.... L....

+Niko Peñailillo estamos en todas partes wn

  76. T.... S....

Because these songs are on YouTube I get to listen to the new album at work... My life is complete

    T.... S....

+Tetsu Shatarii I feel the exact same way.

    T.... S....

+Tetsu Shatarii I think all artists should do this, unless I'm a die hard fan of the band I rarely just buy an album on faith that it will be good. Now that I have grown to like this album I will be buy it to play in the car. I'm sure YouTube is the way forward to make money in the music business.

    T.... S....

+Cynics Of The Galaxy I'd say merchandise is the way to go. If it was just YouTube, there would still be an incentive to buy the album cause unless you have unlimited data, you wouldn't want to waste your data in the car streaming videos. With Spotify premium you can just download the songs and there's no need to buy a physical copy, but the artist hardly gets anything per hit on Spotify. Sure some people, you for example, will go out and buy it but I'm honestly not sure there are enough of those people to make that significant of a profit. Touring doesn't make a hell of a lot either. Notice though, how much this album was marketed. All these characters, the complex plot, imagine all the shirts and collectibles you can shit out from this album. I think that's gonna have to be the cash cow for a lot of bands moving forward. It might be annoying to the fans who only care about the music, but they do what they have to.

    T.... S....

But you still cannot play Skyrim at work.

  77. R.... O....

oh thanks dream theater for yet another master piece.

  78. V.... ....

This moment when you see a complete Album in your Abo-Box <3

  79. N.... R....

portnoy has more raw & natural sounding, while mangini is more like drum machine like sounds??! can you hear the difference btwn this two?

    N.... R....

@Neil Ryan Banot Ur moms calling, I have to go. Quit bugging me.hahahah

    N.... R....

+Mike B haha!!! gay post spotted... hahaha

    N.... R....

+Neil Ryan Banot I know, I read all ur posts. Back to the music.............weird that more than 1/2 the album is Ballad/keyboard filled and they didn't use any of it to represent the album when they released two songs. They went with the familiar, heavier songs. The old bait and Switch. This really should have been called Jordan and friends.

    N.... R....

+Mike B They paid for a full orchestra, you think they'd use triggers?

  80. M.... P....

Are they actually leaving the kick drum like that? Is that a drum machine?

    M.... P....

+Aunt Jemima Probably just Mangini using triggers.

    M.... P....

+Aunt Jemima Is a bug, i will report on steam !

    M.... P....

no that's one of the greatest drummers on the planet my friend... Mike Mangini... Dream Theatre Forever!

  81. N.... N....

It kinda sounds like Wither but without saying Wither and the solo that makes jesus come down from heaven to praise john petrucci for his fingers

  82. i.... ....

    RIP sub box

    i.... ....

+iamezza It was an upload bomb... but I love it :D

    i.... ....

thanks DT. for all the goodies on youtube!

  83. D.... M....

Si poteva mai avere un risveglio migliore di questo?? Thank you guys!!! <3

  84. B.... ....

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME, HOT DAMN
