Drake, Nick - Road Lyrics
You can say the sun is shining if you really want to
I can see the moon and it seems so clear
You can take the road that takes you to the stars now
I can take a road that'll see me through
I can take a road that'll see me through.
You can take a road that takes you to the stars now
I can take a road that'll see me through
I can take a road that'll see me through
I can take a road that'll see me through.

Drake, Nick Road Comments
Good Guy! Short and intense life, left us amazing things.
Before his time, we caught up with nick drake, now we understand what he tried to say to us.
As a guitar player im in awe of his style and accuracy and timing, Then to sing on top of it like that with such deep feeling is pure genius. Too bad he was depressed and had no idea he was at that level. And too bad medical people had been so ignorant and careless to have given him antidepressants known to cause heart issues.
Or perhaps he just died of a broken heart thinking he was failing at at all. As someone who has related to Nicks story and melancholia It's not necessarily a breaking heart because of someone else, its that some people are born with them already breaking.
Nick Drake... I love his music deeply and am thankful to you for this posting. I wish I could play like him. People, please check-out my garage compilation. Samambaia (Finger Style Stoner Folk)

Sorry for the shameless self-promotion. Just excited about "Road" and it makes me want to share.
--------------->>> also , wonderful pictures of him !!!
Many , many THANKS to YOU .
One of Saturns many sons
These photos.. especially the beggining.. I have never seen.. That is amazing that you could find. It's as if Nick is back to life.
Thank you so much.
Love https://youtu.be/k9zlt8qH-WU
The polyrhythms of the guitar lick with the harmony of the vocal melody...pure genius
If you played that polyrhythm lick in the middle on a 7 string with some effects pedals it would straight up sound like Math Rock. lol the syncopation is real
J03Y13 100%
If my life could be a song, I think it would be this one
Ive always loves Nick and have all his music. So tragic he died so young
i haven't heard this for years and it's seventy times better than i recalled it being. Precision
My heart is throbbing
From 1968-1972 music was at its creative apex...unfortunately several shattering artists got lost in the shuffle...Nick Drake, Sixto Rodriguez, Dion's folk albums like Suite For Late Summer...I'm just ecstatic to discover them now...
Third Watch , Bobby
I think if I had to pick one song that sums up the essence of nick drake and an underlying message that's in every recorded song he ever wrote I'd pick road
I need to learn this song! I haven't practiced on my guitar for almost 2 years. I need to practice this song very badly. 💗💗💗
His guitar playing is so melodic and interesting, and so precise you could set your watch to it. He'll always be in a class by himself. Thanks for posting.
A Very great guitarist and Poet!!!
The greatest musician ever. The way he played guitar and sang and his unique style. I can listen to his songs in 2019 and they sound fresh and modern like they were recorded in 2019!
this stuff is eternal
You can hear his nails, in the syncopated rhythm. Amazing x
Wow never these pics before...I'd say his best . handsome chappy..bless you Nick
He was as beautiful as his music.
I used too watch a tv drama
One of the characters
A NYFD Paramedic
Helps a mentor from his youth
With assisted suicide
It was a sad beautiful scene
Too love someone so much
This was the song during the scene
Love'll cripple a motherfucker
Quality just shines through.
Credo resti un cantautore geniale le sue canzoni toccano nel profondo e come lui nessun altro resta inimitabile tanti provano nonostante l'impegno ma non arrivano
I used to have a cd of this album with an error and this song as "Radio" .The way N.D.plays the guitar, especially the right hand, is absolutely unique, the legion of imitators that come after him don't come even close
This wonderful way he has to pinch the strings of his guitar .... It's magic!
I don't believe for a second that this song is played with a pick. Poster below needs to study harder.
its not played with a pick, that guys a dope
Nick deserves to be in his own patheon of songwriters/singers.
GOTCHA. "Whaaat?" You know.
My favorite ND song - even though it's so short. Short but sweet.
Anybody who says Nick used a pick to play this, is wrong. Joe Boyd and John Wood both said he fingerpicked it. See Ramon Felipe Wagner on here cover it, he fingerpicks and it sounds just like the original.
This is my favourite, its hard to choose tho.......
Happy Birthday Nick
How is that just one guy on one guitar !!!!
sammydonkey bebek it's amazing, isn't it? Exploring unconventional guitar timings and how to work them can give you some good stuff
The only other, is Richard thompson, first time I saw him, I was looking for the other two guys!!
Try Leo Kottke!
Alistair Ewen Elliott Smith as well
1 dislike name and shame the individual
Another one for me to transcribe! This one sounds like Cello Song...
an artist plain and not so simple
Lee Fowler well said
His songs have a similar feel to those of The Incredible String Band . Nick Drake has a famous actress sister , Gabrielle Drake .
One of my favorite Nick Drake Songs. I always thought it was more about partings in our life. Its more to me than just a song about two people parting ways. Its much more deeper than that. That's why I will always love his music. :-) thanks for the upload.
The guitar has an African sound to it
its those syncopated rhythms
Yes, Mali.....
Ooga booga
It is resplendent in every respect, and a timeless masterpiece.
You can say the sun is shining if you really want to
I can see the moon and it seems so clear
You can take the road that takes you to the stars now
I can take a road that'll see me through
Sola Sistim I wish he had taken that road
@JJ Gates I think he did.
Cursed are those dullards whom no cannon stuns.
A lot of people think he is fingerpicking, but he is using a pick, It comes from the thrap of the strings, Anyone who has played acoustic would know this .....
Adam Marin, you want proof listen to pink moon there Johnny guitar .......
Or Place to be
he may be using finger picks but he is certainly not using a single pick held between his thumb and forefinger.
that "thwap" is from downtuning. He's likely tuned as low as C.
@GRAVE BLASPHEMATOR The tuning on this song is EADEBE with the capo on the 3rd fret. So the song is actually in some form of the key of G. The only string that is tuned down is the 3rd string from a G to an E. And he is definitely finger picking but I would guess he has a thumb pick on.
This blows me away EVERYTIME!!
Right?!
I have played finger style guitar for over a decade intensely, and I still can't come close to his clarity and perfect punctuation. This song so excellently shows his natural, effortless guitar ability. His phrasing is the most incredible part to me; that every individual note has such clarity, and he's able to accent certain notes here and there to create a countermelody to what he's singing that is so incredibly beautiful AND so rhythmically intricate. He was a truly amazing musician, guitarist, and songwriter.
I just wish this song was a bit longer! One of, if not my favorite acoustic riffs I've ever heard.
try dead strings, that's the secret ;)
yes...it's Amazing...I literally was enraptured by his way of playing...the words...the sound of his voice….I realized going to Tanworth that he is far Beyond being a musician...He is a powerful Healing Spirit…***
That's because you're not a genius mate;)
Well put, my friend. I remember learning this one with scraps of penciled tabs in front of me. It's one of my favorite musical experiences.
how it was miked its the key
Profoundly beautiful from beginning to end.
Yes, it is.
Pink Moon may be the most beautiful album i've ever heard in my life.
wonderful !!!!!!!!!
brilliant
Those photographs of NIck Drake, are not real. Photoshop?
+Jeanie Newt What makes you think that they aren't real???
They look fake. I do wish they were real to tell you the truth. Maybe, I'm incorrect. *shrugs*
this song is very profound within life. I have traveled far and wide with Nick Drake on my headphones ... many a time been sat waiting for a longtail boat to take me to another tropical island destination with his songs playing in my mind, watching the world go by .. watching the sunset ... the jungle ... fireflies ... the stars? And this song is his greatest.
In life ... there are two roads .... one that will see you through, on the normal safe, traditional path of convention, molded within modern day society and its materialistic empty fathomless values? The easy path some may say?
The other path, to the stars, holds adventure .... a myriad of colours and experiences, an awe inspiring journey of what true life can really offer should you have the courage to walk out there and take it. A path of chance and shining sparkling glory .... though that path is far harder in so many ways, only those that tread that path can understand and appreciate it?
So listen ... and ask yourselves which path in life you want to take ....
I choose the path to the stars ... gladly .... and take the harder but more rewarding, self developing footsteps.
This is one of the travellers most entwining, profound, lyrical blend of all time ... and illustrates the difference between the lonely traveller and the satisfied people to follow the sheep of conventional modern lifestyle.
I agree with you completely, and you put it in great perspective. Cheers!
Leigh Aston so crazy how different someone's interpretation can be from someone else's
Definitely...
Nick Drake is literally in the back of my mind 24/7 its pretty bizarre actually
An interesting interpretation
Is this the closest Nick Drake got to growing a beard?
+Ethan Gill In photographs. And he looks a little like Kurt Cobain. Do you think so?
+LadyRoss Ever so slightly haha
@Ethan Gill I thought so when I saw that close up to his face. Is not just the beard, the look into his eyes reminds me Cobain's last photos.
He looks more like Shaun white
@Sity now that, i can agree with
I love the picture of him smiling or laughing, I can't tell.
@Dan Finnegan Amazingly handsome and talented genius. A masculine "Mona Lisa".
Pure genius! <3
So simple, yet so "right" & complete. Once again I'm left in awe of Nick Drake's guitar technique - it so often sounds like there's 2 or 3 people playing.
All thanks to open chords and different tunings. Very creative chords.
Thats him
This is my heart's song. Sometimes I replay it 5 or 6 times in a row. It's just so beautiful.
Nick was a Genius...almost 40 years after his death he's still relevant, which is more than i can say for some who still play today...
So simple and so genius...
What a great way to introduce new pics! It's funny, I'd been immersing myself in Nick's music (via YouTube videos, funnily enough) for weeks before it dawned on me how good-looking he was. :)
