Drake, Nick - Northern Sky Lyrics

I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you're here
Brighten my northern sky

I've been a long time that I'm waiting
Been a long time that I'm blown
I've been a long time that I've wandered
Through the people I have known
Oh, if you would and you could
Straighten my new mind's eye

Would you love me for my money
Would you love me for my head
Would you love me through the winter
Would you love me ‘til I'm dead
Oh, if you would and you could
Come blow your horn on high

I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you're here

Brighten my northern sky

Drake, Nick Northern Sky Comments
  1. Kale Somplson

This song always reminds me of my mom.. nick drake is a hidden gem and a truly under appreciated artist/songwriter/guitarist. maybe not on this particular song, but the way he plays with abstract tuning is brilliant

  2. dax2172

    Thank you

  3. dcfanchris

Anyone else think Dave Matthews would knock this outta the park?

  4. Kingbopit

Anyone else here after watching A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood?

Nick had what idiot doctors call psychosis. The decent doctors call it,
now, Distress. He was a total gentleman and gentle to a tee. It's time
we woke up to the fact that mental illness does not exist in the manner
doctors and media think of it. Start Nick revolution and speak out FOR
distressed people, because it just might be someone as special as Nick
Drake. Nick Drake's songs are about God mostly. You can say he is a
genius or a crackpot. I know where I stand on this.

  10. patricia russell

this reminds me of the northern camino the route where you fall out of the ocean, looking up at trees and looking at the water and knowing that you were part of mother Earth...

  11. Shooting from the Hip

    I wish you rainbows mate.

  16. Hayley Grundy

A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood brought me here.

  17. Syefee - The Lyrical Poets -

This is close to being musical perfection.

  18. pykkervots

My friend Dav was one of the few thousand people in the UK buying Nicks albums when they came out. The rest of us liked and appreciated Nick's music but didn't go overboard on it. It was only in the late 70's that I began to get it. But hey! I got there!

  19. Moon Cat

It’s sad that this world got too much for him.

  20. Daffy Taffy

I came across thius song when I saw "Fever Pitch" but I pkayed it for my dad in the hospital. He loves it.

  21. Lee Kosmin

Today my northern skies are bright for the first time. Perfect to hear this beautiful song, that's ageless and timeless, if that makes sense.

  24. Talitha Snow

    Excellent

  25. James Lanigan

To be so gifted weighed heavily on this beautiful man.I could write a song every day for 60 years and it could never be as good as this.If there is a heaven then Nick will be the headliner every Saturday night.

  26. Mars

I remember this song from the movie, Serendipity. I thought it was so beautiful. Nice to see it appearing in another wonderful movie.

  27. Northern Light

Timeless, this could have been written and recorded yesterday - the definition of true art, this will last forever. Thanks Nick Drake, it’s a pity the Industry pushed Cat Stevens instead of you.

    Vick Mackey

I totally agree with you. Cat Stevens was easier for the masses to swallow. Nick has substance and for the masses that is just a little to much for them to digest. Such a shame.

  28. Davor Strenja

    What a genious
    ..thank you Nick !

  29. Joshua Jarman

If you would, and you could, straighten my new minds eye.

  35. Georgie Thumbs

They used this as the opening song for the new movie about Mr. Rogers "A beautiful day in the neighborhood" starring Tom Hanks

  36. Allison Franks

Nick was such a unique, ethereal talent. There’s just no one else like him.

    147breaks

U heard Alexi murdoch? I actually prefer him. Amazing

    Allison Franks

147breaks yes, Alexi has very similar resonance and vocals. His guitar playing is a bit stripped down & tedious compared to Nick, but the overall aesthetic is similar. I’d love to hear him cover a Nick Drake song. Orange Sky quite reminds me of Pink Moon.

  37. Molly Hatchet

Thumbs down?????....What planet are you lot on???....Hope you have to spend enternity listening to chuffing Ed Sheeran.

So beautiful ...the music and the aurora borealis .....🥰🥰

  64. Sprucy ****

The most romantic thing in the world is when we trekked through the snow above the Arctic Circle to the little shack, and we were together looking @ the Aurora Borealis, and not a word passed between us, but we could read each other's minds,, we built a fire together...too bad my dreams are better than real life. lol ;)

I love ND's music. I discovered his music about 10 yrs ago and have been a huge fan ever since. Heath Ledger loved his music too. He was going to make a movie of ND"s life but decided against it. Nick was a very private person and Heath wanted to respect Nick and his family.

Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique artists such as Nick Drake and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British artists and bands? Thank you from Sicily. And love, admiration and adoration.

  80. J VH

Nick Drake was so far ahead of his time. This sounds nothing like anything from 1970 where Queen, the Bee-Gee's, Olivia Newton John, and Elvis were the styles. I would have never heard of him either if it wasn't for a rare VW ad (milky way).

  81. Conrad Dean

Buying all nick drakes albums on vinyl was easily the best way to say goodbye to £70.

    Chris Tyler

    Mate, it's worth it. !!!!!

    Conrad Dean

You are totally right sir. Worth every penny!
