Beautiful

When I was at Oxford I met nick drake and heard him play once. His sound recordist asked me to help out at a concert he was arranging. Only 40 people attended. It was recorded on tape to tape. What become of that recording I don't know. Perhaps one day it will surface and become nicks live album !

Well, it may have been used in that movie but it's hardly 'from' it. The movie was released in 2001 (2002 in the USA). 'Fly' was released in 1971 on the L.P. (album) 'Bryter Layter'. Nick Drake died in 1974.

+Johnny Trash This wasn't an individual who limped through life. He decided to take a brave step with complete clarity. Sure, he was troubled by life, Who isn't who lives in full awareness of its extremities.

His voice radiated peace thus his soul was. What troubled him enabled him to share that beauty. His spirit was too big for such a small domain but how he lit up for us to enjoy what he found sacred.

when i was young, younger than the sun,  lost amidst the trees in front of a red frozen sunset, i had a vision i thought i could never share or translate. Nick Drake's music is the only thing that comes close to that. And, in fact, VERY close. And of course this has happened to many other souls ;-). True Solitude = Universality.Thanks for sharing this.

Just discovered nick drake and learned about his short life. What amazing music. I feel like I've been looking for this music all my life, up until now. Cannot belive he died a year before I was born.

@d2mode2 there is a video on here of a compilation of his best and it is called essential with a sail boat tethered in a small storm. look it up, listen to it repeatedly and it will remind you of now by next summer.

When I first heard this song in Royal Tenenbaums, for some reason I imagined it being performed by a band of monks. After getting into Nick and realizing this song was one of his, I'm starting to think that spirituality speaking I might not have been wrong.

the voice is so soothing yet powerful.the guitar is flawless and pitch perfect on every note.the words are painful yet full of hope.nick drake was one of a handfull of modern musical troubadors.an idea,a guitar,a pen and they create a masterpiece.we are all enlightened forever by his work.

This song makes me feel like I am in the past. In a forest, heavily shaded, slighty sad and jaded, but it is beautiful. I am near the ocean where the sun reflects bright, but I cannot reach the water.

It breaks my heart that he wasn't appreciated in his lifetime, but that is the lot of many great artists.

A documentary about him made the point that because his music wasn't linked to the time he made it, it has become timeless. There's some truth in that.

This is great,but singing the Nicks praises on You tube is a band called Unorfadox doing a song called Mr Drake .Its so catchy and picked up could be a hit,more important it would spread his music further than ever . Mr Drake says how it was and does it well !

This is so beautiful and brings tears to my eyes as I think of Nick and our tragic loss of him so young. Today, June 19th, was his birthday.
