Drake, Nick - Black Mountain Blues Lyrics

Old black mountain
Tried to spit in your face
Old black mountain
Tried to spit in your face
Baby's grubbing whiskey
Oh, she's practicing

Old black mountain
Mean as they can be
Old black mountain
Mean as they can be
They use gunpowder
Just to sweeten the tea

Had a girl in black mountain
Sweetest girl in town
Had a girl in black mountain
Sweetest girl in town
But she met a sweet black man
And then she threw me down

Well, old black mountain
Can't keep man in jail
Old black mountain
Can't keep man in jail
Sure we call him guilty
Judge will cry and bail

Come back to black mountain
Me, my razor and my gun
Come back to black mountain
Me and my razor, my gun
Gonna cut her if she stands there
And shoot her if she runs

Drake, Nick Black Mountain Blues Comments
  1. R.... G....

The guitar sounds a lot like John Renbourn actually. I have never heard this before!

  2. K.... S....

THIS IS NICK DRAKE ..home recording, released by his estate on the album FAMILY TREE

  3. c.... ....

I think he was influenced by Dave van ronk’s version. The vocals at least have something very van ronky. I think it’s the way he hums the n’s and m’s

  4. M.... B....

I see people are doubting this is Nick. It is. People are saying he sings the blues funny. Listen to some real delta blues men. He sounds a lot like one of them.

  5. M.... D....

All Five fingers, or just four?

  6. T.... K....

    L.... A....

  9. A.... B....

    Thanks Nick.

  10. t.... ....

I love the way he takes the risk. This is not his "beach" but he gives a really good effort.

  11. r.... ....

  12. j.... ....

@TheFordula is right. You got to know the blues to sing the blues, and for sure this po' boy knew the blues.

  13. j.... ....

THIS IS FRIED GOLD. Sorry for shouting, but Nick + the blues = happy Louisiana girl.

  14. R.... P....

@TheGlatisant Sorry to disappoint you, but this is definitely Nick Drake, unless his sister and the manager of his estate decided to try and pass off someone else as Nick Drake on the 'Family Tree' album...

By the way, Nick was very much influenced by blues as well as folk, and he's just singing in a more powerful way than usual.

  15. R.... P....

Nick's bluesy voice is deeper, but very similar to Al Wilson's (Canned Heat)

    R.... P....

    Totally agree, love them both

  16. M.... C....
